Guests can start their meal with an appetizer of lobster bisque, crab cakes or a spinach salad with grilled shrimp. An entrée of lemon chicken with greens, braised short ribs with julienne vegetables or roasted rack of lamb with rosemary sauce will please the palate.
Hexagone features a full bar that serves a variety of drinks, including cocktails. It also has a happy hour with specials and its own menu. This restaurant provides catering services and welcomes reservations, making it ideal for date night with that special someone.
We went for Christmas dinner and the Chef must have gotten all he wanted, the food was very well prepared and served by a good waiter that understood the food and preperation.
Nice work, we will be back.
Wonderful Christmas Dinner! Excellent food and service. Best Sea Bass I have ever had!
I and the family found Hexagone open after a show at the Old Globe on Thursday night. Superb crispy sweetbreads for appetizers. Braised short ribs for my daughter, salad with prawns for the Mrs. and duck with orange sauce for me. Food quality was excellent. The ZD Chardonnay was a perfect match for the meal. We'll be back.
food & service was excellant for a great lunch experience
Hexagone is definitely looking to get attention with an attractively priced menu and excellent food. In addition, great wines, like the Cain Cuvee and Cakebread Chardonnay were offered at less than retail prices - what a nice gift! Our waiter was fun and charming; the food was well prepared and tasty, and the overall price very reasonable. It looks like they also have a good happy hour with a robust appetizer selection and drink specials - we will be back to check that out!
We had a good time. 6 of us showed for dinner. One couple was a bit late and that could have been a problem for some places, but they handled us really well. We were a wine drinking crowd. We bought a bottle of Chablis off the list and brought 4 bottles of our own. They charged us $15 each for the corkage but kept us in clean stems all night. They packed a table next to us with the stemware. They brought one of us a bowl of extra cassoulet because he had been yearning for it. The menu had one dish with the cassoulet but it was a smaller side dish portion. 2 of us had lamb shanks, which fell off the bone and were awesome. My wife had the short ribs which she said were excellent. Everyone liked the food. Great evening.
had a great time celebrating my daughter's engagement as well as the holidays. Hexagone was just the place we were looking for.
Low key elegance and quality. Loved it.
Always a favorite among friends. Can safely recommend as they are consistently good. The evening we dined, there was duet performing which added to our enjoyment.
L'Hexagone: la France, à cause de sa carte. I have eaten there (that I can remember) three times. December the 7th was absolutely the very, very best, the food, that is. Better than the French Gourmet, better even than Tapénade, but that awful singing (Chantal)- that voice so coarse and so loud. No conversation possible. I was informed that she is only there once a month. Next time I will ask.
Nice Room, Good Food, Fair Price, attentive wait staff
Food was delicious, proximity to Balboa Park excellent.
We unfortunately went on a night where something was going on in Balboa Park so the streets/parking were a nightmare. Hexagon had their garage parking roped off, making it look like my car had to be valeted, but when I drove by the restaurant there was no place to pull over. So, I ended up parking blocks and blocks away. Granted this is not a common occurrence, but how parking was set up that night was terrible. Appetizers and drinks were good. Our waiter was great and both he and the owner apologized for the parking situation. Both of our entrees were ok, but nothing special; not worth the price paid. I would go back for happy hour in a heartbeat (although they didn't have a very large bar), but would skip the main course.
Love it! As always, the food is very good and it's a great place to relax and watch the street scene.
The food and service was great, but my husband and I had an early reservation and the noise from the bar at happy hour was a little distracting.
Food was very good. I will be back.
Dined here on Thanksgiving for the second time. The service was good and they offered a very diverse menu. Not just turkey and dressing, which I appreciated. I had the rack of lamb which was cooked to order and very tasty. I enjoyed one of the best crab cakes as an appetizer that I've had here in San Diego. This visit was a vast improvement from the first time I dined here. Would definetly dine here again.
All in all it was a decent experience at this resturant. We were there for a Thanksgiving dinner. The resturant did have a variety of choices to choice for a 3 course dinner. However, it took too long to receive our drinks, appietizers and our dinner. During dessert we were not asked if we wanted coffee with our dessert. It was not that busy when we got there and the waiter that we had after five mintues of getting there had to go on his lunch hour.
Food was impeccable - lamb cooked absolutely perfectly. Presentation lovely. Service friendly, professional and helpful. Wine list well balanced.
It is a good, but not great, neighborhood French eatery. Our waiter was very nice, attentive but not a nuisance and the ambiance was calm and pleasant. Everything we ordered was presented nicely and seasoned well but nothing was fabulous. The Apple-basil martini was recommended by the waiter, all ingredients are fresh (including the muddled apples) it was fun to try but definitely had much more basil than apple flavor. On a Tuesday night they were out of the first 2 beers we tried to order.
Authentic French bistro - very good
Despite a 6:30 reservation we were not seated until 7:15. Took about 5 minutes to get a menue. Bread did not arrive for another 15 minutes. (I thought bread was hard as a rock)( Waiter was friendly but little harmony among staff. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Upon leaving the restuarant we needed to jump out of the aisle to avoid being run over by a double timing waiter. This was our first and last visit.
We had a very enjoyable dinner at Hexagone. The service was friendly, polite, and attentive. My wife had the coq au vin and I had beef tenderloin; both were excellent. We dined early on a weeknight so there were very few customers and the room was pleasantly quiet.
I've eaten at a lot of French restaurants and this was as mediocre as they come. We had the escargot pretty standard, garlic, Btr., parsley & SALTY, & we had the sweet breads small thin over cooked discs with a little sauteed mushrooms nothing special. The Entrees were good, a Risotto Special and Duck again nothing to rave about but decent. The WORST was the service & ambience. We had to ask for refills of coffee which my wife ordered at the start, never refilled waters, each courses plates sat there empty before being removed entrees sat there for over 10 min & 10 for desert menus & they were out of the 1 thing we wanted. All you could hear was other tables conversations, no music & the MGR sat in the corner. Staff didn't know the menu.
We had a great experience at Hexagone. The drinks, food and service was fantastic. It was hopping on a Saturday night and was a romantic evening.
The food was absolutely delicious especially the Rack of Lamb and Roast Duck! The sizes of the meals are perfectly portioned so you can enjoy an appetizer, entree, and a delectable dessert without being overly full. The only mildly annoying thing I found was the butter was so cold it would tear apart their delicious rolls. Other than that, I was amazed.
We had reservations for a special occasion, however, we were not seated promptly, then seated by the kitchen with all of the foot traffic. Since it was our first visit and it was recommended by one of the owners to us, we peaked around the corner and saw may nice tables in a quiet area away from the kitchen. Window tables also looked lovely, but we of course got the table near the kitchen entry. So, we did not stay for dessert. I think the experience would have been very different had we been seated by the window or around the corner in the more private area.
Hexagone is not great for outdoor dining, not a neighborhoond gem, not a hot spot, not a vibrant bar scene, Definitely not kid friendly not a late night find most of their patrons can't find their way home when it's late, And looking in to Laurel street does not qualify as a scenic view.
While I was there the average age of their customers was probably north of 70.
If a new catagory was created that noted a good place to spend your social security check, I would probably check that box. I will say the food was probably a 7-8 and thats it, although the noise level was quieter than a mortuary after visiting hours. Go Enjoy
We went to Hexagone Saturday night before going to the Old Globe. The food was wonderful (as usual). My nephew, Michael, was with Steven and me. Michael had the Sea Bass, Steven had the duck, and I had the halibut/lobster. We all traded bites and then couldn't make up our minds as to who had the best dinner--they were all perfect. My halibut/lobster was yummy, but I know I'll be ordering one of the other dishes next time. We also ordered the escargot--mainly as a dare to Michael to try it. Wow! I think it was the best I ever had and Michael went in for seconds. The waiters at Hexagone are all great. We noted that they have been there since we started going to this place--likely a testament to good management.
The food was good and the ambiance was lovely when we first came in - it got kind of loud as the evening went on.
Coming from the east I have to say I've had a pretty hard time finding good food in San Diego. However, the food at Hexagone is excellent. We started with the escargot. I chose the field green salad and my man had the lobster bisque. Then we had the veal and rack of lamb respectively and topped it off with the chocolate bomb. Everything was outstanding!! Unfortunately, the wine list leaves something to be desired, especially for a French restaurant. The selection of French wines is about the same as Vons but with usual 300% mark-up so it would be nice to get a bottle that I don't already have in my fridge at home. The ambiance is okay but loud...not at all intimate. So my rating for Hexagone as outstanding is because the food truly is.
I ordered the White fish special and it was outstanding.
It was our first visit using a coupon...the food and presentation was fabulous. We're going back!!
Went for a birthday reservation and waiter was very helpful and nice to the honoree. Service was lovely and dinner went for several hours which gave us time to chat and have a nice meal together.
We brought a coupon and the waiter was very proactive in providing a discounted bill.
All was excellent except that the potatoes were served cold. The waiter immediately came back with a hot portion.Bravo.
Food was boring, wine list was vague, and service was very rushed.
The service was excellent. We have eaten here several times and was disappointed to find that the quality of food is not consistant. This year we participated dining at four restaurants during restaurant week. Hexagone was the only experience that served portions far below their refular potions, the sweetbread appetizer was particularly chintzy, unlike the other restaurants that served their regular sized portions.
We were a party of 6, arriving at 5:00pm, for a pre-theatre dinner. The waiter was informed that we had a 7:00 curtain, just 5 minutes away (or a 10 minute walk). Drinks, appetizers and main courses arrived promptly; after that, our waiter was MIA, despite a nearly empty restaurant (only one other table occupied for the first 1/2 hour, a couple more after that.) Long delay before & after dessert...then waiter nowhere to be found to pay. The only other waiter on the floor refused to take payment by credit cards....! And he did not look for our waiter, who then returned from outside the restaurant! The wait from when everyone was finished (6:30) to when we could actually pay the bill was over 20 minutes. Not good.
Our second trip to Hexagone in 10 days....loved the Paris scene singer though the sound was a bit too loud for dining conversation. Food was excellent and Randal's service again was impecable. We love the consistantly lovely food like the escargot, lamb, scallops, pate, and the warm atmosphere of both of Patrick's restaurants.
Very pleasing experience. The steak was outstanding and the service was perfect. Highly recommend.
