Herringbone - Santa Monica

The quality was average, presentation was great. Overall, I would go again for the ambiance and the crab cakes!
One of my favorites when in LA
The location was amazing in Santa Monica. I would say having been to the Herringbone in La Jolla that this one had an equally nice interior, but just okay food. The ambiance is great for groups, dates and very picturesque overall. I will come back for the seafood as I believe that is their strong suit. Staff were amazing and very attentive and kind. Definitely recommend!
Great food. Too pricy
The ambience at this location is very nice, we were delighted. A bit on the noisy side but the food made up for it; delicious, succulent dishes. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer, lovely.
It was a birthday dinner for my girlfriend. We shared appetizers, had drinks, and then ended w coffee and the strawberry olive ice cream shortcake. Food was delicious; however, the noise level was incredibly loud, making it hard to converse as we had to lean in and repeat ourselves. I’m not sure I will return because of this...
Service is attentive, food was underwhelming, but patio and interior decorating are fun. Would come back for oyster happy hour and drinks!
We had a fantastic experience - the food was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Nice place. Do not bring children. No kids menus or mini portions
Basically the food is overpriced. It tries to have that "wow" factor with nicely plated meals, but it just doesn't really cut it. The menu is varied but quite limited. It's like one meat dish (expensive), one salmon dish, and a couple of other entrees. The Caesar salad was quite good and the croutons are almost little loaves of bread. The service was okay. So this is a decent place, but there are so many restaurants in Santa Monica, I would just go elsewhere and not recommend to a friend.
I’ve eaten At Herringbone multiple times for the oyster happy hour. Decided to go for dinner this time. Made a reservation and asked for an Ocean Ave window table. Arrived and they put us by the kitchen door next to a very large party. We had to move to a bar table. So much for romantic dinner. Our server was pleasant so we brushed off the table situation. We ordered a dozen large oysters. Kitchen brought out a dozen small-mid size. I ordered the sea bass. While it was good - this 3 x 3 morsel cost $37. Bottom-line the kitchen is scrimping on food portions and for the price I expected better. Plenty of great restaurants on Ocean Ave - I’ll be going to one of them next time.
Got to brunch early and initially were the only ones in the restaurant for a party of 10. It was useful because the noise wasn’t so bad for the older people in our group. The brunch menu is unique, so if you were looking for a just standard fare like omelets this is probably not the right place. The pancake was insanely good. Everyone was happy with their choices.
Great place, unfortunately our waitress was not the most friendly or professional.... but regardless of her.... the seafood pasta so Delicious!!
Overpriced for portion and quality
food was delish, professional, courteous and friendly service. Will return for sure.
Great service and even better food 😋
The atmosphere was great and the seafood was pretty fresh. Some of the dishes were a little confusing as to why those ingredients were put together but the individual flavors were good.
Very tasty food.
Disappointed with food; very average and not what we expected after reading reviews Waitress was Ok, however received appetizer which we did NOT order and could not find someone to correct problem easily. Restaurant was over half empty and yet the noise level was loud. Will not go back.
scallops were my fav! for a Monday night dineLA with my big sister. 2 chocolate chip cookies... with ice cream.. could have been better with more ice cream. or a second choice of dessert..
This is my second time and the food is delicious... fresh fish and taste delicious. The drinks are super fun and flavorful. Love it
Dine LA menu is delicious!! We also ordered the seafood pasta which was also very good. The manager Heather was amazing and has great customer service. We will be going back!
Every course delicious and our server was wonderful. There were 6 of us and she was on top of everything for our table. We sat at one of the largest tables away from the bar. Happy Hour going on and very noisy.
Next time we may try sitting outside as it looks pleasant and maybe not so noisy. We all had LAeats menu and then chose some individual appetizers that we know we like. The sushi whole fish is wonderful and so is the octopus. The LAeats a bargain at $49. All the choices of the 3 courses were yummy. Thanks Herringbone for a lovely evening.
The ricotta pancakes taste like regular pancakes they’re hard hard to cut and they have a lot of seafood if that’s what you’re looking for.
A limited but more than adequate brunch menu. The ambiance is excellent and the food good but not revelatory. I have been to brunch twice and enjoyed it both times. When considering a brunch restaurant in the Venice area, I would definitely consider going back to Herringbone.
Just wow! Delicious food & great service. It was a bit loud but still amazing. Would definitely recommend going here and ordering a seafood platter.
I came back to this restaurant after a great dineLA experience last year. This time, I was not so impressed. Our waitress Nara was nice and provided us with great service but the value and the food was not so great. My seabass was so salty that the salt was overpowering all the other flavors. The crab cake was good but I would have liked a little bit more sauce with it. The prawns flavors were good but I would have preferred for them to come already peeled. For the desert they give 2 chocolate cookies as part of dineLA experience, which were not bad but I would have a preferred a piece of cake or something. It was impossible to be inside because the noise level was off the charts, we could hear each other at all so we chose to seat outside but the night was quite chilly. Overall, not bad but not amazing.
Best meal in Santa Monica. Service was great, eveowas tasty...only downside...it is really noisy so tough for conversations
We've driven by Herringbone many times, but never found a reason to go in - we are primarily lunch eaters, and they don't serve lunch during the week, but this year's DineLA dinner menu was too good to pass up. It was absolutely by far the best dining experience we had during DineLA, and possibly altogether in years. Alonna was our server, and she was kind, smart, attentive, and more than happy to find answers to even our strangest questions and concerns. The food was fantastic - every bite - and the atmosphere was both charming and comfortable. We came as early as we could for the dinner menu, so it was pretty quiet for us - I don't know what it's like when it's more crowded. And it was pricey, yes, as is their regular menu, but now that we know how good their food is - perfectly cooked prawns, amazing diver scallops and an utterly fantastic striped bass, among other things - we will definitely be coming back for more, any and every time we have a special occasion that merits a fabulous time.
Everything was perfect. My boyfriend and I look forward to visiting again sometime soon.
Service is excellent. Food is decent at half the price of what is being charged. The prices here are way over reasonable market value. The portion sizes are small. We left hungry even with a 3 course meal. This is even more maddening after you get the bill.
Both of the hostesses that night were incapable of answering simple questions and were very rude on top of that.
Brunch was delicious. Excellent service. Beautiful place.
It was a good and chill place, but it was missing something. Maybe some music, the portions sizes and a little more flavor.
Such an enjoyable experience, we had so much fun
Music was too loud, but food is great!
Excellent restaurant. Modern Californian very innovative cuisine.
Family of 10 looking for a good but affordable option in Santa Monica. Yelp rated the affordability 💲💲but with $17 salads, $19 cocktails and $35 pork chops, this was a 💲💲💲 choice. We had already given them our VISA to confirm our reservation and had walked a long distance so dined there, but left with mixed feelings and half way full bellys.
