Dine on French cuisine at Hexagone. Its classy, yet casual setting features clothed tables and warm lighting. Hexagone serves a variety of flavorful dishes. Guests can start their meal with an appetizer of lobster bisque, crab cakes or a spinach salad with grilled shrimp. An entrée of lemon chicken with greens, braised short ribs with julienne vegetables or roasted rack of lamb with rosemary sauce will please the palate.
Hexagone features a full bar that serves a variety of drinks, including cocktails. It also has a happy hour with specials and its own menu. This restaurant provides catering services and welcomes reservations, making it ideal for date night with that special someone.
Service is polite, courteous, and neither intrusive nor rushed. Probably attributed to the maturity and professionalism of the staff.
Food is flavorful, interesting, presented artistically for the eye, simply great.

We were going to the Old Globe for a performance and they could not have been more accommodating. Jerry was our waiter and was great. The food was excellent. And, if you need it, they have a van to take you to the theater. We'll be back.
My wife and I visited Hexagone prior to a performance at the Old Globe. It was everything we had hoped for. Great service, incredible food and perfect timing to get us to the theatre on time.
We could not have been more disappointed. My guest ordered the salad and the scallop appetizer. I ordered the Duck after the server told me it was the restaurant 's specialty. Her salad came out right away and then we waited over a 1/2 hour for her scallops and my entree. When we reminded him that we were on the way to theater, he told us that our dinner was being plated. Ten minutes later he said it will be out in a minute. It was served ten minutes later. The Duck was the consistency of rubber and uneatible.
All was awesome. We will be back.
Conveniently located, free parking, a ride to and from the Old Globe.....and a great meal! Does it get better than this? We always enjoy our dinners at Hexagone and recommend it highly, especially if you are attending theater at the Old Globe. The service is wonderful always and the email specials are something I look forward to seeing in my inbox every week!
Third time there. First time, we really enjoyed it. Second time not so much. Gave it one more try. Food was under cooked, service is rushed. Can't recommend that anyone go there.
We wanted to try the place as we had been by it several times and liked the building. But the food was very mediocre, for $30-35 a plate with tax and tip there are a lot of other options. I think it is popular as you can have dinner and get shuttled into the park for a play, but if you are not going to a play, I wouldn't recommend dinner here.
Great location for a performance at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego. Good solid French cuisine. I had coq au vin which was quite good. The waiter was a kick and very helpful. The restaurant even has a shuttle to the theater. Pleasant ambience and congenial waitstaff.
We expected much from Hexagone, especially on a sleepy Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Alas, we were mistaken. Our waiter, though courteous, was unfocused. For example, late in our meal we noticed that other tables had been served bread, but we were not. In general, he was almost invisible.
The quality of food preparation varied. The beef bourguignon was excellent. The strip steak was mediocre, as was its sauce. The fish was dry.
The most annoying aspect, however, was the 70 minutes wait for the arrival of these entrees, when the restaurant was almost empty.
We don't plan to give Hexagone another chance.
Hexagone was my father's favorite neighborhood place, so we took him to dinner there for his birthday. Service was incredibly slow, it took an hour and fifteen minutes for our meals. The lobster bisque was awful. After complaining, we were not charged for the bisque. I had indicated when making the reservation that it was my Dad's 78 birthday dinner and the staff failed to acknowledge it. The meals were good, but overall the experience was disappointing. As we left my Dad mentioned that he needs to find a new neighborhood restaurant.
Good French food here. We had the Escargot, Mussels and Clams, Lamb Chops and their signature pasta dish for lunch. All were good. Got a good amount of shellfish. The Escargot was fresh and delicious, Lamb was cooked to my delight. Wonderful service from our waiter!! Thanks For listening.
I arrived on time for a reservation at noon. The hostess was chatting with a customer and did not notice us. This was OK but when other people came in behind us to join the person the hostess was chatting with, the hostess did not even acknowledge we were there. No big deal as it didn't take long. Her server skills were adequate and she rarely smiled. The food was quite good so I feel it is a place I might try again.
Each dish was excellent, as always. Our waiter was excellent and very attentive without being a helicopter type. Not intrusive, but he bought what we needed before we asked, and he was very helpful about letting us know what would be good to order given our time constraints.
Have been to Hexagone several times pre-theater, Food is consistently excellent. Kitchen is slower than usual in the 2 hours before Old Globe theater time on the weekend, so plan for that. Service is friendly and attentive. Solid wine list.
Hexagone offered a spectacular prefix dinner to Celebrate Bastille Day. If you missed it you must mark you calendar for next year. Great menu, food delicious, service on the spot.
I find the food at Hexagone somewhat pricey for what you get, and the service is often slow. But the owner is often present and drives shuttle to shows at the Old Globe, which is great. You can also park in the parking garage below the restaurant for free. So this all makes for a pleasant and relaxed outing since you can arrive early for dinner, relax, and not have to worry about parking at The old Globe. They serve a yummy Sazerac, which is a New Orleans version of a Manhattan.
I expect a restaurant to charge 2 to 2 1/2 times retail for wine. I spent $54.50 for Souvereign Cabernet Sauvignon 2012. When I got home, I went to wine searcher.com and found it retail for $12.99. Hexagone charged more than 4 times the retail price. I have been to the restaurant several times and even brought guests. Because of this price gouging, I will never go again.
On a recent trip to visit friends in the San Diego area, we visited Hexagone. The food was wonderful & our servers were fun & nice, making great recommendations for all 5 of us. Would definitely visit again!
We came in for my mom's bday. I ordered the steamed clams (good, I wouldn't preferred a little less wine and a little more garlic); the escargot which were delicious; the rack of lamb was cooked perfectly and the onion soup (which I felt was too sweet and not enough cheese).
I don't think they were prepared for our party of 9 or it was an off night for our server because she forgot one order and 2 appetizers. I don't understand how since she wrote all the orders down.
Either way that was the only hiccup but they did go above-and-beyond to compensate the mishap. They brought extra food and did not charge for the tardy plates. I'd go back but probably with a smaller group.
The menu was very inviting and the food delivered on the promise. The service was attentive and well informed.
The food here is very good and consistent. Good portions and reasonable prices-what else could you ask for.
Made a reservation for my daughter's Birthday,; we were seated promptly, our waiter was charming and attentive. We ordered lobster bisque, beef bourguignon and mushroom ravioli with ratatouille. The flavors were exceptional. Extensive wine list and muddled cocktails. Dessert was chocolate mousse encased in a chocolate shell, delightfully delicious! I have already recommended this resturant to friends. I'll be going back!
As always has been a favorite place for me to eat while in San Diego.
Highly recommend Hexagone
Have come here a number of times and enjoy the food and ambiance. Tonight, they were understaffed and overworked. The bar maid was pitch hitting for the waiter and visa versa. I felt bad for them as they didn't have any back up.
What I did enjoy was that we were not rushed but had a nice time to relax and enjoy each other's company between courses, just like the Europeans do..enjoyable ambiance!
Short Ribs were delectable. My steak sirloin was cooked perfectly but could have been more tender. Scrimp scampi and pasta very good with large shrimp. The banana foster's cheese cake is scrumptious!
good wine selection.
Made reservations, and asked to sit by window as a request when I filled out form online...didn't get it when there were plenty seats available. Server didn't answer any questions that I had about the food and actually talked down what I ordered as he didn't like it. I just wanted to know about some of the food available as it was our first time there. The French themed posters on the wall and the layout of the restaurant with linen tabletops made you feel cozy and comfortable.
Four of us had an enjoyable meal. Service was very good. Food was very good. Not at the same level as Mr. A's (next door), but not at the same price point either.
We have been to Hexagone several times and have never been disappointed. It is also one of the few restaurants where you can actually have a conversation and be heard across the table!
Delucious food. The flavors were rich and memorable. The scallops I'm grapefruit sauce was amazing. My nephews enjoyed their steak, the sauce was perfect. The lobster bisque was the only meal that was not our favorite. Our waitress seemed to disregard us. It took 15 minutes to get the bread, she was rushing us to order, did not keep us inform of why it was taking so long. It felt because we were a large party she didn't care to service us well since her tip was automatic. Service for me is huge, and in that alone I will not go. I'm not a fan of going back were I don't feel welcome.
It is always a treat and pleasure to eat at this fine restaurant. The food, service and ambiance are fantastic. You will not be disappointed. There selection, presentation and splendid array of food dishes will make it difficult for you to decide what to order. Make a point to visit this fine establishment if you are in the San Diego area.
Hexagone offers specials frequently. Be sure to sign up for their VIP club to learn about what is offered. This weeks 3 course fish dinner was outstanding.
I ordered the beef bourguignon (which I had in the past and liked) but found it to be unspired this time. Not that much flavor, virtually no vegetables. Just chunks of meat. Disappointing. The others ordered short ribs and were happy.
Our waiter knows us now. He takes really good care of everybody, but we feel very special as he always remembers our favorites and makes us feel very welcome. Hexagone is very fortunate to have him.
Hexagone's website really hits the mark in it's description saying it "blends traditional French dishes with updated California cuisine." And folks it's not a pretentious French place Also it is a great choice for pre-theatre (Old Globe) dining, it opens early, is convenient and they offer a free shuttle to and from the theatre. I invited a friend to join me for dinner but we couldn't get past the extensive list of appetizers. We had: assiette de charcuterie with country paté, rosette de Lyon and prosciutto; escargots à la bourguigonne (reminded me of Paris and oh yes garlicky); 2 orders of scallops with grapefruit sauce (incredible); and grilled shrimp with tomato confit (outstanding). Of course the French bread and butter was soooooooo good. I had a delicious glass of St. Supery Estate Vineyards & WInery 2014 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Our server Yohann was manning the restaurant alone and did a wonderful job making sure everything was handled promptly and we had everything we needed.
Location is good if going to The Old Globe for theater. They offer a nice, complimentary shuttle service there and back. Had a nice 3 course meal of salad, salmon, and cheesecake for $19.99.
It was delicious, cooked just right and a nice sized portion. I felt it was a good value.
Hexagone is one our favorite restaurants in San Diego. The food is excellent - they really know how to cook fish. It is one of the rare restaurants where you can actually have a conversation and be heard!
My fiance and I have not had a date night in quite some time (due to work, etc.). So I made reservations at the hexagon, neither one of us had French food before and it was exquisite! From beginning to the end we enjoyed every moment. The lamb was to die for and the steak mouth watering after every bite. I highly recommend this restaurant for a lovely datenight or just a fabulous meal.
WE'VE BEEN COMING TO HEXAGONE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND NEVER HAVE BEEN DISAPPOINTED.
GET ON THEIR EMAIL LIST FOR SPECIALS ON MOST NIGHTS. A GREAT LOCATION NEAR BALBOA PARK.
WATCH FOR THE STEAK AND LOBSTER SPECIAL.
We rediscovered hexagone a few months back and now it is our favorite for the pre-theater supper. Elegant and subdued, with a terrific staff. The food is always top-rate with French classics and American dishes too. Highly recomended.
