We came for a once in a lifetime experience and left very satisfied. The full tasting menu with wine pairings was a masterful blend of adventures in molecular gastronomy, new twists on classic dishes, and unique wines. There are not many places in the world where you can find a meal like this.
Our meal was delicious. I ordered a salad and a tuna small plate. The tuna was good but honestly was a little bit lacking in the flavor department. The salad however was outstanding. Every time I go to herons it’s like I can read the menu description and think I know what I’m getting, but really what I get is what I expected but elevated to a new level. The service was excellent as usual!
5 Star for sure!
We come here about 3-4 times a year and every time we are blown away not only by the food but by the service. There is nowhere else in NC that comes close Heron’s. With 3 small children we rarely get nights out. We look at other restaurants but inevitably decide that nothing will ever be as good as Herons. Thank you for always providing not only a meal but an experience.
My salmon was fantastic. The pasta dish I wanted to get was not as good as my salmon. It had too many noodles for me. I should have had more mushrooms as I looked at the others plate.
The waitress got slammed with other tables and could not give us full attention. That was a
little disappointing. One in the party ordered dessert. It looked very very good. It was a beautiful presentation, too.
Kaiseki was delightful and kept us our edge. Every course exceeded my expectations. Quick tour of the kitchen and meeting Chef Green was an amazing experience. See you again very soon.
The food was artistic but generally salty. I felt very full from drinking too much water to wash down the salt. Service was good although our waiter disappeared towards the end, not sure what happened.
Simply put. Amazing
The food was phenomenal and the wait staff outstanding. It's a beautiful restaurant in an elegant hotel in a stunning setting! If the sweet potato dessert is on the menu, it's a must have. The entire meal was sensory overload in taste and presentation.
My wife and I enjoyed the Kaiseki tasting with wine parings. The food presentation was exquisite and the service was beyond reproach. All staff members, even those who were not part of our amazing dining team, were above attentive. Price was inline with similar restaurants, but I felt the quality and presentation push this to be a better value than similar restaurants.
The ambiance and decor were the only things that I felt were lacking that amazing feel. If you walked in, you wouldn't realize that you're in one of the top 68 restaurants in the US. Everything was above average, but you're in the ground floor of a hotel, with windows out into a wooded area. The kitchen was displayed, but behind a wall of glass so it lost a bit of that open kitchen feel. It just felt like an average hotel restaurant. Small touches common to other five diamond restaurants, and in fact some four diamond restaurants were missing.
Now, with the bad out of the way, the food and service were amazing. The amuse bouche, the tableside preparation of hot tea as an apertif, as well the quality and creativeness in both making dishes that played with all of your senses, and even strove to fool your senses, is where this restaurant makes its mark. I cannot stress that the long tasting menu is pretty much the requirement here to enjoy everything Chef and his team prepare. Impeccable service, wait staff who can read and react to their guests, and curiously non standard but perfectly matched wine pairing selections are hallmarks of what you can expect from the staff and for me complete this restaurant's well deserved five diamond experience. I would not hesitate to return and would not hesitate to recommend others enjoy this fine dining experience.
The appetizer and meal were exquisite. We also enjoyed the blended juices and waiter. It was a lovely experience, and we will definitely be back!
Absolutely fantastic experience. I had breakfast here and would recommend that to anyone wishing for a calm, peaceful experience and outstanding food. Omelette was perfectly done and lighter than air. Açaí bowl was flavorful and exceptional. Thank you for far exceeding expectations!
The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the ambience is outstanding.
The food was very well prepared and delicious, so I will definitely visit Herons again.
Herons was a phenomenal dining experience. Attention to detail in every course combined with best in class service!
The food was sadly underwhelming, especially for the price we paid for brunch (over $100 for two people). My $14 cocktail tasted watered down, duck croquettes were dry and bland, eggs were way overcooked on the benedict and there was not much hollandaise on top with the only accompaniment being a small slice of tomato. My husband enjoyed his burger but never got the onions he requested as a topping. I was surprised at how long dirty dishes stayed in front of us despite the restaurant being sparsely seated. Dessert was the only redeeming factor. It was a special occasion and overall a really disappointing experience.
Food, service, ambience etc. were just amazing! One of the best meals ever!
Excellent service, beautiful presentation, delicious gourmet food!
Requested a special seating for a specific reason. Was wonderfully accommodated and was asked if expectations were met, which were in a spectacular way. This was my third visit, and my intentions are to visit often!!! Food and service and ambience have always been exceptional.
Valentine’s Day very romantic atmosphere
Honestly, disappointed. We have dined here a number of time- but that last time was 4 years ago- All were amazing experiences. Dinner was good. Presentations were beautiful. Flavors were underwhelming. I had the abalone- flavorless, other than the chewy fishy tasting fish. My husband had the ricotta crab- also disappointing. Foie gras was excellent, entrees were good, but not near the same class of Herons of the past. Sommelier and wait staff were outstanding, but for the price and the experience we were looking for and expecting, we will chose to go elsewhere.
Dinners here are very expensive so we went to lunch. For $80 we got two appetizers, two main courses and a desert. Every one was epic. We got to see what they could do without the big bill.
Our night before wedding meal was so amazing that we came back for Valentine's Day. It was amazing!!
It was wonderful!
Beautiful restaurant in a stunning hotel. Great food, service and ambiance. Formal without being stuffy. Menu is traditional yet inventive.
Somelia was fantastic, and really explained the wines that were being served.
Food was great.
Exceptional!
I am well-versed at dining at this establishment as my wedding reception was at this hotel. Seems to have gone slightly downhill as far as service and.. The chair that I was originally sitting in had Dried coffee all over it. Seems like the bare minimum is going unnoticed.
Fabulous. A truly memorable experience.
Our food was wonderful. I had the kale salad with shrimp. The shrimp were large and very tasty. My friend had the sea bass and she said it too was very good. We shared the sweet potato dessert which came in a small glass terrarium type bowl. The presentation was amazing. The taste was very different but enjoyable.
The service and food were both phenomenal. Fantastic presentation of the food and an amazing experience. It could not have been any better!
Of the 8 or 9 times I've dined at Heron's this was probably the best. Presentation of entrees was beautiful and creative and the desserts were beyond comparison. Simply gorgeous.
Heron’s is a world class restaurant. Every detail has been designed and orchestrated for an exceptional experience. An international contender that should show up on the Michelin list pretty soon.
We enjoyed brunch and have done so on several different occasions. It has always been delicious. Service was excellent. Love that they offer local products even the coffee. Brunch is a better fit for my budget than dinner. Also, they make everything so special right down to the flowers on the tables. Highly recommend.
There is nothing better than a meal at Herons. The service staff is extraordinary. The food is sublime. Ambiance is wonderful.
Met a girlfriend for lunch. We had a delightful time. The service was impeccable though it did take a little time to get out iced tea. The food was amazing. I had the butternut squash soup and crab salad. The food was well seasoned and super fresh. Loved the apple in the soup and the fried scallions on the salad. Very refreshing. I will definitely be back!
We love Herons and we have dined before . We were celebrating our anniversary and decided to go to Herons. The food is amazing , the place is stunning and the service very good but a few little things were not Herons standard. I ordered steak and eggs, the steak took longer than usual because the first time it was over cooked so the chef made a new one but the wait was longer. I also ordered wheat toast and never got them. The sugar bowl was stained, it wasn’t impeccable.
We go for all our special occasions
Reservation was for 9:30...supposedly sold out for brunch. Had requested a later time, with no avail. Not seated until after 10:00. Service good but very slow kitchen, with half the tables empty. Took an unusually long time to get served.
Fabulous experience as always. The only small complaint the waitress wasn't able to properly describe the wines.
