Had a very nice dinner experience here with my wife. It was great to find a good restaurant with good food, good service, and an atmosphere where you didn't need to yell to talk to dinnermates ! Terrific cheese plate, great burger and tasty pappardelle. Professional but down to earth waiters. Nice wine list, too. All in all....very good.
Such good food. Hanger steak perfectly cooked. House-made pappardelle was one of the best pasta dishes in Austin. Good portions and good value. Simply fantastic neighborhood eatery.
Met a family member at Henri's with my girlfriend. Had a great beer. They had a bottle of wine they enjoyed as well. And I lucked into ordering one of the best burgers I've had anywhere. It was very beefy and the toppings didn't compete. There is a burger chain in town that likes to put high end toppings on a burger (rhymes with Schmop Schmoddy) and use unusual meats, but this is honest to goodness a better BURGER. It's a nice, small location, and when you go on a week night when there's a small crowd, it feels like you really discovered a great place that no one knows about...but they do...and it's still great.
Enjoyed our plates - oysters followed by trout - very much. Wine was so-so only. Service was perfect. The noise level was a bit high, but there are much noisier places.
We thoroughly enjoyed this pleasing little neighborhood restaurant. Their menu is small but we both had dishes we liked. My son had a smoked sweetbread which was tender and tasty, not to mention unusual. I had the salmon and a wonderful grainy mustard potato salad. Hopefully, their menu will be changed periodically so we can return and try other dishes. The service was prompt and helpful.
Everything is great, and it's a top-notch burger. Great wine list and wonderful cheeses.
Pork shoulder and beef tenderloin were both excellent. Dessert cheese plate was fun and tasty, too!
The entrees arrived less than 5 minutes after the cheese platter was served. Cheese platter was good. The steak had a very good char but was very tough. Rather lack lustre service.
While our meals were well prepared, the service and staff were not. Even though we expected the restaurant to be crowded on the Saturday preceding Valentine's, it appears that the kitchen and staff had not anticipated or planned for the volume. We arrived at 6:45 for our reserved table and were seated right away. We placed and received our drink orders right away and then ordered a cheese board and our entrees. Several minutes later the waiter returned to let us know the kitchen was already out of my husband's desired entree, the Duck Confit. Surprising, as it was only 7 pm! When a menu is as limited as this one, this left only 3 or 4 other things to choose from. Our appetizer course was very late coming out (probably 20 min + for a cheeseboard!) and our entrees came out along with it. I sent the entrees back as we wanted to enjoy the cheeses etc first. I ordered a second glass of wine at that point and when it did not arrive within about 15 min, we asked about it and finally received it. Too many strikes. The food was good, although not as hot as it would have been had we been ready to eat when it came out. We noticed the same sort of thing happening to tables around us and overheard the server telling one table that they were now out of 2 of the entrees! I guess the key is to go very early on a non-holiday night!
Perfect for us. We enjoy trying different wines while snacking on cheese, nuts and greens. Nice find!
Well, overall we had a great experience. The wine, while overpriced, ($30 - $50 markup per bottle over regular retail) was good, and a good selection. Meat and cheese board was very good too, but again failed to really WOW.... well, the duck liver was amazing! THAT DID WOW!
Our table sampled the burger, the steak and the fish entrees.
Burger was good and juicy, but nothing too special, the steak was just a good steak, and the fish just a good fish..... Portion sizes were great! SO MUCH FOOD..... but the overall flavor just left me wanting more. The whole experience just felt "safe", no risks in cooking being taken, no innovation, no flair, just basic food.
I'd be willing to go back again. (probably happy hour) and share some wine with friends, but not to dinner again.
A fantastic dinner with a great server. My husband had the sirloin and I had the seared tuna. My seared tuna came with lentils and bacon, and since I don't eat red meat, they accommodated me by putting the tuna over a delicious salad. Dessert was superb - hubby got the cheese plate which came with all sorts of nuts, honey, chocolate and jam, and I got the Brie, honey, jam, chocolate, & dessert wine from Italy which was outstanding.
Restaurant was adorable. It was very quiet but we were there early on a Wednesday. Had wine and the cheese board which was amazing and because it was so good we had to try something else so we had the Risotto. Also amazing! They had an acoustic soul set with Curtis Lee and Andy Hernandez, who were fantastic. Overall experience was excellent and based on the Facebook posts I've seen on their page I can't wait to try them out for lunch. Yum!
The food is good (not exceptional), the wine list is great... But the smell when you come into the restaurant and which stays on your clothes till you wash everything, that bothered me a lot...
Very difficult to have a pleasant conversation when you have to scream it. Awful acoustics. Ugh.
Also, the food was not amazing and it was quite expensive.
It was a nice one time experience-but I would not recommend it to anyone, nor will I return. Food was good, albeit very small portions, especially for the price. My daughter and I had a cheese plate, two small salads with no meat, one glass of wine, and it cost $85. Even though we requested our salads without the crabmeat that came with it, they charged us full price. Eh, I can understand that, although I don't agree with it. However, when I shared with them that I was gluten intolerant they brought out gluten-free crackers in place of the bread they would normally serve....and charged me for it! Ambiance and food don't support the price point. If it hadn't been for the great company-it would have been a very disappointing evening.
Definitely recommend the cheese board; a bit pricey but worth it. Other food also delicious and not overpriced overall. Loved the place.
From the opening cheese board to the entrees, we had a delightful dinner at Henri's. The portions were perfect and the dishes were executed well. Love the wine list and the cheese selection. Our serve was very friendly and helpful while making great suggestions.
Came for Easter brunch, but had been for dinner once before. I preferred my dinner experience overall, but brunch wasn't bad. The menu was just okay. All four members of my party ended up ordering the same thing (Biscuits & Gravy), if that gives you any idea of what we thought of the selection.
They always have excellent cheese and charcuterie boards (a must-get) and the biscuits and gravy were really, really good. Great French Press coffee as well.
Our server was attentive but then seemed to disappear for long stints of time. Overall, it was a nice experience. I wish the brunch menu had a few more "classic" brunch options, and with a few extra check-ins, service would have been much better.
I recommend the spot for both brunch and dinner. I will be back.
We love our dates here. The cozy environment and the impeccable cheese plates, breads and wine selection mixed with a carefully curated selection of great plates.
My wife and I dine here on occasion and this time brought friends. The service was excellent. We always get the cheese plate and other entrees. I like all my meals here but lunch and brunch offer the most variety of items on the menu. Flavorful burger tonight and also the brisket dish just melted in your mouth. It's a very tiny but very comfortable place. I like it being like that.
We sat in one of the back corner tables, and it was so lovely! I hadn't tried their dinner yet so the menu made for a tough choice! Everything we ordered was delicious, and the service was perfect.
You can go to Henri's for any occasion - lunch, brunch, happy hour, dinner, or just wine and charcuterie plates. The staff is always friendly, unpretentious, and knowledgeable. Many regulars are on a first name basis and the atmosphere is on point. Support local business and go to Henri's.
Henri's was originally a cheese shop which eventually expanded to a restaurant. The selection of cheeses and meats is impressive and well chosen, but a cheese and meat plate there can be pricey. Otherwise the short but inventive list of entrees is reasonably priced, very generously portioned and interesting -- also delicious.
We enjoyed going there but found it quite noisy as it began to fill.
This was my second attempt at Henri's. I had to cancel the last reservation after they had some air conditioner issues, which they called me about well in advance. Much appreciated. As to be expected, the wine and cheese are delightful. The menu is small, but there's a good variety of dinner items. The steak burger wasn't to my taste, but it was executed well. I'd definitely come back, but I'd probably focus on the wine and cheese for future visits.
Overpriced, nothing spectacular. Service a disappointment. Three people were confused about my reservation, the waitress hit our cheese board with her bum, and then she threw out our leftovers after my friend asked to have them wrapped.
Small space is cute but too dark, too loud to be intimate and tables obviously too close if the waitress doesn't fit between tables without bumping into things, like our food.
All said and done, left feeling I had been robbed.
I would not recommend this place for a group more than 4. We had 7, so we had a long table. The overhead hanging light bulb was burned out at one end of the table and the waitperson said she couldn't change it. It was also extremely noisy. Bad accoustics. We could barely hear the waitperson OR the person directly across the table from us. I will go back because the food and wine were excellent, but only with one or two other people.
We enjoyed the food and beverages, and the service was good. However, when they brought our entrees, I almost had to laugh. We paid $22 for a piece of fish the size of a small post-it note. And, they did not even add veggies, etc. to the fish dish. If I go back, I'll stick to appetizers and salad.
The first time I ate lunch here (about a month ago) I had an amazing experience, and could not wait to go back. It was a Saturday, and they had both a lunch and brunch menu available. I ordered a salad and my friend ordered the grilled cheese, and they were both delicious. It was a lovely lunch experience!
The next time I went back was a birthday brunch, and there were 5 of us. Half of our food was great, and the other half was just ok. One friend ordered eggs benedict, which came out about 10 minutes after the rest of us got our food. However, when she cut into it, the inside of the eggs were COLD. I gave it another try this weekend, and my salad was so salty that it was inedible. I'm still planning to give it one more chance!
