Hemingway's Ratings and Reviews
We had a large group of people, family gathering. The price was good for the excellent quality. Not one person in our party had a bad thing to say after the meal. The service was really attentive to us. I even went and thanked the chief personally for the meal he cooked for me (Ahi Tuna). If you’re at the hotel or in the area I would recommend this restaurant.
We wanted to take our friends to an upscale place with especially good quality food and service. Hemingway’s exceeded our expectations. The service was impeccable and our friends were very picky on their food choices and yet the waiter was extremely knowledgeable and handled them quite well. The ambience was especially nice and made for a wonderful evening.
We were celebrating a birthday with a romantic dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and quiet. We were seated promptly upon arrival and greeted by our server Brad. He was professional, friendly and attentive. We ordered the calamari which tasted good but was slightly over cooked. The paella and the crab cakes were delicious and prepared perfectly.
Hemingway's was a disappointment. The Hotel is beautiful but quite snobby. Service in the bar was poor. They were busy which obviously was a challenge for them. Our waiter was excellent. He was from Hawaii and he made up for the otherwise poor reception. He was as good a waiter as I have ever enjoyed. He foresaw problems and prevented or intervened. The food was good though nothing exceptional.
My family and I came to Hemingway's for a nice dinner after Christmas. My brother and I were taking my parents out as a gift. We had come to Hemingway's a couple times before and were happy with the food and service. It's definitely on the pricey side (my crab cakes were $40!), and although the food is delicious, I'm not sure I would call it a good value. My mom's wagyu burger that was $22 was the cheapest item and may have been among the best tasting at the table. Our server, Mike, was great though.
Overall, a lovely dining experience.
My boyfriend and I had been looking forward to our romantic Christmas Eve dinner at Hemingway's but were severely disappointed at the service and the food quality. 30 minutes had passed before we were able to order and another 30 minutes to get our food. Even the patrons at the table next to us caused a scene because their food had taken over an hour to be delivered to the table and the restaurant was not at max capacity. The steak we ordered was cooked to hard and tasted burnt and the Seafood Paella was one of the worst we've tasted. Our waiter, whose service was not memorable enough to remember his name, was not very attentive. However, the two good thing about the restaurant was Jimmy, the gentleman who served us water and seemed to be present whenever we could not find our waiter and the ambiance.
The food is served on a very hot plate but is cold from hanging around the kitchen counter lights. For a supposed fish based menu the salmon for example was inedible over cooked and covered in a glaze which because of over cooking was horrible. The white wine was to near room temperature for my liking. The shrimp cocktail was tasteless. Orlando has many fine restaurants but sadly this isn’t one of them.
Fabulous experience!!! I usually avoid Hotel Restaurants and can't stress enough how happy I was that I trusted reviews and went to Hemingway's. The chef did a fabulous job with fresh ingredients. We had the crab cakes and shrimp scampi. The crab cakes rivaled Charleston's best. I will come back even if I am not staying at the Hyatt in the future.
We have been eating at Hemingways for years, it is an annual restaurant stop for us when we are in Orlando. In the past we have considered it one of our favorite restaurants. This year we all agreed some thing has changed. They ran out of one of their best entree items on the menu
( duck)- which was strange as we had a 7pm reservation. There was too much spice added to one of their meals - drowning out the taste of the seafood and our greatest complaint the service was so S L O W. It took us three hours to get through dinner !? Our waitress- aware of our annoyance brought us a small appetizer as a means to remedy our frustration but...given there were few people dining we find the slow service problem a bit baffling. My hope is they can address some of these issues as the setting is quite a lovely place to eat and I know the staff works hard to provide excellent service.
I often choose Hemingway’s for business dinners. Food and service are exceptional. We were a party of six. They were not particularly busy this particular evening but still set us in a separate area vs seating all guests together. It is not a loud restaurant. You can actually have conversation that all can participate in. They never disappoint
The food was excellent. However, we expected more of a quieter dining area. I understand that there are many families with kids, but we would have liked a more quiet area. There were only the two of us on a date and it was really noisy where they put us. So, I would probably not go back again.
This was the most wonderful experience. A Thanksgiving to remember. I would highly recommend this outstanding restaurant for any occasion. The service was superb, the ambience perfect the food exquisite. It exceeded my expectations, especially on a holiday.
We enjoyed our meals here. The food was great and the service even better. The options on the menu were diverse and very appealing.
We highly recommend this for a nice dinner.
The only problem we had was finding the restaurant! We weren't staying at the Hilton and the signage for the restaurant were poor.
I hadn't been to Hemingway's in quite a while, and wasn't disappointed this time. The ambience is still lovely and the food was delicious. I enjoyed the special of the night, seabass prepared in a simple but delicious sauce accompanied by wilted spinach and butternut squash. My husband enjoyed the paella, always his favorite. It did not disappoint, filled with delicious fish, lobster, shrimp, scallops, and chorizo over a creamy yellow rice with pimentos and peas. Our waiter, who has been working there for years, was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. We will return!
We were staying at the Grand Cypress Hotel and decided to eat at Hemmingways. What a mistake that was. The food was not even close to being worth the expensive price tag. I ordered the Chef's Special which was the sea bass and my wife ordered the seafood paella.
You would think the Chef's Special would be a special dish but that was far from the truth. The bass was overcooked and bland with a bit of a smell like raw sewage. In fact, almost every dish had that smell in it, including the water which really ruined the entire meal.
The Seafood Paella was also overcooked and had an overpowering hickory smoked taste which made the overcooked seafood taste even worse. On top of that it had the sewage water smell which made it very unpleasant.
We thought at first it was the hotel's water source that had that smell but we later dined at the other restaurant in the same hotel, the Lake House and the food in there did not have any of this strange smell at all.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone except my enemies.
