This was our second visit and both times we loved our meals. I tried the pepperoni pizza and it was superb--as good as any I've had in the Baltimore/DC area. My wife (Italian and a connoisseur of all pasta dishes) tried the ravioli and almost swooned over it. After sampling hers I agreed--it was wonderful ravioli, fresh and light and with a lovely, distinctive taste. I also enjoyed the wine I chose from the small, but distinctive, wine list.
The only parts of the meal that fell short (to me, not to my wife, who disagreed with my evaluation) were the crab fritters, an appetizer, that seemed doughy and sadly lacking in crab content or taste, and the doughnut trio for dessert. I love doughnuts but couldn't get interested in these--never before had encountered doughnuts with a salt topping. Salt is for pretzels, not doughnuts. Still, overall, the dining experience at Hersh's was a very good one.
Have never had a bad meal here! Will continue to come back without a doubt.
Inventive bar menu, great service, terrific pizzas. One of our favorite restaurants!
Normally love Hershes but was an off night for them. I got the steak and it was so incredibly tough and cooked wrong I couldn’t chew or swallow it. My jaw was hurting from chewing it and half of the steak was inedible. The server was fairly rude when I told her but the manager came over and was so nice and understanding. I can cook a pretty tender steak myself, and for $30 it should be like butter not impossible to chew or swallow. Flavor was good though. I still love this place and am looking forward to going back.
The cheese under the meet balls was ice cold. I ordered the ravioli which came cold. I had it warmed up which was better. The sauce was watery.
One of my favorite spots in Baltimore - we always take our out of town guests and it leaves them with the best impression of our great city!
Simply the best! You cannot order wrong
Great Mother’s Day dinner! Appetizers and pasta were fantastic.
Delish food and cocktails served with a smile - thank you!
I always have a great time at Hersh's. The food never disappoints and the service is always great. Everyone is friendly and informative!
Our favorite restaurant in Baltimore. Always great food, relaxed atmosphere and wonderful, friendly service. This is a restaurant that cares about it’s customers, and I love the nod to the changing seasons reflected on the menu. About 2 weeks ago we had an amazing soft shell crab, cooked perfectly and served with a farro risotto with asparagus (hoping to see that dish again soon), and last week we had asparagus raviolis in a Parmesan broth, tender little pillows of absolute delight - yum, yum yum!
Excellent place for great food and wonderful staff!
Food is outstanding - they take what could be a simple menu and create the most taste-filled, heavenly dishes. I would recommend everything on this menu but my favorite dishes so far are the following - apps: MUST try to meatballs and calamari pizza: kale and pistachio along with the pepperonioni are incredible pasta: best pasta carbonara I’ve had. This is a MUST-go restaurant. Service is equally as wonderful as it the minimalist and lovely decor.
Good food. Tables are a little close together. Serving staff was friendly and attentive.
Limited menu, but the food is all good. I'm a big fan of the carbonara and the fact that the pasta dishes come in large and small serving sizes.
We had a fantastic time at Brunch today! Great menu- it was impossible to choose what to order, and based on the amazing food we had, I think it would be impossible to go wrong!
Fried eggplant was good, croquettes were bland 🙁, the ravioli was outrageously life-affirming amazing and totally saved the night, the Alla bastia pizza was bland. 😞 Oh and Ally's cocktails were off. The. Chain. That smoked reposado!?!?! REEEdonkulous.
I had Hersh's on my list for awhile and we finally made it here. When a restaurant is on my list, it has got to live up to the vision in my head. They were very accommodating and seated us upstairs as we had a group with children which was perfect. The server was efficient and friendly. We decided on salad and pizza and it was tasty. The salad had a nice blend of baby lettuces, foccacia crispy crumbs, onions and a creamy based dressing. We ordered 3 pizzas: margherita (one of the best I have tasted - fresh flavor with chewy crust), il abbruzzo (hefty amount of sausage and broccoli rabe with some bitterness to balance out the fat) and pepperoni-oni. (spicy sweet peppers with a generous amount of quality pepperoni). Everything was great including the selection of beverages. It was a nice evening and it lived up to the hype.
My new favorite pizza in Baltimore. Amazing!!! My friend said the salad was amazing too. My drink was so so and dessert was ok but he pizza is out of this world.
One of the hidden gems in the Baltimore dining scene. Highly recommended!
Nice Mediterranean fare, homemade pizzas, great drinks.
I’m a regular at hersh’s, because the food, service and beverages are wonderful. My experiences are always great and I will continue to support this gem at the southernmost point of light street.
Fantastic food, friendly service. Our waitress was great, but also seemed to be assigned to a few too many tables, which meant we had to wait quite a while to order (not her fault). Very noisy (echoing acoustics). Would happily return again for some of the best Italian food in Baltimore - creative dishes that stay true to proper technique and the soul of Italian cuisine, executed to perfection.
The food was delicious. You can tell the pasta was homemade.
Our favorite dishes were the Asparagus antipasti and Little Shannon’s Little Gem salad - absolutely delicious! The Il Abruzo pizza was also perfection. We will definitely go back!
Food and service were both amazing as usual!! Can’t wait to return!
My favorite restaurant in all the land.
Absolutely delicious!!! We were with a group of 5, and each person LOVED their meal. The cauliflower appetizer was a favorite. Thank you for wonderful service, as always!
After my most recent dining experience at Hersh's, I feel compelled to write another review. This is one of the best restaurants overall in Federal Hill! The atmosphere is cozy, the service is friendly and competent, and the food is tasty. Prices are totally reasonable. Great for date night, family dinner or a group outing. Or just sit at the bar and get a pizza!
The pasta dishes were delicious and we loved the cauliflower appetizer. It was 1/2 bottle discounts for wine and we had a wonderful Rosso di Montalcino. The pasta that was so good was the Heart-beet fettuccine and Tagliolini.
Must have a reservation or you will be stuck at the bar.
Very delicious food!
Favorite restaurant in Baltimore!! Every dish is exceptional.
Yum! The meatballs were beyond. Also the gem salad was a winner. Really delicious!
Service was great, food was wonderful as always.
Food & cocktails were fabulous! Highly recommended!
We had a lovely time here. It was perfect for my niece’s birthday. This is one of our favorite places!!
One of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore! They are always changing their menu up. Everything is always delicious.
Small upscale menu, great happy hour bar choices, homemade pasta. Will definitely return
This little neighborhood gem offered a small but select set of Italian pasta, pizza and salads. Each was carefully prepared with a unique spin such as a spun feta dressed young lettuce salad with focaccia crumbles and dates. The Pizza was offered a tasty thin crust with a choice of red or white base and toppings. We would love to return to taste the pasta at another time- hold our table!
