We each ordered an app. A salad and dinner. Salads and apps came out approx 30 minutes after order and main course came out 1.25 hrs after ordering. Food was ok not great. I noticed the bar food walking in and that looked great. Coming from charleston it is hard to compete with the food served in chs. The hotel is beautiful, people are very nice, food needs some TLC.
Restaurant Week. It appeared that I had the whole place to myself but that was because I had a late reservation. My palette expands through time and this place gave me quite a jump. The food was bursting with flavor but a bit on the pricey side. But that's what you get when you go fancy.
The Friday night seafood buffet is hard to beat
Start with a cup of seafood bisque, move in to clams, mussels, shrimp, and oysters. Take a break and get a slab of prime rib. With a baked potato and salad .Then sample the many fish dishes and end with mini desserts
Then sit for an hour before going home
Do it all over again next Friday night🙃
Enjoyed this restaurant during a business trip, well staffed with very trained and attentive staff. Especially appreciate the flexibility to provide gluten free options to existing menus. Food was excellent and well prepared. Excellent value for a hotel venue.
We enjoyed the food thoroughly but it was 9:30 at night and the room was very bright! For just 2 people, it should have had soft lighting to make it more intimate and special.
The food was great. The waitress was excellent. Relaxing time after day on the road.
The Open Table reservation did not show up on their list. We were able to get a table anyway.
Enjoyed the Friday night seafood buffet which included prime rib. A nice assortment of vegetables, cheese, salad , bisque and desserts rounded out our meal . The food was tasty--our server was pleasant and attentive. We were happy to have a window seat overlooking the manicured pool area . We hope to return soon!
Everything was great! The food and experience was wonderful! Our waitress was so good with our son, keeping him entertained and brought his food out soon after we ordered, so he didn't have to wait to eat!
This restaurant is amature at best. The food is overpriced and poor quality. I would actually go as far as guessing there was no actual chef there. I ordered the penne and artichoke pasta. The menu said it had grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, panchetta. It however came out with tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, and mushrooms. Not even any meat. How does that happen that I receive a completely different dish that wasn't on the menu?? Service was good, it wasn't her fault. The pasta was taken off. They also made a new one. It had correct ingredients, but still wasn't good. We had the calamari appetizer and I scratched my toungue and almost choked on some disgusting fish bone thing... strange right since there are no bones in calamari?!?
We have eaten there many times in the hotel. It's all just average. Don't expect a great vacation meal.
Fantastic night. We had the seafood buffet. Everything was delicious and our server was so great. We were celebrating our anniversary and ate as a family with my mom and 2 year old. The server even brought us a personalized Happy Anniversary dessert and a single rose! They were so welcoming and kind to my two year old as well! It was upscale and family friendly all at once! We will return.

Service was very slow, after 40 minutes we finally had the "bread lady" stop by the table and never saw her again - kitchen was extremely backed up according to our server - our server had a wonderful personality but not so much on the follow up
My food was served luke warm.My husband ordered a medium rare steak and it came well done. I got very little food for the price. My pasta was supposed to come with sausage, bit instead came with beef. The lobster mac n cheese was delicious. Otherwise, disappointing.

This was our first time dining at Heyward's - Sonesta Resort and we were very pleased with our decision to try it. The menu has interesting and tasty choices and we were very satisfied with our meal and dessert. It's a special place to go for a special evening out! Our waitress was wonderful, too!
An excellent restaurant in the Sonesta Beach Hotel. Not well known. At times during our dinner we were the only table being served. When we went home after a two hour dinner there were three tables being served.
The food was high quality and service outstanding (but we were the only table) LOL
My daughter and I enjoyed the Christmas night buffet to the fullest extent. Our waiter Patrick made the evening so delightful. The food was scrumptious. A perfect choice for the holiday while visiting Hilton Head Island!
The ambience was very nice. However, the seafood buffet was not really hot and the fish was dried up. On the other hand, the hand carved prime rib was tasty and tender. The servers were very pleasant and attentive.
Omar was our server and we loved everything about the dining experience, fish and steak were above average in pleasant atmosphere.
Reserved Heyward's but when we arrived we were told Heyward's was closed and we were sat at the lunch restaurant instead. The food was ok but the service was extremely, extremely slow. We were one of only 2 tables in the restaurant.
Very satisfied with this experience! We'll come back !
Great service. Food and specialty drink were mediocre at best.
For an establishment that builds having "dinner daily with a Steakhouse flare", we were not impressed. There was only one other couple in the entire restaurant yet the service was painfully slow. Our drink order was incorrect and the steak I ordered medium was served rare. Will not go back.
Other than the waiter was okay nothing special. Lot of other options for the money.
It had been raining all day so we decided to eat in our hotel. The food was delicious, but our server, Janine, made our experience very fun. She is a terrific server and very sweet and friendly. The restaurant was a very special hotel restaurant with wonderful food and service!
The restaurant was VERY cold and it seemed like the heat was broken. We asked for it to be turned up and it was eventually less frigid. The food ranged from really good to "I've had better elsewhere". The medium steak I ordered was a bit too well and dry, but my wife's dish was fine. The lava cake for dessert, however, was fantastic. Overall, it was an OK experience that probably wasn't an adequate reflection of the restaurant because we came during the off season.
The buffet included anything a person could want. Had a nice buffet section for children. Great table, view, and service.
Was there on a Tuesday night so it was quiet. The food was very good and the service was also very good. I would go back again
My wife and I were on vacation and stayed at the Sonesta. We booked the in-house restaurant the first night there without really expecting much. To our pleasant surprise, it was quite good.
We were told the advertised seafood buffet was not offered in the off season (Mid March?). I expect it may really have been since we were the only diners. We were also told they knew nothing about the 20% discount offered to the Spinnaker Resort residents even though it was documented by Spinnaker.
Having said all that our server was extremely good and also took it upon herself to tell the manager she was offering the discount since the buffet was not offered and we came in good faith.
The food was OK but nothing memorable except for the price. Basic shrimp and grits that had little taste were $26 and a basic shrimp dish with rice was $28. The coastal chowder was tasty and reasonable at $6.
Overall not a $100 meal before discount.
A little slow with getting our food out.
We were staying at Sonesta Hilton Head Island and decided to give a chance to the hotel's restaurant. Usually, those restaurants are very good. However, Heyward's is a sad exception. The hostess took more than 10 minutes to attend us. We needed to be seated by a waitress, because the hostess was simply "dealing with another guest" (even though the restaurant was far from being full). We came from a road trip through Charleston and Savannah, so we were used to have great food wherever we'd go. We found the food in Heyward's very untasteful. The freshly baked breads and the great argentinian waitress that served us saved our dinner.
First ... The service was excellent and highly attentive. My wife and I both ordered Filet Mignon, hers medium well, mine medium rare. Both orders cooked to perfection. Delicious filets and sides. Highly recommended.
For a hotel restaurant, Heyward's was surprisingly good. The ribeye and filet mignon were melt in your mouth tender. Side dishes were enough to share, the mushrooms being exceptionally good. Twice baked potato was enormous but a bit short on flavor. Salmon was cooked to perfection and tasty as well. We sat indoors and on a very warm night it was cool and comfortable. There is a nice outdoor area as well.
