The chef fillet my fish at the table, and was very knowledgeable about how to fillet a fish, which I didn’t know! Best part, it was delicious!!
wonderful neighborhood restaurant
I always enjoyed going there with friends but this time the food was really barely edible and it was only hamburgers, 2 regular and one vegetarian. The service was very friendly as usual and the ambience was wonderful; maybe it was an off night for the chef
Good place to go when friends are visiting NYC. I think the have to I improve a bit the menu. Overall a good place to have brunch!
As always, a wonderful evening at Henry's! Thank you.
Love Henry's. My new favorite place! Wine Wednesday's are a must! Staff is knowledgeable about the food and wine and friendly without being intrusive. Haven't been disappointed with any dish from steak to salad to pasta and onwards. Good selection of vegetarian entrees too.
I have always liked Henrys. The tables are far enough apart that you can have a conversation and be heard, and also not feel that you are hearing your neighbors' conversation. Their salads are delicious, which is generally what I order, but others with me have had other entrees and have always been pleased. And the owner should be commended for NOT USING PLASTIC. No plastic straws, nt plastic take out containers. As we struggle with climate change and preserving the environment, eliminating plastic is essential. Henrys should be commended.
always FABULOUS! and welcoming. my go-to place. great food and cocktails. can’t go wrong here. Bravo Henry!!
In a nutshell, here's what's right with the restaurant: The ambiance- it's a pretty attractive restaurant and tables are not on top of one another; the $5 Bloody Mary's was adequate.
Here's what's wrong with the restaurant: Everyone's food came cold and once sent back, came back somewhat warm but not really hot at all; round tables for 4 are just too small for 4 people and most of the tables for 4 are round; while we liked our waitress, the service in general was inadequate; busboys were very nice but amateurish and unprofessional.
Very friendly and attentive staff. We were dining with our nephew who is attending Columbia.
Owner came over and specifically spoke with our nephew and welcomed to the Columbia family.
Henry’s is our favorite restaurant on the Upper West Side. Fantastic welcoming service. Great food. Good place for conversation (the tables are fare apart). Been dining at Henry’s regularly for 12+ years. Would make it a destination restaurant even if it wasn’t a few blocks away.
The food, service and ambiance were just perfect.
Going back there for dinner soon.
We went to Henry's for Easter Brunch. I made the reservation a long time in advance and asked in the reservation to be seated by a window. When we arrived, it was 2/3 empty and yet we were told that the nicest tables by the window were all reserved for others. The menu was also a disappointment -- there just wasn't anything very special. The service was fine, but the whole thing was just rather a let down given that we were hoping for something nice for Easter.
even though i'd made a reservation, i was stuck in a dark uncomfortable corner in the back. the reason i was given was that it was a popular night. but what is the use of making a reservation if it doesn't hold a table for you? this is not the first time this happened. i like the food at henry's. i like the decor. usually, it's a good experience. this time it was not. even after the restaurant was practically empty, our server somehow didn't see us. i don't know if it's different management or what. i don't think i'll go back unless it's something spontaneous. i know i'll never make a plan and a reservation.
My husband and I and our three sons ate here based on the terrific reviews on Open Table. We called to change our original reservation and the hostess who took the call was super nice and remembered us when we came in. The lead host was very friendly and genial as well. Terrific food, with great options for vegetarians and children. At the end of the meal, however, our waiter - who had been friendly up to this point - said within our earshot to one of the busboys "Can you bus that table? I'm sick of talking to them." The guy bussing our table looked absolutely mortified, as he could tell we had heard. No idea why the waiter felt that way. We weren't rude, loud, or messy. He spoiled the atmosphere for us, so we left without ordering dessert.
Excellent food, attentive service, beautiful dessert with candle for my birthday dinner!
I went to Henry's often over many years because it was easy and good. Recently, though, the attitude there has drastically changed -- from being welcoming and relaxed to (1) not being allowed to sit at the reserved table until all parties have arrived for a 6:00pm (!!) reservation and (2) being asked to leave after 80 minutes because the table was needed. REALLY???? Outrageous. Do not patronize unless you enjoy being humiliated.
Follow-up Note: The owner called me in response to the review, above. Instead of apologizing, he chastised me for leaving a negative review, insisting that I had actually been permitted two hours at his table -- and that I owed him an explanation for having left a negative review in a public forum. What ever happened to service recovery?
Delicious food, delightful service, great energy...will look forward to returning soon!!
Service seemed a bit off. But you got to love this place and I will continue to go back and go back.
Henry deserves a giant thank you from anyone past a certain age for keeping the noise level at a grown up volume. And for keeping it comfortable by not jamming in tables.
I am glad to pay the stiff tab for that privilege
As usual : the Best!
Henry's is my go to for delicious comfort food. I've never had a bad meal there whether it be brunch, lunch or dinner.
We love Henry's. We come here every trip to New York. Never had a disappointing meal.
One guest uses a walker and finds the stairs to/from the bathroom facilities prevent her from visiting Henry's any more.
A friendly neighborhood spot with excellent pub grub, efficient service, and a fun vibe.
Always a total pleasure at Henry’s. Never noisy but with a healthy buzz. Food and especially service are topnotch.
Owner Henry delightful and welcoming.
We love Henry's. The food is always very good, the cocktails and wine first-rate, the service attentive, the noise level low.
Three of us had a quick dinner before an event at Columbia. My friends each had the hamburger and a beer. They described the burger as well cooked and flavorful. I had the artisanal rice bowl, a tasty combination of rice, quinoa, Brussels sprouts, Swiss chard, asparagus, fennel salad and a hard boiled egg. It was delicious and filling. We were in a bit of a hurry so we skipped dessert.
Great dining experience. Henry even came by the table to see how everything was going. The food was tasty and the staff congenial. Great Neighborhood gem.
Turns out my guest - who had also made a reservation which was handled nicely - had been in a show with one of the waiters (when the waiter was 12...). A nice gentle reunion.
The ambiance is friendly and the food was very good.
the margarita that was served to our table was bizarre to say the least - it was sent back and graciously a replacement cocktail was provided
Enjoyed, as usual, having a wonderful meal at Henry's!
Love going to Henry’s, as always. The food is terrific and I love the ambience. Service has gone down, however: our waiter forgot to bring bread till we asked, forgot my husband’s beer totally, and other waiters too lacked focus - are they being trained enough? Waiters used to be skilled, attentive, and customer- oriented - even delightfully friendly.
Henry's has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. I've come here several times for brunch and always enjoy the good food and friendly service.
Henry's is the best restaurant in my neighborhood. The place is pleasant and comfortable, and the food is always very well prepared. The service is cordial and efficient, though at times a little slow. Over all, to eat there is a very satisfactory experience.
This is always my neighborhood go-to for meeting friends, and I have enjoyed everything I've ever ordered there. I'll be there again, likely, very soon. Last week I went there twice.
Interesting menu but some what pricey for a casual meal at a neighborhood joint. We were a bit taken a back to see that wine was $14/glass . However, our food was excellent and very well prepared. I had a shrimp and linguini entree with olives, broccoli rabe and pesto in a light white wine better sauce which was excellent--light and tasty. My friend enjoyed her hamburger which looked thick and juicy. Although I rarely order hamburgers when eating out, this looked so good I am temped to order one next rime I am here. Service was good--waiters were attentive but not intrusive, The tables are relatively well-spaced for a Manhattan restaurant; however when the restaurant is full (it often attracts families with children and largish parties) it can be noisy. However, the night were there, the restaurant was blissfully empty and quiet
I do love Henry's. For my money it's the ideal neighborhood joint.
Went for a nice neighborhood quite brunch- my dad and bros bday - was happy to have a table to accommodate all 8 of us. We bumped into a cousin of ours and invited her to pull up a chair with her baby son- she wasn't going to stay - only chat. The hostess felt the need to come over and let us know that she thought by having the additional person/half it would be "encroaching" on the other diners experience.... Meanwhile the table behind us had 42 people with infants, babies, kids, teens, adults, and elderly people. The meal was good - the hostess word choice was inappropriate. Easy fix/ be nice people. Life is short - chillax.
The food here is always outstanding, from great burgers to sophisticated dishes. We’ve had them all over the years, most recently some great East Coast oysters followed by a yummy jambalaya. Make that very yummy, and I used to live in New Orleans.
