Herons Ratings and Reviews
Herons top chef always creates quality food presented as art. Servers and staff are outstanding. The floral arrangements and art in the hotel make this restaurant a joy to visit. Great place to meet people from all over the Triangle and dine before flights from RDU.
This was my first visit to Herons so I didn’t know what to expect. Wow was I surprised! This was the best dining experience I have had in a very long time. Everything was amazing from the service, the wine selection, to the food! It is obvious there is a ton of thought put into every detail! Looking forward to the next visit to try the new menu, that changes every 3 months.
Herons is consistently an elegant choice for dining. The ingredients and style of preparation of food is art itself. The flowers and décor are gorgeous. On top of that, the service is lovely.
On my most recent visit this month, I had the crab cakes, and my friend selected the lobster roll with fries--both excellent.
My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here. It was on Halloween night, and the restaurant was nearly empty. We each had a fabulous four course meal with wine pairings. It was the best dining experience we have had in our lives! It does come with a cost, but it is worth every penny if you are looking for excellent food, exquisite presentation, and knowledgeable waitstaff.
The quality of the food is outstanding and beautifully presented. Service and accommodation to my special diet requests were appreciated. The beauty of the art collections, and the fall floral designs on this visit were visually stunning. The landscape of the hotel interior and exterior are a pleasure to behold. I had the steak which was perfectly done, and my friend shared with me a taste of her crab cakes which were wonderfully prepared. This is a favorite choice for my dining in the Triangle.
Very classy place with superb service. If you like elegant food with great presentation this is your place. A little too much show and not enough substance for me. Would rather spend the same money at the Capital grill or Ferrington House.
The hostess set the tone and it wasn’t a good one. We should have turned around and gone to the Waffle House! While the wait staff was pleasant and the decor on point, the flatware was dirty, the food was over salted,
and my 62 degree egg wasn’t prepared properly
What an amazing dining experience! Everything was perfection. Started at the bar for pre-dinner cocktails that were expertly crafted, then 3 course dinner with amazing wine. The service was impeccable. We sat outside, such a beautiful evening.
I made a mistake adjusting the way the Chef prepared and presented the brioche French Toast. My choices did not improve the taste at all
I would never do that again
Also the de-caf coffee tasted ok. But it was not hot enough
Also I would never order smoked bacon again
Very very salty
The environment is beautiful - a nice combination of elegance and relaxation. The service was exceptional, too. The food descriptions were whimsical and often left a lot to the imagination - take advantage of the server’s knowledge, otherwise it’s just a vague flavor profile you’re ordering (and thy all seemed super knowledgeable). The food was very good, though it seemed apparent the emphasis is slightly more on presentation. Portion sizes are small, so don’t hesitate to take advantage of each course offering. Beautiful restaurant and even more beautiful food.
The ambience is sophisticated.....the service is exceptional...the food presentation is elegant..the food and wine were interesting but not particularly memorable..ours was a special anniversary celebration and for that it fit the bill...Given is pricing, however, I doubt we would consider it for a normal Saturday night out...
A remarkable meal by all measures. The oysters were amazing, as well as the foie and the steak. The "perfume" dessert was surprising, light and floral. The dishes were highly technical and executed perfectly. Can't wait to go back.
Best dining experience ever. A great birthday celebration; service, presentation, taste and texture were superb. Prix Fixe menu has a good selection plus there are terrific treats between the courses. Don't leave off dessert- some interesting uses of liquid nitrogen.
Heron's lives up to its 5 star rating.
Food was delicious. I wish I could say the same for the service and the ambiance. We've had various great dining experiences in the Triangle, nationally, and internationally. I would've hoped a restaurant with these bonafides (and price tag) would have stacked up. However, we had atrocious service -- soaking wet tablecloth and no attempt to move us, give us a new cloth, or any kind of attempt to make the situation better (would have preferred the bar), slowest meal coursing I have ever experienced (50 min before first food and at least 30 before a drink other than water was brought -- had to ask for it, was never offered), and the restaurant had very loud, obviously drunken patrons speaking so loudly it was impossible to dine comfortably. We did enjoy the food, but the other issues and the timing of the meal were too much. I would have loved to have left in the first 30 min, but they charge a $50 fee! for any reservation cancellation within 24 hrs -- we were their hostages.
Hats off to our Service Professional, Scott Hoppmann! He made our dining experience the best we have ever had. I was very impressed that he took note on my Open Table reservation where I asked how the foie gras was prepared, that it was Ras' birthday and the foie gras was an important part of the meal. He made it very personal and directed the preparation and description to Ras. PERFECT~ He was very knowledgeable about the menu, wines, paring, etc. The food was to die for - presentation was very impressive. We went with the 3 and 4 course with wine paring option and it was the best decision we could have made. We will return to Herons and we will request Scott Hoppmann again! Thank you all for making this birthday celebration a memorable one. We will be back!
