Wait staff were nice, but the front desk left 20 tables open while families with little children were forced to wait 30+ minutes for a table simply because the “kitchen couldn’t keep up.” Terrible for a restaurant at a family resort. On top of it all, the food was terrible. Really regretful experience.

Steak was cooked perfectly but sides were not good. Baked potato on the hard side and vegetables really salty. Hardly anyone in restaurant so should have had our pick of the best table. Instead sat us (a couple) next to the wall in a very odd spot instead of by the windows with a view. Dessert was an odd combination of flavors. Coffee was excellent though.

We had a reservation for the Friday night seafood buffet. The food was tasty but there were significant service glitches. The soup station ran out of soup spoons and I had to report this three times to three different staff members to finally get a spoon. Raw oysters were advertised on the menu but were not available. We were told they ran out before 6:30 PM. Did not think it was worth the price.

Our reservation was for 6:45pm but we did not get a table until after 7pm. We sat on a nearby sofa watching other parties with reservations being shown to tables which was very frustrating. When we inquired, we were told that they were being sat at hightop tables which we preferred not to have. Service was VERY slow. My daughter got soup from the soup station but there were no spoons. We asked 3 different waiters for a spoon before one arrived and the one provided was an incorrect size. Food selection were good but replacement of low/empty items was slow. Price for buffet was reasonable.

The room was lovely, as was the hotel lobby but the food and dining room sadly was not. 3 of us had the breakfast buffet, the 4 ordered from the menu. We ordered coffee and it wasn’t hot...when your pour from a thermal pot, there should be steam...it was lukewarm...hard to get excited if the coffee at brunch isn’t piping hot. At the buffet line, the fresh cut fruit was great, the bacon, prescrambled eggs and sausage were hot and fresh. The home fries/ hashbrowsn weren’t hot and they tasted like the “frozen” taste hadn’t been cooked out of them properly... on a griddle in small batches with plenty of butter...salt and pepper barely made them edible. The mini waffle machine was good. The omelet station was “tired”, she said for a few items, that she didn’t have them ( out front where she was)..well then, go back in the kitchen and get them...I’m sure there was spinach back there. Each time one of us wanted an omelette we had to call for her to come out and make it. The grits hadn’t been stirred since they were brought out as they were thick and congealed.
The menu item that was ordered from the kitchen was a salad topped with grilled salmon. The mixed greens had a piece of plastic in it! The pull and open kind from a “clam shell” of greens you get at the grocery store ? Took a while to get the waitress attention and she did take it off the bill but as slo as it was, someone should have noticed that. I understand Hilton Head in the off season is slow, but don’t ever forget that the Locals are here year round...and we also work and talk to tourists and are very loyal to businesses that are good to US.... The F and B or restaurant manager should have been around ..these aren’t difficult things...everyone there needs to up their game.

Great selection includes roast prime beef with horseradish cream options, of course turkey with all the trimmings. Cheese and pâtés, rolls dessert table and salad buffet. Chilled raw oysters, clams and then shrimp cocktails. Great selection of wines too.

A wonderful retreat at the resort. While you may not think that a hotel restaurant would be top notch, you'd be wrong at Heyward's. Excellent tasting food and very good service. Definitely worth the visit.

My hubby and I decided to celebrate our anniversary late by vacationing in Hilton Head this year. We decided to include Heyward's seafood buffet, and it was great. We had a quiet table in the back, our wait staff was wonderful, service excellent, and we had a terrific fun time. Love the water bottles on the table too.

While on vacation at the Shipyard Plantation we went to the Heyward and sat outside. The service was attentive and responsive, although the food turnaround was a bit slow. The food was tasty. We sat outside and the main issue was there were no candles on the tables or outside lighting provided, so we couldn't see-- the food, the check, or each other! We and others used their flashlights on their phones to function through dinner. It was distracting to eat with one hand and control the light on your phone with the other. Candles would be an easy fix which could have changed the whole dining experience.

We ate there for the crab legs which we’re cold every time they brought them out. The service was extremely slow and food was not worth the price when it’s a seafood buffet would except more than fish, at least more variety. Would not go back or recommend.

The restaurant was very nice and the food was excellent. The waitstaff was exceptional.

The experience was lessened by a rude woman who jumped up and started pounding on the window and screaming to discipline her children. This certainly was no fault of the restaurant, Just a random jerk thrown into our evening.

Friday night seafood buffet was wonderful. Main dishes were delicious and dessert was yummy too! My husband added the crab legs and said they were good. Service in this restaurant needs improvement though. The staff is friendly, but more so with each other than the guests. They need a little refresher on professionalism.

We each ordered an app. A salad and dinner. Salads and apps came out approx 30 minutes after order and main course came out 1.25 hrs after ordering. Food was ok not great. I noticed the bar food walking in and that looked great. Coming from charleston it is hard to compete with the food served in chs. The hotel is beautiful, people are very nice, food needs some TLC.

Restaurant Week. It appeared that I had the whole place to myself but that was because I had a late reservation. My palette expands through time and this place gave me quite a jump. The food was bursting with flavor but a bit on the pricey side. But that's what you get when you go fancy.

The Friday night seafood buffet is hard to beat
Start with a cup of seafood bisque, move in to clams, mussels, shrimp, and oysters. Take a break and get a slab of prime rib. With a baked potato and salad .Then sample the many fish dishes and end with mini desserts
Then sit for an hour before going home
Perfect
Do it all over again next Friday night🙃

Enjoyed this restaurant during a business trip, well staffed with very trained and attentive staff. Especially appreciate the flexibility to provide gluten free options to existing menus. Food was excellent and well prepared. Excellent value for a hotel venue.

We enjoyed the food thoroughly but it was 9:30 at night and the room was very bright! For just 2 people, it should have had soft lighting to make it more intimate and special.

Enjoyed the Friday night seafood buffet which included prime rib. A nice assortment of vegetables, cheese, salad , bisque and desserts rounded out our meal . The food was tasty--our server was pleasant and attentive. We were happy to have a window seat overlooking the manicured pool area . We hope to return soon!

This restaurant is amature at best. The food is overpriced and poor quality. I would actually go as far as guessing there was no actual chef there. I ordered the penne and artichoke pasta. The menu said it had grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, panchetta. It however came out with tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, and mushrooms. Not even any meat. How does that happen that I receive a completely different dish that wasn't on the menu?? Service was good, it wasn't her fault. The pasta was taken off. They also made a new one. It had correct ingredients, but still wasn't good. We had the calamari appetizer and I scratched my toungue and almost choked on some disgusting fish bone thing... strange right since there are no bones in calamari?!?

We have eaten there many times in the hotel. It's all just average. Don't expect a great vacation meal.

Fantastic night. We had the seafood buffet. Everything was delicious and our server was so great. We were celebrating our anniversary and ate as a family with my mom and 2 year old. The server even brought us a personalized Happy Anniversary dessert and a single rose! They were so welcoming and kind to my two year old as well! It was upscale and family friendly all at once! We will return.

Service was very slow, after 40 minutes we finally had the "bread lady" stop by the table and never saw her again - kitchen was extremely backed up according to our server - our server had a wonderful personality but not so much on the follow up
