Hemenway's Ratings and Reviews
Went to Hemenway's as part of a holiday gift and we really enjoyed our time there. The wait staff was attentive and gave us time to enjoy our meal and especially our wine once we were completed with our food. We would come back here again, but probably only for special occasions are the prices are a bit high for daily dining
Service was fantastic from the second we walked in. All the employees were extremely polite and helpful. The food was great. We came here for restaurant week and we weren't sure if that meant they wouldn't put as much effort into the food as when people are paying full price but that was definitely not the case. As a student it's not often I go to nice restaurants but this one was absolutely worth it.
We were in town for the Patriots game and someone at the hotel suggested we go to your restaurant… We drove in the pouring rain and kept saying I hope it’s worth it! It exceeded our expectations on every level! Our server Lucas was attentive and we were confident of his descriptions of the menu and happy with the results! The ambience was perfect and the food was delicious… I will definitely return!
Hemenway's was recommended to me by my brother, who frequents Providence for pleasure. It was a top notch experience from beginning to end. My lemon sole was better by a factor of ten than a very similar dish I recently had at "that well-known seafood establishment" that has become more of a chain. My Ceasar salad was very good, but nothing special. My daughter had escargot, about which she raved, and lobster mac and cheese that was not only delicious, but a work of art, for it was served in the lobster shell! My husband, not a seafood lover, had a wedge salad and a chicken dish, both of which he said were very good. He also had an outstanding cocktail that was made with a cherry mezcal tequila. The serviced was excellent, and we never felt rushed. If our daughter ends up attending school in Providence, Hemenway's will become our #1 spot to take her for a special meal.
Met mid afternoon for post holiday lunch. Loved the bright open feel: lots of windows with views of the river way . Although we are fans of the Newport Group and frequent many of their restaurants often, do to proximity we aren't as familiar with Hemenway's but plan to return soon to try more dishes!. The power lunch option was a perfect choice for all of us. The Pan Roasted Cod was a favorite of 2 at the table, seafood casserole for 2 others: F was served with everyone's favorite seafood, cod, shrimp and scallops. The fish tacos and Mahi sandwich were also delicious! Loved the zucchini chips, and NE Clam chowder was full of clams, thicker then most of prefer but tasty. Service was well-timed and friendly and offered suggestions when asked.
I don’t think we will be going back. Found a piece of plastic in my soup. No one from the kitchen or management even came over to say anything. Bloody Mary tasted awful and the food just isn’t what it used to be. When we made the reservation we told them it was for a birthday. No mention of it by the waiter. In years past they would always mention it and offer a small dessert.
Delicious meal served by an excellent waiter named Bill. He was extremely helpful with his recommendations and accommodations recommending food allergies.
Definitely a restaurant you can enjoy great food, wonderful atmosphere (not noisy) and have a great evening with the BEST service around!!!
Our server, Alex was great. He was personable, knowledgeable about the menu items and also could rattle of the characteristics of the oysters being served that night. The next time I go to Hemenways I will ask for Alex. Great service makes the evening and Alex made our night very enjoyable.
The staff was amazing. We were running behind due to a problem at our hotel. I called the restaurant and spoke with the hostess she said no worries we will hold the kitchen and let them know your on the way. On our arrival we were seated and greeted by our server Teresa. Teresa was amazing she was very informative and her dinner recommendations couldn’t have been better. Thank you Teresa for making our first visit outstanding and we will be back!!!
The food was not worth the prices. Some dishes were fine, others were downright tasteless. $68 for a rubbery lobster with ritz crackers crumbled, two hard shrimp and two scallops. Our server was very attentive and the drinks were well made. I was expecting a level of dining experience much higher and refined from the website descriptions.
My husband and I went to Hemenway’s on 12/31/17 before theater. Alex was a wonderful server. Excellent knowledge of wine. We had oysters first followed by splitting the wedge salad and homemade lobster agnolotti. Dishes were split perfectly and the wine suggested was perfect. Key lime pie for dessert was delicious. I had not been to Hemenway’s in a year and we had a great experience.
Hemenway's lived up to its reputation as a solid go-to for fresh seafood in unremarkable combinations (crab cakes, fresh oysters, surf and turf) for my father's birthday. Excellent service as always and a lovely location. Short but reasonable wine list. That said, the bouillabaisse (billed as a seafood stew in a saffron and garlic broth) was so salty as to be practically inedible. Couldn't taste the fish at all. A bad slip up for a restaurant that should at least be reliable.
We had a wonderful time @ Hemingway’s and would definitely go back! They made our first Anniversary so special! We loved the rose petals and complimentary champagne.
Service and food were excellent! It is always consistent there. Thank you! Happy New Year 2018!
From my glass of champagne to my last bite of Creme Brûlée, everything was delicious! I had the special, salmon, and I loved the Asian fusion flavors in the dish. Very unexpected, but delicious. Our waiter, Sean, was wonderful. He always made a point to check in with us. Sean was very professional and polite. I will definitely be back. Keep up the great service and eligant food!
This was our 19th consecutive year we spend Christmas Eve at Hemenways and we have never been disappointed! Not our favorite table sitting on the bar platform, the bar was not crowded which made it the location more acceptable. The service was exceptional but the the food - my George's Banks Scallops were exceptional, my wife's stuffed shrimp prepared to perfection and my granddaughter's filet prepared exactly the way she requested. All had a very nice presentation and were fresh out of the kitchen, all just the right temperature. Oh, the drinks...just right for the night.
