The Hi-Life Restaurant & Lounge on New York's Upper East Side serves a mix of burgers, steaks, sushi and comfort foods along with an extensive cocktail menu. Guests can step inside for brunch, dinner and late night and experience the nostalgia of neon signs. There are also plenty of TVs for those who want to watch the game.
Guests at the Hi-Life Restaurant & Lounge can choose from the daily deals or head straight to the appetizers for edamame, spicy Buffalo wings, pigs-in-a-blanket and many others. Burger selections include the bacon cheeseburger and the California burger. The Hi-Life Restaurant & Lounge also features a big plates and big bowls menu for those with hearty appetites.
Too bad it closed. The food was delicious and the wait staff wonderful!
Their summer special for $24.95 is good though lobster is small. Try to sit up front as the back is noisy with lots of kids.
Hi Life is ok, if you want to get your fill on greasy junk food this is the place. The service was fair although the waitress was very pleasant. The table was sticky and the food was so so. The burger was solid as was the quesadilla. However, the calamari was not crisp and the Idaho potato was tasteless even with bacon and cheese. If you have kids and you want a quick meal that's not particularly healthy once in awhile then you will do fine at Hi Life.
The table was fully ready when we got there. Service was prompt. Food was mediocre for price paid.
Went for summer lobster special. Restaurant was filled with kids, so it was a bit noisy. But the food was good, the service was good and the price was quite reasonable.
We had a group of seven for a Sunday brunch that we only planned on Saturday evening. We searched on OpenTable looking for a relatively highly rated restaurant on the Upper East Side that had moderate prices. There were not many openings for a group of 7 at 11 AM, but with a four star rating and two dollar sign cost, we figured we couldn't go wrong. Hi-Life restaurant was a lucky find. We were pleasantly surprised with both the choice available on the brunch menu and the modest prices. The food was plentiful, fresh and served hot. A first drink came with brunch for only $2.95 - so with brunch prices averaging around $12 or so depending on the choice, we felt we lucked into something special. We were also pleasantly surprised that we could hear one another speak, despite being 7 seated at one table. The atmosphere was fun and the service helpful but unobtrusive. Although a bit out of the way perhaps for many visiting the city, it is the place to go if you want to be assured of a table for Sunday brunch where you won't be rushed and can enjoy a classic brunch menu for a reasonable price.
I needed a last minute dinner reservation on a Saturday night for 8 people and saw that Hi Life was open, so I grabbed it - not knowing much about the restaurant. Overall, the food was overpriced, not great tasting, and the service was very bad. One friend ordered a salad (that was $16) and when it came, it literally just had lettuce and a few chick peas in it. The bowl came about half empty and was really the saddest looking salad I have ever seen. When we expressed our concerns to the staff - they just said "that is what the salad is". Never asked if there was something they could do or get for us or anything. I really am not one to complain about service and am really not a picky eater but the service and the quality of food was not OK.
Ive been eating at Hi-Life with my family for years. They have something for everyone, value is good. We took a break because the service suffered. I can see from the past two times they've got their act back.
Half-chicken, perfectly seasoned and cooked with crispy outside and juicy inside.
Creamed spinach is best anywhere. Shoestring fries are great. Cherry Blossom champagne cocktail is so fun. Cobb Salad is huge and delicious. Artichoke appetizer is very large and a nice change of pace. A good place to go with friends...but always attracts lots of children, so be prepared. Waitstaff professional and attentive.
They have cheaper drinks than most bars and restaurants in the area. The brunch is really good too!
This is a great place to hang out with your gal pals after work (which is what we were doing.) The Happy Hour deals are amazing and delicious. How can you beat $6 cosmos and half priced sushi? The atmosphere is fun with a kitschy 1930s meets cruiseship vibe. And our server was terrific keeping up with the comings and goings at our table.
Went with a medium size party of 6 for a birthday celebration. Pre-celebration bar was great, with good beer choices and a friendly bartender. Later was just as good. The sushi special was enjoyed by all and the other items were great.
Last minute decision and was great. Service was spectacular..waiter made the night great and specials were worth it will definitely make another trip here
Usually we frequent here on weekend brunch and Monday half price sushi. They have great selection of sushi and great drinks. But something was wrong on 11/9. Edamame was overcooked, sushi rice was stickier/grittier than it should be, like using old rice or once cooked-refrigerated batch. On top of it, frozen daiquiri was very diluted with not much flavor. I asked the server if the chef or management has changed but not sure. I hope they straighten their act, otherwise, we are not coming back!
The last few times I was at my favorite neighborhood place, I was a bit disappointed in the service. It's getting a bit sloppy. Also, I love the sushi and the other night it was not available because the chef was preparing a large order. Really?
There is something for everyone from sushi to pasta. When you are dining with people who all want something different, this is the place to go.
The white people were looking at us kind of funny but it didn't matter the food was good. I'd go again if I felt like it. The waitress cici was awesome. Kudos to her.
Good selection of starters, entrees, desserts and sushi. Big drinks menu and huge mahogany bar give the place a great vibe. Good quality and value. Warm atmosphere. Friendly service. Not gourmet or special occasion but a nice little neighborhood place for after work or brunch. We will be back.
The lamb chops—served with roasted vegetables and creamed spinach—are delicious. Great place to hang out with friends, or for a casual date night.
if you want a go to place, you found it. Service is excellent, fast and accomodating. This is the first place I was ever served a steaming hot baked potato. Congratulations! More upbeat than a diner, with a large selection of food to chose from. Specials nightly which are great.
This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. This time, we had 8 people, including 3 children and everything went really well. Our table was waiting for us and the food came out fast enough so the kids didn't get bored. Everybody got exactly what they wanted because the menu is so varied.
This was our first time at this restaurant. Although they have a varied menu, we might have ordered the wrong things. I had steak fajitas which I ordered medium rare. I told the server I prefer rare on the inside and he said they usually undercook but the steak is tender. I, therefore, ordered the medium rare. The steak was not tender and the meat was more medium than rare. There were about 5 small pieces of steak on the plate and the entire dish wasn't very pleasing. A Mexican restaurant would have done better with this dish and the serving of steak would have been more ample. I doubt we'd return to this place.
Lead me to the lobster! Great weekend offer to make you think you're on vacation . In the winter I have the salmon with ginger but June through August I'm in lobster land.
Nice combo of cocktails too!
Staff is always attentive even if you are dining solo. Range of food is great.... Salmon with ginger and the lobster special on xsummer weekends are my favorite things. Wine by the glass choice isn't great but they have great cocktails!
Pretty varied menu & reasonably priced. Mostly your traditional pub fare, but also a sushi menu and a few unique dishes. Great cocktail menu. Good daily deals on food & drinks.
Good food, nice service. Place too old fashion, needs an urgent reform!!!
Especially more quiet than most lunchtimes. Good salad and service
Neighborhood standby for modestly priced, well prepared meals. Ultra casual décor and service
The food, the service and the atmosphere are reliably wonderful. There is something on the menu to please everyone.
Great place to get American food for a good price. Came here with a group of 10 and service was pleasant and fast. I recieved my drinks and food very quickly. I would recommend to friends and family look for a comfortable place.
Just a reasonable place to go for brunch. Food was OK. Menu is standard. Service was good. Would go back for local basic eats.
Good happy hour deals. Basic food.
We were a large party (11 of us) and everyone enjoyed their meal - from sushi to meatloaf to steak sandwiches. The White Cosmo (drink) was good. And our server was very good - Joanna. I would recommend this restaurant.
They have potential to be a great spot but the place was dead on what should have been a roaring night. The burgers were great, the calamari was good - overall the food and drinks where good.
I think it was just that it was so quiet in there that we left feeling like we could have done better.
In addition to a diverse menu, dining specials and a full bar, there are few restaurants where one would feel comfortable on a date, with a group of friends or with the kids in tow, High Life is one of those rare restaurants. A true neighborhood gem prices are reasonable, food is very good quality esp. for the price-point and service is friendly and efficient.
If you wish to avoid the families, go after 7P and the place truly becomes an adult speak-easy. On the menu do not be scared off by the sushi, very good quality and price. I used to eat at their 72nd and 1st Ave location and now have to make a bit of a trek north but well worth the trip. Those in the neighborhood know what a gem Hi-Life is and if visiting the UES and looking for a good restaurant catering to different experiences, you cannot go wrong.
They have great, friendly service and consistently good food. I had the spaghettini primavera with oil and it was delicious Two friends had lamb chops and raved about them.
I recommend Hi-Life on the East Side for lunch or dinner.
was the perfect place for a bday dinner and a table of 13. relaxed and loud enough atmosphere that we werent bothering other tables -- an expanded "bar" type menu with a little bit of everything for anyone (vegetarian options, sushi, burger, etc) -- relaxed staff, full bar, and daily "specials" that can help with the large tab. had a blast celebrating my husbands bday in a laid back restaurant.
This was a great find. A great throwback to days gone by. Children, parents and grandparents all loved. Definitely will go back!
Did not expect to enjoy this place as much as we did. Would definitely go back! Started with the calarmi and goat chesese salad. Both were perfect portions and so good! Then we split the lamb chops.. Cooked perfect with mashed potatoes and cream spinach. Overall, we enjoyed everything and would definitely go back!
After all these years in the neighborhood, Hi Life is still a great place to meet for drinks, burgers, and salads in a comfortable lounge environment.
