HG SPLY CO Ratings and Reviews
Went for Sunday brunch, but not really a brunch place despite having a brunch menu. No pancakes, French toast, etc. no special brunch cocktails. Very limited breakfast menu, mostly burgers, etc. Disappointing. Asked waiter for a strawberry or raspberry to put in my mimosa and he said they didn't have any, then my scrambled eggs were garnished with strawberry slices. Wth? Probably fine for lunch, but a poor choice for "brunch". Won't be going back.
Everyone enjoyed their food, ambience was great, love the cocktails! We were fortunate enough to enjoy the nightly toast and was able to experience a new local beer (which I ordered later).
Part of the draw is the gorgeous view of downtown from the rooftop terrace. Always a hit for out town guests.
This is a good spot if in the Lower Greenville area of Dallas. Gets busy, which means loud if you are inside. Because it gets busy, it can be tough to have a conversation inside. There is an upstairs open area which is nice on nice evenings, seating at a premium. Can get hectic. Food is good with variety. Parking is a hassle in this area, so be prepared to valet or circle around.
HG SPLY was recommended by a couple of my Uber/Lyft riders and I thought we would check it out. I took my wife here for her birthday and arrived early because one of the features of the restaurant mentioned to me was its great Roof Top Bar. It was just that, fun and really a great place to gather as a couple or as a group. While we didn't realize it was happy hour we did have a couple drinks and the house Old Fashion was really good and my wife had the Moscow Mule. It too was very refreshing. Jake was our waiter on the roof top and he was really fun and very informative. We went back downstairs for dinner, we had reservations, as they informed us by text that our table was ready. The menu was unique but had plenty for all to choose from. My wife had the Curry Bowl with chicken (you have other meat of seafood choices) and she loved it! I wanted to see how their Bacon Cheeseburger was with the Kobe beef and the flavor was very good. The bacon didn't overwhelm the taste of the beef as most bacon burgers do. Jen was our waitress and she was very good and funny. She must have heard it was my wife's birthday and after our meal was finished she brought out one of the best deserts either of us have had. Ok, maybe a stretch but darn close. The manager, Madison. also came over to the table to personally wish my wife a happy birthday and she was very fun. We were going to have a drink up on the roof after dinner but felt it was probably best if we didn't. then I would be calling for a ride from Uber or Lyft. :) We be back to have drinks again on the roof viewing the city skyline at night and enjoying a meal. We might just eat up there next time too.
I loved that we received a text when our table was ready by making reservations through Open Table. The waitress was so attentive, she explained everything on the menu after asking us if it was our first time (it was). Everything we ordered was delicious, and for locally sourced, organic food, it was very affordable. The rooftop bar is its greatest feature. It is very large, has a ton of seating, and is a really fun atmosphere.
Service was wonderful. I had the Delmonico, which was fantastic - well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Husband had the braised short ribs. He liked, but felt that it needed some more seasoning. Cocktails were equally good. It's hard to find paleo-friendly restaurants, so HG is definitely a great place even for non-paleo diners.
