The service is very attentive and the servers and back up staff work well with each other. The prices are ridiculous and reflect a restaurant focused on tourism rather than locals. The food was good but not exquisite. The flavors were not distinct and reflected a premade staleness when it came to the pizza, salad, and potatoes. The scallops were good but one was undercooked. My two dinner mates thought their steak was excellent.
Loved everything!! Drinks and food are delicious and creative.
Great waiter. Forgot his name my bad he is from Boston. So knowledgeable about foot and wine pairing. Didn’t rush us!! The “toasts” where fantastic. And my halibut was ahmazing
Truly an amazing dining experience! Tara our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and gave excellent recommendations. The waitstaff were attentive and our water glasses were constantly being filled. The food was so flavorful. We will be going back again soon!
Charming, tasty, classy, and creative. Wins all around!
Service was outstanding.
Perfect! In every way . Foods amazing & service impecable
We were very pleasantly surprised at our brunch food. It was excellent! As was our server, champagne.
This was our third time here and Herb and Wood never fails to disappoint!
The food was amazing. Fresh and quality ingredients. Great service! Would definitely come back.
I felt the service was slow. And while I appreciated having the extra time and not being rushed, there was too much time waiting on food then to order dessert then to pay...
Everything was terrific until we were close to finishing our main courses. With 3 minutes we had 5 different people try to clear our table before we finished. Became clear they were trying to turn it over. Great up to then.
Amazing happy hour! So delicious - drinks and food.
Good food propositve preparations
Loved the food & ambiance!
Perfect spot for a date night. We shared food tapas style and enjoyed the night with great food and awesome service.
Great ambiance & food was wonderful. Will be back. . .
Great, creative food, and generous portions
Had the brazinie and cauliflower. Fish was excellently prepared and presented— deboned, crispy skin, flaky meat, well balanced and creative sauce. Incredibly flavorful but not overpowering of fish. Cauliflower was brazed or sautés with sundries tomatoes- amazing flavor. Could have made a meal of the cauliflower dish. Restaurant is pricey- nice but limited wines by glass with small pours. Restaurant was recommended and lived up to its recommendation.
Consistently amazing food and service
Servers and waiters seemed to care less whether we enjoyed ourselves or if our drinks needed filled. The food however was AMAZING. I had the scallops and by husband had the halibut, both were amazing. Restaurant is awesome looking. Drinks that we did get were great. The pb & c dessert was fantastic. Loved it.
Terrific menu and a lovely place to eat
The croissants were perfection! The Dutch baby was superior and a tasty delight. The shakshuka was divine. The crispy prosciutto toast was irresistible. So worth going for Sunday brunch! Also love dinner here! The cauliflower is the best EVER!!
A must if you find yourself in San Diego. Great service by Jeremy and the food was outstanding. Loved the ambiance as well.
From the ambiance to the food - Herb and Wood was fantastic. We went on a Saturday night for dinner. It was lively, dimly lit and the music was great. In terms of the food, this may have been the best meal we had all week while visiting San Diego. The bone marrow spread was a real standout. Highly recommend.
Chicken entree was very good, branzino was overrated. Pizzas on the next table looked really good. Next time..... Good vibe.
Sooooooo Very Good!!!!!!! My new favorite restaurant. Expensive but good!
A friend of mine and I tried this place out for the 1st time tonight 10/5. We both liked to decor and enjoyed our dining experience greatly! Jeremy was our waiter and was not only informative but entertaining. He gave excellent recommendations. I had the Roasted Branzino and my friend, the Roasted Half Chicken and spilt the Roasted Cauliflower. All 3 dishes were fantastic, very flavorful. We then spilt PB & C – Peanut Butter Mousse, Peanut Brittle, Chocolate Whiskey Cake (more than enough for two). Can't compliment the food & service enough. We'll be back.
Very good food
Really delicious across the board. My favs were the avocado toast with candied jalepenos and the scallops. The corn withe the scallops was amazing.
Friendly and attentive staff
Best decor service and food! Would go back again. So good!
The food, the restaurant, everything was so so perfect. Loved it
Underwhelming. Scallops were cold and raw in the middle. Beet salad lacked flavor. The chicken was good. Pasta Pomordoro was bland and shrimp that was added was just boiled, not grilled and lacked flavor. It is off the list of places to try. Not sure I need to go back.
Amazing restaurant with great, unique dishes
So we really liked the the restaurant on arrival. The ambience was lovely. They put a lot of effort into the lighting and restaurant overall.
Our service started off well. We ordered some food and drinks and got ready for the experience.
The food came out quicker than we expected but that’s fine. 3 of the 4 of us enjoyed the meal. Personally for me the pork was undercooked. 3 of us ordered the pork and the food presentation was inconsistent. My mums was perfect for our taste for example.
The service changed quickly after the meal. Our waiter made no eye contact with us and kind of just threw down the Dessert menus. Then our waiter was no where to be seen for about 25 mins. I was about to get up and ask another waiter if they could get our bill.
I hope the manager/owner reads these reviews. You are almost great but please remember that the service should be from when you enter until when you walk out the door.
We have been to Herb and Wood several times and have always enjoyed it. It is pricey but the food is always outstanding and makes it worth it. Unfortunately, on our last visit our server was a real disappointment. He was very unfriendly and hurried though any question we had. He didn't really attend to us and everyone in our group of 8 was really unhappy with him. Thankfully the food and company was outstanding and we had a good time.
We have loved Herb & Wood since it opened. We come to San Diego multiple times per year and attempt to go to Herb & Wood each of our times in the city. But this time the prices seem to be continually increasing. And have also added a "Surcharge" at the bottom of the bill that surprised us when we got a tab. The prices of the items are high enough, but then to get that additional charge makes it even more in-reasonable. The prices for wine by the glass are very high and the pours have not increased and are very short. Just so sad, for a place that has been a stand-out!
But the food and the service were fantastic. The flavors in some of the dishes are just fantastic. We really enjoy the menu. Just disappointed in what has happened with pricing over time and surcharges.
My daughter and I were looking for just this experience! It was an interesting menu with complex flavors. The wine choices were varied with both affordable and high end wines. We loved the menu choices and only wished that we could have sampled more. We are looking forward to a return trip!
