Four of us enjoyed a wonderful dinner on the pre theatre menu. Two courses for around £10 was excellent value for the quality of food offered. Couldn't help but add dessert too, sticky toffee pudding was to die for! Highly recommend.

Four of us went midweek and had the special 2 course menu - dine for about a tenner (£10.25 actually). For this price you would think they would reduce the quality but no. The food is the same quality as that from the midweek main menu (£18.50 for 2 courses or £22.50 for 3) except the portions were a bit smaller. However, not a problem for our group as we all had plenty to eat especially when you consider they also provide delicious complimentary bread. We all had sweets and you can select the one from the 'tenner' menu for £3.95 (sticky toffee pudding when we were there) or from the main menu which are slightly more expensive at £5.95. Delicious.

This is a lovely resturaunt and beautifully laid out for a romantic, relaxed, meal. The main problem is that we all felt that the food was nothing special and didn't reflect the skill or flavours the menu seemed to promise. The boar was overlooked and the lamb tasteless and drab. It felt a bit 'home cooking' in a lovely place so was a bit of a let down after seeming so initially positive.

Four of us went on a Saturday evening and from the moment we walked through the door we were well looked after. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the quality of the food and the house wine was excellent. This was our fourth visit and we will certainly return.

Having no personal experience or friends recommendations to go on, we were a bit unsure whether it would live up to the good reviews on Toptable. Whilst the decor in the restaurant is traditional and maybe not as flash as some competitors, the food lived up to it's billing. The menu was not expansive, but to be fair it doesn't need to be - the dishes on it offer a reasonable range and the chefs talent is obvious - all our meals were cooked to perfection. I'd recommend this restaurant - the value for money was hard to beat and the chef certainly does not skip on quality for the sake of price.

As always, my friend and I enjoyed friendly and attentive service and lovely food, which are charateristic of Hewats. And their mid-week offer of 'two courses for about a tenner' represents fantastic value for money and this menu features courses from their a la carte menu, so customers are not getting fobbed off with inferior choices. As fairly regular customers over the years, we've never been disappointed with any feature of any meal we've enjoyed at Hewats.

A family run restsurant which stands. Out for value and good food in these difficult times. The choices on the menus is to be praised. The chef ensures all meals are cooked to requirements. Worth visiting even during the week .

Hewat's gave us a really good meal and at good value. Wine list gave plenty of choice and was well priced to complement the food. This is a great restaurant that does good food well without the rubbish ingredients other restaurants foist on customers like pork belly and rabbit.

It is good when your name is recognised in an e booking. The menu gave a good selection but not so many items as would make one suspect a deep freeze source. All courses were full of flavour, freshness and well presented. Even at 6.30pm well patronised. Being within walking distance even for OAPs means we could both enjoy a bottle of wine .. We'll be back

Only an hour between sitting down & having to leave to go to a concert during the Edinburgh fringe. The staff were very accomodating & gave us priority service over other customers. The 2 course meal was excellent value & the food was coked to perfection. I would certainly go back & recommend to others.
