Expensive but good. The lobster roll was wayyyy better than the crab cakes. Mimosas never emptied. My boyfriend was mimosa drunk all day so that was successful. Great for our big group. Also, the fries were delicious and the kid's menu was big portions.
Food and cocktails were delicious, our waiter was polite, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, atmosphere was perfect for a nice evening out
Great! Food was amazinng
Food was nasty
I have been to Herringbone a few times now. All of my previous visits were for Oyster Hour, which is fun, a great price and an overall outstanding value. So I thought I'd try dinner. It was a series of fails. And I will never eat dinner there again. My server was outstanding and he was a pleasure to work with. The food was abysmal. The baby artichoke appetizer was almost inedible. They were very poorly trimmed and we all got poked by the sharp points on the leaves, AND we each had to spit out leaves that were too tough to chew. My scallops were cooking nicely but the sauce and the random cranberries in the bowl were weird and not good. My friend ordered the striped bass and I could smell the sour, fishy smell from across the table. He tasted it and said it was bad - then we all tasted it and sent it back. It was beyond bad - super fishy and sour. He didn't order anything else. My other friend ordered the Seafood Pasta and there wasn't any sauce on the pasta. It was pasta, a dash of sauce enough to color the pasta and then random seafood scattered throughout the bowl. She did not finish it. To top it off, I had checked their available online menu before dinner - I was celebrating and was gifted a bottle of Veuve and wanted to share it at dinner. Their current list of wines by the bottle is NOT available online, so I brought my bottle and then upon checking in for my table, I asked the hostess if it was ok to bring my own and pay the corkage fee. She said it wasn't a problem. As soon as we're seated the server comes over and tells me that his manager just told him that since they sell bottles of Veuve in the restaurant, they can't open MY bottle. I say - "Well you don't have the list of bottles available online." He says, "You are correct. It's because the list changes all the time." So essentially, you're telling me that there is no way I could have figured out what you're serving without coming in. So we didn't open my bottle. yeah, worst dinner in ages.
Meh food. Hard to find waitor.
Nice restaurant, food was very tasty and fresh, table was nice and comfortable. Service was good, waitress was very attentive. Enjoyed the meal and left happy.
Great oyster happy hour, delicious drinks & really cool decor. Note that the happy hour is only available in the bar area!
After all day of traveling from the east coast, we were ready for a relaxing evening. We sat at the bar to start and enjoyed their specialty cocktails and “one buck shuck” oysters. They were awesome! We then moved to the dining room where we enjoyed artichokes, pear and Gorgonzola salad and sea bass. I would skip the artichokes next time but everything else was fantastic! Our waiter was also terrific.
Birthday for our
We arrived early and had drinks at the bar. Very attentive, TV’s had the popular games on , no sound so it was nice to talk with my guest without distractions. We also enjoyed the conversation with our bartender so decided to have dinner at the bar. They had a prix fixed menu reasonably priced and full regular menu. I’m vegetarian so they had many options and I also asked for custom preparations which were accommodated. My boyfriend is a meat eater and oyster lover he had both and enjoyed everything. Cocktails were delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant for a laid back casual or a semi formal date.
The quality was average, presentation was great. Overall, I would go again for the ambiance and the crab cakes!
One of my favorites when in LA
The location was amazing in Santa Monica. I would say having been to the Herringbone in La Jolla that this one had an equally nice interior, but just okay food. The ambiance is great for groups, dates and very picturesque overall. I will come back for the seafood as I believe that is their strong suit. Staff were amazing and very attentive and kind. Definitely recommend!
Great food. Too pricy
The ambience at this location is very nice, we were delighted. A bit on the noisy side but the food made up for it; delicious, succulent dishes. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer, lovely.
It was a birthday dinner for my girlfriend. We shared appetizers, had drinks, and then ended w coffee and the strawberry olive ice cream shortcake. Food was delicious; however, the noise level was incredibly loud, making it hard to converse as we had to lean in and repeat ourselves. I’m not sure I will return because of this...
Service is attentive, food was underwhelming, but patio and interior decorating are fun. Would come back for oyster happy hour and drinks!
We had a fantastic experience - the food was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Nice place. Do not bring children. No kids menus or mini portions
Basically the food is overpriced. It tries to have that "wow" factor with nicely plated meals, but it just doesn't really cut it. The menu is varied but quite limited. It's like one meat dish (expensive), one salmon dish, and a couple of other entrees. The Caesar salad was quite good and the croutons are almost little loaves of bread. The service was okay. So this is a decent place, but there are so many restaurants in Santa Monica, I would just go elsewhere and not recommend to a friend.
I’ve eaten At Herringbone multiple times for the oyster happy hour. Decided to go for dinner this time. Made a reservation and asked for an Ocean Ave window table. Arrived and they put us by the kitchen door next to a very large party. We had to move to a bar table. So much for romantic dinner. Our server was pleasant so we brushed off the table situation. We ordered a dozen large oysters. Kitchen brought out a dozen small-mid size. I ordered the sea bass. While it was good - this 3 x 3 morsel cost $37. Bottom-line the kitchen is scrimping on food portions and for the price I expected better. Plenty of great restaurants on Ocean Ave - I’ll be going to one of them next time.
Got to brunch early and initially were the only ones in the restaurant for a party of 10. It was useful because the noise wasn’t so bad for the older people in our group. The brunch menu is unique, so if you were looking for a just standard fare like omelets this is probably not the right place. The pancake was insanely good. Everyone was happy with their choices.
Great place, unfortunately our waitress was not the most friendly or professional.... but regardless of her.... the seafood pasta so Delicious!!
Overpriced for portion and quality
food was delish, professional, courteous and friendly service. Will return for sure.
Great service and even better food 😋
The atmosphere was great and the seafood was pretty fresh. Some of the dishes were a little confusing as to why those ingredients were put together but the individual flavors were good.
Very tasty food.
Disappointed with food; very average and not what we expected after reading reviews Waitress was Ok, however received appetizer which we did NOT order and could not find someone to correct problem easily. Restaurant was over half empty and yet the noise level was loud. Will not go back.
scallops were my fav! for a Monday night dineLA with my big sister. 2 chocolate chip cookies... with ice cream.. could have been better with more ice cream. or a second choice of dessert..
This is my second time and the food is delicious... fresh fish and taste delicious. The drinks are super fun and flavorful. Love it
Dine LA menu is delicious!! We also ordered the seafood pasta which was also very good. The manager Heather was amazing and has great customer service. We will be going back!
Every course delicious and our server was wonderful. There were 6 of us and she was on top of everything for our table. We sat at one of the largest tables away from the bar. Happy Hour going on and very noisy.
Next time we may try sitting outside as it looks pleasant and maybe not so noisy. We all had LAeats menu and then chose some individual appetizers that we know we like. The sushi whole fish is wonderful and so is the octopus. The LAeats a bargain at $49. All the choices of the 3 courses were yummy. Thanks Herringbone for a lovely evening.
The ricotta pancakes taste like regular pancakes they’re hard hard to cut and they have a lot of seafood if that’s what you’re looking for.
A limited but more than adequate brunch menu. The ambiance is excellent and the food good but not revelatory. I have been to brunch twice and enjoyed it both times. When considering a brunch restaurant in the Venice area, I would definitely consider going back to Herringbone.
Just wow! Delicious food & great service. It was a bit loud but still amazing. Would definitely recommend going here and ordering a seafood platter.
