Henry's Tavern - Seattle Ratings and Reviews
I've been to Henry's beer garden countless times before Mariners games, but this was the first time I'd grabbed a bite to eat inside. We were headed to a show at Showbox SoDo, and there wasn't a baseball game that night, so it was SUPER quiet and empty inside, which was fine but it made the service a bit slower -- we were the only people in our section so the waitress didn't come over as often as she would have if it was packed. However, I was super pleasantly surprised by our food -- my sister and I both got burgers (mine the regular burger and hers the mac & cheese burger) and they were very good. Better than I usually expect sport bar food to be! And, pro tip, ALWAYS add the gorgonzola fries :)
I heard so many things about the awesome burgers. I got the Mac n cheese burger and the Mac n cheese was dry and although I asked for my burger to be well done, it was actually charred and burnt which made the burger acrid tasting which was unfortunate. It was my birthday and I was really excited to try it and I was unfortunately disappointed. The Gorgonzola fries were good, however.
Food was good though the menu was notably far less varied and extensive than other Henry's locations. Manager was kind on the phone about accommodating our table of 14 at 7:30 on a Saturday night. Waiter was gracious about splitting bills when we asked him upfront to do so. But that's where the good parts end. It turns out that there was another table of equal size and a larger group of people having cocktails only on the other side of the restaurant; there was NO ONE else there- at all. Our waiter had our table and the same size group next to us. Service on drinks was very, very slow. We mostly sat without drinks the entire time. Food came out all at once, which was awesome, but by then no one had drinks and the waiter brought our tabs while half the table had full plates of food and everyone was without drinks. We had intended to have a few more rounds and people were still eating! We asked to keep our bills open but he was dismissive and never came back after that (some other server came to collect payment shortly after). It was only 9:00 by this time and we wanted more drinks so we went to the back bar area, hoping for better service. There we were immediately greeted with the notation that we could order last call only. At 9:00 on a Saturday! We asked about why we couldn't sit in the completely empty bar and have a few drinks (again, party of 14 drinking adults), which required intervention with some manager from back in the kitchen, and ended with them telling us that they didn't close until 10:30 but would only serve us "last round drinks." No drunks in our party, dead restaurant, and early on Saturday night; so, another couple hundred dollar tab rejected for no apparent reason. Mind you, we were all in business casual, quiet, ordering full meals and drinks... We weren't loud, drunk sports fans ordering PBR. No idea where the attitude came from but we will not be back. We walked to Pyramid, where they happily served us until 11- as noted on the "open" sign.
First time at Henry's Tavern. The place is MUCH bigger that it may seem from the street. We had a late lunch/brunch on Saturday and sat in the back at one of the bar tables, next to the open windows (which are glass garage doors that open the entire back wall). Service was VERY good and the ribs were falling off the bone. My husband had the wings which he also enjoyed. Beers, wines, cocktails - all are plentiful and delicious. We will be back....
We were there first thing when it opened. We were the only patrons for the first 45 minutes. Yet we had to flag down the waitress, she forgot a part of our order and beverages were served in plastic cups. I could see using these when the place fills up, but plastic cups for premium beer and bloody mary's was cheap and unnecessary. Raise your game during the downtime so I would want to come back. Disappointed.
We celebrate birthday's here many times and normally have no complaints. We walked in and could hear a loud vibration in the duct work, which was very annoying. We had a group of 10 people and could hardly talk over it. The food came out very slow and spaced out 2-3 minutes each time they brought food to us. It literally took almost 10 minutes to get us our food. It looked like they were understaffed and we felt bad for the waitresses .
We love the Ice Cream cookie dessert and want to go back, just hoping things are better next time.
I like this spot, service was good and had great vibe. I do understand they were expecting a larger crowd that evening so they explained to us why plastic cups but look around and notice its not that crowded and please use regular glassware, it was not full or full of rowdy folks.
The bar was loud and crowded, even though it wasn't a game night. It looked like fun, but I was with my senior citizen parents trying to grab a quick dinner, so we sat in the restaurant, and there was plenty of room on that side of the house. Our server was lovely - quick, kind, thoughtful. Our food was really good too - burgers and sandwiches that were well prepared and well priced. Four of us ate and had one round of drinks for $88 (plus tip), and we were perfectly happy.
I like Henry's! Will definitely go back.
My husband asked me to set up a dinner location for an office group of his, including some important out of town executives who rarely come to Seattle. We had had a good experience at Henry's in the past (that was for just 2 of us), so I suggested Henry's since it was in close proximity to where the rest of the meetings were taking place. I'm sad to say this was not a positive ending to a long day. We weren't greeted by anyone when we showed up and had to stand and wait. Then the air conditioning was out of order and it was a hot day, so the atmosphere was far too warm to be comfortable. Then our server seemed to have his head somewhere other than on his job. Two of the people in our group decided they'd like to order appetizers for the group to share before dinner. He never brought the appetizers and then our meals just showed up so the appetizers never happened. The food we did get was fine enough, but there were enough things wrong that it just didn't put a stellar feeling over the evening that should have been a nice wrap-up to two days of important meetings. My husband said he wouldn't take a group back to Henry's again.
We've been to Henry's before and the food and service has always been wonderful!! We visited again Sunday 3/15 and I have to say I was a little disappointed. Both our pretzel and the pizza we had was burned on the bottom and tasted bitter as a result. The food is great here, we just think someone wasn't paying attention during our last visit. We'll try Henry's again because we love the atmosphere and the service. Hopefully the food will be better next time.
This sports bar is convenient to both stadiums and probably gets quite busy on game days but seemed pretty mellow when there was no game happening. There were comfy couches and booths with lots of TVs showing sports. The menu had a range of choices and prices, the food was tasty and had good portions. The wedge of lettuce salad was a big hit and the Mud Pie brownie dessert was rich and delish!
We had a group of eight and we made a reservation so we wouldn't catch them off guard. We had to pay for parking in the lot adjacent to the restaurant. We thought that since it was a non-game day that there would be free parking (like other restaurants on in the area). They sat us in the first room right off the entry way. It was December and it was extremely cold. We asked to move but were told this was our spot. Our waitress was quick to take our drink and appetizer orders but then it took 20 minutes for that stuff to come out (drinks and food). Not sure why as the restaurant was fully staffed and only had 6 tables at one point. We all had beer, soda, or simple mixed drinks. Once we asked one of the runners to take our entree order the waitress came back. They came out quickly and all of the food was amazing. The waitress really didn't check on us or ask us if we needed anything. One person caught her attention as she was going by, got her a box, but didn't ask the rest of the table, so she had to make several trips.
Overall it was fine. I probably wouldn't take a group there or host a company event there (the reason we were scouting the location), but I'd probably go there with one or two other people so we could be seated away from the entrance and not have to pay so much for parking.
Its always unfortunate when great food and atmosphere are tarnished by poor service. Fully realizing that the "dinner rush" is not an easy thing. having worked at restaurants, i fully realize this. if a server feels overwhelmed, than management needs to step in and pick up the slack so the costumer experience is not compromised. for the hour and forty minutes that our meal took, we saw our server twice. Soda refills never happened and second round of beers came long after the meals had been consumed. These are simple things that can make or break the overall experience. I hope they fix it for the sake of new costumers, because i wont be going back...
My girlfriend surprised me with a birthday dinner at Henry's Tavern and we loved it! The food and beer was awesome and they treated us well and promptly. They recommended we try the gorgonzola waffle fries and they did not disappoint, they were amazing! Overall, we had a great night, we loved the ambience and the quality of food and service.
We visited the Portland Henry's on 8/15 while we were visiting and it was GREAT! My daughter, adult, decided to go to the Henry's in
Seattle for her birthday based on our original experience. The place was almost empty. No specials sheet like in Portland. My husband and daughter ordered the exact same thing at both places. My husband's mongolian beef was way more spicy. My daughter's mac and cheese had crumbs added to the top. I think in Portland they asked if she wanted them. Now, the big disappointment…in Portland we had the chocolate cake with ice cream in the middle…fresh delicious. The ones in Seattle were frozen solid. Waitress asked if one couple wanted dessert before everyone was done eating. Why
rush when no one was there
This was my second visit to a Henry's...last week in Portland for lunch and this week in Seattle for dinner. For lunch I had the pulled pork on flatbread, and enjoyed it very much. For an appetizer before dinner we tried the cheese curds. Yum! They were lightly battered and fried, and served with fried pickled peppers and a pepper jelly. The grilled romaine salad was wonderful. The vegie burger one dinner companion had was too spicy for all of us, but had amazing flavor. The waffle fries with Gorgonzola were crazy good. Another companion had the stinky blue cheese burger, and loved it. The service was very good, though it would have been nice to get the salads before the main course. Our server (wish I'd noted her name) was delightful.
Not comparable to Portland location....very limited menu. Burger burnt to point of not being edible. Waitress a little offbeat, nice but once she took our order never came back to refill drinks etc. they did take the burnt burger off the tab and were nice enough but the food just wasn't good......
Service was a bit spotty time-and-attentiveness-wise, but not a big problem. The tap list was impressive but somehow we have already had all of the IPAs available. The food had mixed reviews - the pizza margherita had a great thin crust, but the tomato sauce was overbearing - lots of what seemed to be tomato paste mixed with tomato sauce. A very light tomato sauce with a small amount of crushed or pureed tomatoes would have been much better. The salad a friend had was much better received - large portion and tasty chicken on a fresh bed of lettuce and other fixins. I'll definitely be going back for Showbox Sodo pre-funks, but will probably try more traditional pub fare.
I loved Henry's! It was a very welcoming ambiance with comfortable high backed chairs and couches. I appreciated that they had several sections in the bar area with couches around a table for larger groups to use and high backed chairs for couples to have a comfy alternative too! The style of the decor and layout was modern with a rustic touch, fun music, friendly staff and a fabulous beer selection made for the perfect place!! We don't even live in Seattle, but we'll be back to Henry's Tavern! :)
We were there on a Wed night. Place way about half full. We waited for eye contact and finally got a table. We waited and waited for service. Finally got service but the drinks did not come for a good 15 min + asked two more times. Slow service again to order food. One of us ordered a second beer that never came. EXTREMELY UNORGANIZED! Through all of this the staff was courteous and pleasant but still long waits and things forgotten altogether. Sad too because this location is good and the feel of the place could be good.
We made reservations at Henry's for a party of 10. Our daughter was returning to the US after studying abroad in Chile for 4 months. The restaurant is very nice, food good, service good but we were FREEZING. It was very cold outside and every time the front doors opened, you felt the chill into your bones.---And we were sitting fairly far away from the door. Henry's may want to consider putting in a vestibule of some sort. Other than that, we like the place. We will go back---when it is warming outside.
I know it's winter time, but myself, as well as the rest of the people in my party and several other patrons wore their coats during their lunch. I asked the waiter to turn up the heat and he obliged, but with the front door continually opening and closing it made for a very chilly experience. This also effected the food as it got cold much sooner. Might I suggest a vestibule for the winter months or ask partrons to use the rear entrance during this time of the year. Not the best holiday lunch location I have attended.
We went on a non-game night, so there were only three tables filled. We were disappointed in the service, particularly given the lack of tables to attend to. We had long waits and long periods of not being checked on. But the food was good, with lots of choices. I put quiet for the noise level, but I imagine on game days it is loud.
Service was spotty at best. Ordered a beer and wine - that took some time and getting "refills" was a chore. We got our cheese curds (yum!) quickly and then our meals were slow in coming but were good. Our guest's order was totally wrong. When the (third) server came back to say that he'd gotten the wrong hamburger (he already knew that when he took his first bite) there was definitely some hesitation on replacing it with the correct burger since he'd "touched it". Hmmmm..........should have been no question whatsoever but he just settled for the wrong burger. The guys ordered another beer and that took so long that we were itching to leave for the Ms game by that time. All in all not a sterling experience!
