Hermanos Restaurant - Exchange District Ratings and Reviews
We went to Herman's for a belated Valentine's dinner .... The ambience is very nice, the live music was excellent, the steak was great. We had a fine time. we ordered a steak + crab combo...and -if I could change something - we should have ordered the crab in advance of the meat because it's time consuming to break the crab legs while your meat gets cold.
Tends to be a little on the pricey side but I love to take my wife (and sometimes the whole family) there for a special occasion. One of our favorite spots in the city.
Been here before and had the BEST steak everrrr! I've never had a "melt-in-your mouth" steak like it before. Went back this year expecting the same, and even had 2 others who generally don't eat beef much, order it. We were all disappointed. There was hard gristle (sp?) in the steak and we all had to spit a few pieces out.
I wasn’t impressed that we had to look at a table full of half eaten food for 15 minutes after the people left. We were sitting along the back wall so the table was very close to us. We’ve been here before for tapas and I actually enjoy the taps more than the actual dinners. All
I ordered the Paletta it was spicy but excellent .My wife ordered the shrimp it was good. The desert we ordered was a big disappointment for what we paid for it .It was the apple crepe with carmel sauce very small portion also ordered the ice cream as a extra for $2 but they give you the smallest dish i ever seen,it would fit in a table spoon.Very expensive deserts for what you receive .
It was extremely busy Friday night. We were 15 minutes late arriving due to traffic.- arrived at 5:45 pm. We told the waitress that we were going to MTC for a 7:30 pm event. Ordered quickly as she suggested. Our food did not arrive until 7:10 pm. We asked for our bill at the time our food arrived. To save time. The salmon special tasted " off" to one of our party. The waitress did remove the salmon cost from our total bill.
It was an extremely loud & rushed dinner. I would not return.
We were quickly accommodated even though a few minutes late due to weather and traffic. Server was prompt, friendly, timely, and knowledgable. Menu was great and varied, food was really good although there was some spicy seasoning on the corn I wasn't expecting - not into spicy much - doesn't agree with me. Great experience overall, my only criticism was it was really noisy - difficult to have dinner conversation without yelling. I would still highly recommend Hermano's!
Four friends went to Hermanos out of curiosity, and spurred by a gift-card discount offer found at Costco. We loved the waiters showing up at the table with long skewers of meat. Side dishes were tasty and varied. Only recommendation: there was a single small card per table, to be used to request a visit from a server with a skewer, its flip side indicating that no server is needed just now... we would prefer if each person at the table could have their own card.
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and cared for. Our server was attentive, had a great sense of humour and was encouraging of our choices. The food was exceptional and fulfilling, more than enough to enjoy. I especially enjoyed the way the beef was prepared and surrounded by local fresh vegetables
When you don't want to eat steak ... which Hermanos serves lots of ... the restaurant offers some very tasty 'other' choices. I had paella which was just great - bit spicy, with lots of shrimp, mussels, chicken and sausage in a nice tomato sauce. My husband has a seafood soup, served in a lovely pottery bowl - lots of seafood with a few slices of crusty bread. Off in another corner of the restaurant were two musicians playing some lovely Brazilian music. It was perfect.
The only thing missing was not being able to get a double expresso to finish the evening off.
The first few times we dined at Hermano’s the food was very good. Unfortunately, the past 3 visits, the food hasn’t been up to previous standards. Steak was tough, gringo burger was very greasy and Calamari wasn’t as tender and lacked flavour. Not sure how they are still getting a high overall rating. When you read other reviews there are several with similar concerns about the quality of the food. Sorry, but won’t go back.
I booked on line and that was very easy. The staff was very nice and friendly. The waitress that looked after us made suggestions and answered all our questions. The food (appetizer and entrees) were excellent and not overly expensive, great value for great food.
Hermanos is a very nice restaurant that I call upon for special occasions. I love the proximity to the concert hall as well as the other many theatres in the area. Great for finding a good parking spot near the downtown venues. Although because of that it can be quite busy there as well.
