I’ve been here a lot and it’s always amazing food. We waited almost 20 min before a server came to table and another table that was seated 30 min after us got there appetizers first. So we were a little disappointed in the service on this occasion. But I think because there was a large party near us it put a lot of things behind.

The food was creative and very good. The servers were mostly friendly and attentive but not on top of their game. For example they brought three soups when four were ordered and asked at least three times are you sure you need another soup? The corkage fee of $3/person is ridiculously high.

I have been here several times. Never had an issue with the food or service, until today. If you are going to open up a new section it’s important to keep the Ambiance the same and ensure you are properly staffed to accommodate. Should not have to wait 15-20 mins before the waiter comes to the table. If I have a reservation i should have not been set to be in the “new” secluded room when others that walked in get a choice.

This is our second time dining at Herb and we have loved both times! The food is excellent, the service is friendly, and the ambiance is great. The individuals at Herb have a lot of pride in the experience they are providing, and they absolutely should. It's a great dining experience no matter the reason.

First time here so did not know what to expect, but in the end the food fell very short and as a result it was not a good value.

Most of the dishes were beautifully presented however the taste was quite bland, except for the soups. There was nothing interesting about the flavor unlike which is unusual for a Thai menu. This made the $250 for 4 people bill feel unjustified considering this is a BYOB place and this was just food that we ordered.

I will gladly skip and happily go to a place like ATK or TAC Quick for a low key/fantastic Thai dishes.

Although this is an upscale concept the execution is somewhat lacking. Service is courteous but lacking refinement. The food ranged from great to average. The soundtrack was a short, repeated sad-feeling loop. Both a delight and a disappointment.

The team at Herb is welcoming. The ambiance is serene and lovely. We left with feelings of joy from the kindness and sincerity from our interaction with Chef Patty and Colleen. The food's appearance is very inviting, all ingredients are carefully researched and selected by Chef Patty...and the flavors explode in your mouth. Truly a divinely delicious and memorable dining experience that will inspire you to return again and again!

I liked Herb but felt for the price point it wasn't as bombastic as I expected. I also didn't appreciate a corkage fee per person when they are BYOB. I feel like I've had just as good Thai food at other places for a quarter of the price. Sure, these were plated nicely and all that but still... hard to justify the cost. The curries we got were excellent but my tofu main course was surprisingly bland - it had a one-note spice level and that was about it, no depth of flavor. For the money, I expect every dish to knock my socks off.

Nicely designed restaurant. Food was food. Slightly above standard Thai fare. Attentive waitstaff working with horribly inefficient kitchen. Over 30 minutes to take order after server told us kitchen was running behind and ill prepared for at capacity restaurant patrons. Didn’t get any better after that. Two and half hours for three courses. I will never go back there again.

The appetizers and mushroom soup were excellent. The tofu and vegetable entree was average at most. They need to come up with a vegetarian entree that hits it out of the park like the first two courses.

My son and I each did the 5 course fixed price and turned chef loose, but with restriction that me son could not eat coconut. She adapted his menu and even bumped spice level up for him. Servers try hard to accommodate the byob clientele and make your experience fun. Chef even sent me out a cup of some of her Mariage Frères private stock while she made up my tea. She also came out to meet us after our meal. Great experience and top Thai done is artistic presentation.

Herb is a beautiful restaurant offering a classy dining option that manifests the ethnic diversity of the Edgewater neighborhood. Our lead server was had warm energy and put our flowers in water while we dined. Her runners were slightly less polished, but nonetheless nice and alert to our needs. Flavors and textures were varied and diverse throughout the menu. Herb is BYOB, but we opted to enjoy a fresh lemongrass-based iced tea with our meal. We both elected to go with the 3-item prix fixe, but could have gone 5-3 to have experienced more items. Betel leaf satchels came as an amuse-bouche from the kitchen and were a novel eating experience that we would repeat. The crispy shrimp was fun to eat and fresh. Both the tumeric mushroom trio and tangy chicken soups were good and offered contrasting flavor profiles. We paid extra for the beef and fish entrees and I think were more well-served by the fish than the beef. Even going just 3-3, we did not feel the need for dessert.

Herb is the only restaurant I’ve recommended in Chicago to anyone in the last year. The two times I’ve been there have both been extremely memorable. I like the simplicity of the menu and the impressive presentation. I don’t use social media, but I’d I did, I would unabashedly post pictures of each plate!
