Very poor service and overpriced food. Waited 30 min to get our order taken in an empty restaurant and paid $20 for a sandwich.
Great meal and the location was perfect!
Hemingway's had come to us with high praise from some local folks. They had not been in a while so we decided to take them for a nice lunch. It was a beautiful Spring day and the hostess was fabulous and sat us out on the upper deck where we had a great view of the bay bridge. We placed and received our drink orders and sadly the weather took a turn for the windy worst. The hostess was awesome and re-seated us downstairs with another lovely view without the threat of the elements.
We were cheerfully informed that we would need to move soon as a large party was coming in shortly. The server took our food order and that's where things took a bit of a strange turn. One of the folks in our party had come in from out of the country and ordered a cup of coffee. We were informed that coffee was not served downstairs and that they would need to order the coffee upstairs. Once upstairs this individual ordered her coffee and was advised that taking coffee downstairs was PROHIBITED by Hemingway's management! Kind of weird but she had her coffee upstairs and came back downstairs where our food had been delayed due to a fight taking place between some of the servers downstairs. Once things settled down our food came and sadly it was no longer warm, but we figured we had to leave since the large party would be arriving soon. The food was fine but would have been better hot.
Having been a server as a young adult, I realize the drama that can ensue between coworkers. However this should not be visible to the public and should not impact the quality of the service or food received by the customers. Our friends were embarrassed by the scene and apologize. It really wasn't that bad.
Great Service, Great Food and the atmosphere was amazing. It was raining but was still nice to sit by the window looking out at the bay. The alcoholic drinks were just ok. I had a lemon blueberry martini and my husband had a grapefruit crush.
Unbeatable view of Chesapeake Bay bridge; lovely restaurant; excellent cream of crab soup and crab cakes!
Hemingway's has AMAZING views and the crab dip was excellent!
Buffalo shrimp tacos were amazing as was the chocolate cheesecake. Chips were stale but overall, the meal was satisfying. The view from the window was great despite the low visibility. The atmosphere was outstanding given the nautical theme.
Great food. Service a bit slow but good when Dede was available. Awesome views of the Chesapeake.
We were driving home from visiting DC and wanted to stop for dinner. Checked the internet and Hemingway's came up with a great rating and had an outdoor deck and a fabulous view. Definitely worth trying. It is a gorgeous location and the staff was perfect. The food was a bit salty (my husband had a special pork roast) and people at the next table over also complained about their dinner being too salty. I had a crab cake which was terrific. Almost didn't matter because the setting and weather was so perfect. We will definitely go back. We shared the key lime pie (which may have been a cheesecake blend - didn't see the menu, so I'm not positive what it was called). Whatever it was, it had key limes and was really delicious and a bit different from most key lime pies. Fabulous way to end a pretty good meal in a simply wonderful location.
Nice view of course, food is ok , you pay for the view. Our server was really bad. And I think she only had 2 tables.
Easter buffet was a delight. We had beautiful views of the Bay and bridge while enjoying our meal. The crab cakes and scalloped potatoes were particularly outstanding as were the desserts!
We went for brunch Easter morning. Great food, great views, Everyone was friendly to one another. I would definately recommend to friends.
Great place. Awesome sunset. Service and food was excellent
I was very pleasant not crowded and had a great view of the bay and bay bridge. Fun and service were very good.
It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was crowded. The kept the door to the outside open and it was really cold. We were sitting at a table where the draft from the outside was blowing on us and we had to ask repeatedly for them to close the door. One of our party had the crab cakes and he said that they were delicious. Another had a burger and asked for it to be cooked medium...it was charred to a crisp. Not one speck of pink in it anywhere and it was tough. I had crab dip which was tasteless and extremely salty. Another had the crab stack and she said it was great.
Maybe just an off night because of the boat show, but definitely not worth the experience for the money. Cold, loud, mediocre food. Disappointing.
Love it will do it again great food great service. Great view.
Felt the food was overpriced, though it was good. View was great. Waiter was accommodating though he seemed to be exceptionally busy. Limited lunch selections.
We loved the scallop appetizers. We also enjoyed the crab cake sandwich which had big pieces of crab and very little breading. We service was a little slow but we were not in a hurry. Great view of the sunset.
Views are amazing, top notch ambience. Food was not to expectation though. Everything was very under seasoned - from the mashed potatoes to the Mahi and crab cake. The burrata caprese was very heavy on the cracked pepper. Was not offered dessert, just given the check.
Nice time--such a beautiful view! Recommend. Dinner entrees are pricey. Other options (sandwiches) are available that are not as expensive.
We got there late. Close to closing hour-the server could not have been more accommodating. The chef prepared a wonderful meal — one of our favorite restaurants!
Our party of 6 had a wonderful experience at Hemingway's. They seated us promptly for our reservation, the service was very friendly, helpful and efficient (checked several times to make sure everything was going well), and the food was delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Carefully crafted fresh seafood dishes served by engaging waitstaff in a waterfront restaurant with a breathtaking view. Friday nite family dinner doesn’t get any better than this!
Enjoyed our lunch at Hemingway's. The waterside view and ambience were both nice. The staff did a good job taking care of us while we were there. Our seafood lunches were both quite tasty. We would both recommend this restaurant and suggest you give it a try if you're in the area.
Beautiful setting, especially at sunset. Nice menus, reasonable prices.
The view is spectacular!
Great food with great views of the bay. The service was very cordial and attentive.
Great ambience and delicious food. Half-price bottles wine was a surprising bonus!
The Salmon Rockefeller had a crisp exterior with a succulent center. Brussels Sprouts are delicious. My wife and I drive across the Bridge for dinner on a regular basis. Hemingways is a favorite
I had the warm spinach salad. It was more like a stew - with potatoes, very little spinach and equal amounts of cooked mushrooms and hard boiled egg. It was good but it wasnt what I was ordered. Overall the food is good and so is the service and the atmosphere is lovely.
Hemingway's is a lovely place. There are all different kinds of options from sandwiches to entrees. We had an informal meal and the food and service were very good. As always the ambience is very nice.
Needed a menu for classy retirement lunch with my boss...Hemingway's fit the bill perfectly.
Food was wonderful. Waitress was very nice, efficient and very accommodating. There were 6 of us and we needed separate checks, she did an excellent job! View of the bay cannot be topped!
Friendly staff, great view (we had reserved a table). Food great - selections from both the Sunday Brunch menu and the regular menu.
AMAZING food and AMAZING view of the sunset over the Chesapeake bay.
We decided to go dinner for Valentine's Day. There was a $99 special (which is a steal for an appetizer each, entree each and dessert each) . We started with the seafood soup. It was filling and delicious. It was full of crabmeat that tasted like they pulled the grab right from the Chesapeake right before serving us. Next was a couple's broiled seafood platter which included lobster tail, oysters Rockefeller, scallops, shrimp, crab cakes, mixed vegetables and red mash potatoes. Everything was cooked to perfection. The lobster was slightly sweet, and the crab cakes were meaty and had little filler. For dessert, he had a slice of coconut cake, which he said tasted like wedding cake and wanted another slice and I had the creamiest Chambord creme brûlée. The topping was glazed just right and again, THE creamiest creme brûlée. I would have loved to take another cup of soup home. We've been here a handful of times but I'm sure we'll come here more often since it took us less than 30 minutes.
Great food. Excellent service. Great value in for food served in an eastern shore ambiance.
This was our third Valentine's Day in a row at Hemingway's. We love this restaurant. We will be back!
Lovely ala cart menu.
Disappointed with the not crisp batter on my fish and chips! French fries regular and sweet potato same thing. Spinach salad less than spectacular. Scallop dinner was good. Less than what it should or could have been.
very nice table by the window with great view of water, dock and bridge. friendly waitress, and good food. one friend dining with us only wanted a crab cake, waitress provided price (rather high for just one crabcake) but then suggested the crabcake sandwich -- a good deal! we'll return again, was only sorry didn't leave room for dessert. Also did not feel rushed to leave. very pleasant.
