Amazing food and service!
There was a hair in the bread and I was asked if it was my hair. Found hair was blond and short, and I have long black hair. The 4 people sitting next to me also have long black hair. My friend ordered the half chicken dish and it was undercooked. Did appreciate that her food was taken back and not charged. It was a busy night so the service was slow.
They don't want to seat you unless your whole party is there. There were two large parties and it was next to impossible to hear the person beside me due to the noise and music level. The server did not return to top up wine or water. 4% tip is included then they recommend another 18% on top of that...brutal.
Best dinner we had in San Diego from apps to pizza to dessert. High energy, fantastic fresh uncomplicated yet over the top food. Top of the list for returns. It’s way noisy—deal with it.
Staff was very friendly and attentive everyone had a good time
We went to Herb & Wood for a graduation celebration and it was perfect. Our food was outstanding (people--get the gnocchi!), Jared was a fantastic server, and the whole staff made our day special with recommendations and sharing information about the restaurant. Wholeheartedly recommend!
This is our first time here. Good ambiance, nice server. BUT not happy of the experience with the hostess. We told her we had a reservation, without saying a word, she just walked away and escorted the other guests instead. When she came back, she completely ignored us. No words, no eye contact. After a few minutes, she escorted us to our table and finally said a few words. But wow, what a first impression.
Always one of my favorite Brunch, lunch and cocktail spots
Tried fine dining area Not a bad place for lunch but very very loud, nearly impossible to have a conversation. Food was great overall but my crab hash was much spacier than I have had anticipated. Not sure if I would want to give this place another try.
I was a little overwhelmed with the noise level, but I was a little older than most of the other patrons.
Of course, the room is huge, so there is going to be noise. Our waitress was energetic, polite and did a good job. We liked her conscientiousness. I could tell she would be a good waitress in any venue.
Would I return? Not on a weekend. This is not the place to go if you are looking for a quiet Sunday breakfast or brunch, but I'd go again, just to give Herb & Wood a second try.
We had a wonderful experience. We made reservations for Sunday brunch to celebrate some birthdays and are so glad we did. We ordered the salmon lox pizza, crab hash, filet & eggs, BLT, polenta & mushroom, and Dutch baby soufflé pancake. All were delicious!!!! Our favorite was the crab hash (mildly spicy) and soufflé pancake. The atmosphere was beautiful and service was friendly. Can’t wait to come back for dinner!!!
Really enjoyed the atmosphere, beautiful space, and they got us seated fairly close to our reservation time. The staff was friendly, and the menu was unique, we loved the venison.
Great atmosphere, service, wine selection & food. Given how busy it was we were afraid the service might be slow, but that wasn’t the case at all. Our waitress was great. We will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends & family. You won’t be disappointed!
Great atmosphere. Cool interior design. Delicious meals. Excellent service.
Food wasn’t great. Too noisy. Service was great. I don’t think we are going back.
I was initially excited to try this restaurant, but my reservation was 'cancelled' when I checked in? I arrived 10 minutes early to my reservation and was one of the few people waiting to get seated. I had to double check with the hostess once it was 10 minutes past my reservation time. And found out that my reservation was lost. I was told that it was an issue with the ipads but this is an embarrassing mistake for a restaurant that's been been here for a while. Not a good start to a dinner.
Had the oxtail gnocchi, bone marrow pizza, and chicken liver. All three dishes were overly lemony and acidic. I love a good lemon taste but all three dishes are supposed to be rich in flavor. Chicken liver would have been better off if cooked chicken liver was used and not a pink pate. Did not taste any liver flavor at all, just lemon.
Service was overall great. Had to ask where the last entree was and they immediately brought it out which meant it was sitting ready for a while. Food was great.
My mom and I enjoyed happy hour at he bar. We loved the ambiance. The cocktails were innovative and delicious. We shared avocado toast, meatball sliders, and gnocchi. Everything was so flavorful and satisfying. Chef/owner/cutie-pie, Brian Malarky stopped by our table to welcome us. He was so friendly. Loved seeing how far he’s come since his days on Top Chef. He and his restaurants make San Diego proud.
Food was over seasoned and salty. Limited menu and expensive. Very disappointing since it was a birthday dinner celebration.
Great restaurant. Perfect pace to impress for a date, meeting, etc
What a wonderful experience! I read about the Mother's Day Brunch online and booked it based on the menu. Everything far exceeded our expectations. The service was fabulous, the hostesses were very welcoming and the food was spectacular!! My compliments to the entire staff for putting together such a memorable event... We will be back the next time we are in San Diego and will recommend it to all who ask. Bravo! Herb & Wood!
Wonderful staff. Very attentive and gave us their full attention when discussing the menu and taking our drink orders. Never felt rushed. The bartender were very nice and quick to deliver my Drink. The manager stopped by twice to ensure that our needs were met! We will be back again. Lastly the head chef would take a look at how thing were being handled at each table.
Yes great harmony of food quality and ambience. Had a wonderful date with my girlfriend.
On vacation for my wife’s birthday. Took a shot on this place and it was exceptional in every aspect. Other than spending a fair amount on the meal which I was planning for anyway this place did not disappoint. Would recommend 100 times over.
Service was great at first but after awhile it seems as if they forgot about our table which was kinda of disappointing.
Best restaurant and staff in San Diego.
Atmosphere was very interesting. Located on ‘restaurant row’, it’s located near valet parking for the street. Restaurant is actually located in the back - behind their market / bar / coffee shop. The atmosphere is eclectic / rustic - to give it a farm-to-table theme. The cuisine is American / Continental while offering Iberian ham.
The waiter has a great personality, but he was not on his game. The first 2 wines he suggested were not available. Then he realized that we were given an outdated wine list. But what really upset us - my daughter ordered the Bronzino (while fish) because she is pescatarian. Well, we didn’t realize that it was wrapped in bacon (not mentioned on the menu). So, my wife switched meals with her. Nothing from the waiter - besides a “sorry about that”.
Next time, we’re trying another restaurant. There are too many choices (of restaurants) to put up with that.
The best gluten free menu I have ever seen. Food and service were outstanding.
We arrived early for our reservation and were seated promptly. A very nice gentleman brought us water ... and then we waited... and waited... and after 20 or so minutes with no one returning to take our drink or food order, we left. It was a Sunday night, about 6:30 when we arrived. It was busy but not packed and they seemed to be well staffed. Not exactly sure what was up with the service but it was very disappointing. We were really looking forward to our night here.
Great food and a beautiful venue inside - perfect for business or a fun dinner.
One of the most delicious brunch places! French Onion Omelette and the souffle pancake are amazing!
We went for brunch to Herb & Wood. We shared the dutch baby souffle pancake which was divine. We also had the prosciutto and burrata toast, avocado toast, and banana's foster french toast. Each were good and portions were decent. Our only complaint is in the "outdoor" seating, it's like a greenhouse effect - the sun was out and it wasn't even 70* outside, but inside we were sweating. There was no air flow and it felt so hot. That made us rush to eat and leave. Otherwise, we enjoyed our time there.
Brunch is just ok. Dinner is average compare to other places nearby. Herb and eatery has a much better brunch/breakfast items.
Nice Dutch Baby Soufflé, but there is much room to improve in service.
Wonderful as always. Just pricey!
40 min late seating us, aggressive staff and mediocre food
food was very well prepared, so the potential for a really fine meal is there. But the service was very hit and. miss and the coordination between the kitchen, the staff, and the wait time for your meal was sorely lacking
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We had been to Herb & Wood several months prior and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were not disappointed the second time.
