Hemenway's Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant always goes above and beyond. It is the reason why I am constantly coming back for more. My girlfriend and I dine here every anniversary. In the past the wait staff has placed rose petals on the table, offered a complimentary dessert, but this time we were given a champagne toast accompanying our plate of oysters. I will always be thankful for the wonderful service and making every anniversary, birthday, and graduation dinner so so special. You all know how to treat a customer, not the mention the food is top notch.
We have enjoyed Hemenway's for a number of years now and have enjoyed a number of their menu items. Our expectations have always been exceeded. The requests made have been from both lunch, dinner, and daily special menus. Occasionally repeating choices in hopes of savoring the experience again never has been a disappointment.
We went to Providence for the Water Fires and decided to have dinner before hand. We were not disappointed. The food was fabulous and Sara our waitress very knowledgeable and friendly. My husband and I had the Halibut special and it was cooked to perfection. Our other guests each had a steak and also their steaks were cooked perfectly. My only disappointment if I had to say was the dessert. A flourless something or other which was a bit tasteless. It looked beautiful but did not really have any flavor. I would recommend this restaurant and go back again.
It's where wealthy people go to have poor quality food. If you told me everything was microwaved in the back I would believe you. The food was subpar at best, definitely not worth the price. I had lobster ravioli. It was not even the second best in a 2-mile radius but by far the most expensive. Don't go.
Our visit to Providence was perfect, but Hemenway's made it amazing! As a former JWU student, I was excited to hear the manager was also an Alum during my search for the perfect dining experience. Sarah took care of us, and allowed us plenty of time to look at the menu, as well as Making sure we were happy the entire time. The timing between our salad, and the meal was perfect, and we felt we could enjoy ourselves without the rush to leave that we've experienced at other locations. Save room for dessert, and a coffee! We will be going back to Hemenway's on our return trip down!
Great experience with delicious food and fantastic service. I have two restaurant pet peeves, one is having the food runner ask who has what order and the other is not having the water glass kept full. I can honestly say that neither one was an issue at Hemenway's. How delightful to have excellent food with service that was attentive but not overbearing. Highly recommended!!
The first night of our trip was in Providence and the hotel highly recommended the restaurant which was only a short distance from it. Fantastic seafood!!! Had crab cakes for appetizer followed by scallops for me and seafood pasta for my wife. Our server was very helpful and attentive.
We were excited to return and celebrate our annivsary. this was the restaurant where we got endagded. Service was goid but we both felt the menu limited and uncreative. I had the chefs special salmon. It was cooked well but dry and the presentation was lacking. My husband had the paella which he thought ok but something was missing.
I typically do not take time to write reviews but I must say that my dining experience at Hemenways this past week was so delightful I had to take the time to share. It was my husband's birthday and then we were going to see Les Miserables so it was a special evening. Kira, our server, was extremely pleasant, had a fluid knowledge of all of the offerings, anticipated what we might need or want well in advance, and her suggestions for dinner and dessert choices were perfect. The food was creative, perfectly cooked, full of unique flavors and aesthetically pleasing. Bravo to all there who made that night so lovely !
We had a wonderful celebration for our 40th anniversary. Red rose petals on the table and complimentary glasses of champagne. Our waiter Lucas couldn't have been more attentive and the food was delicious. It was exactly as we would have expected. They are always top notch.
Hemenway's was absolutely wonderful. I took my boyfriend there as a surprise lunch date and he and I ate like a king and queen! This place is primarily known for seafood, and definitely didn't disappoint. Since it's seafood, expect those kind of prices. Overall the best parts we got were the oysters, the fresh Lobster and Crab cakes, and the Fishermans style Lobster. Just as great as the food, was our waiter Jeff. Jeff took his time explaining all of the specials well and joining in conversation with us foodies about the different types of Oysters they had that day, all local! He also signed us up to be a part of the food group rewards program that Hemenway's is associated with. He was definitely wonderful, thanks Jeff!
Will be going again in the near future!
The reservation led to prompt seating :) Although the ambiance was great it was not matched by the demeanor of the server. The presence of the server has a big effect on the experience of the customer. There is certainly room for improvement here. Being a server in my opinion entails smiles, a conversation, and recommendations with your order (i.e. if you order the salmon, then the server could clarify that it is a fairly thin strip of fish so customer can gauge if it is appropriate for his/her appetite). The appetizer (lobster & crab cake) was tasty but the entree (Paella) was quite bland. The best service came from the host(s) upon entry and exit go the restaurant.
