Executive Chef Hugh Horner takes his inspiration from the creative spirit of Helsinki, his love of the bountiful Hudson Valley, and his southern ancestry to create a farm-to-table Low-Country cuisine with a strong Louisiana influence, making the familiar extraordinary.
Beautiful interior, chill vibe. Fried Brussel Sprouts were outstanding, as were the oysters. Nice local beer selection. Veggie Burger could have used some help and would be great to see a vegan main. Scallops were overcooked.
Current menu is a BBQ and Fish arrangement, though they still have a fried chicken, steak and other standards. We went with BBQ, the ribs were tender, smokey, with a salty dry rub. They provide four sauces - white, mustard, spicy and sweet. The sausage was good sized and had some heat in the spice mix. The chopped brisket was very tender, not very lean, but light on flavor.
Ambience is dark with a candlelit look. A nice quiet evening as there were no acts in the cabaret side.
It was Valentines Day but no special menu.
How very disappointing this visit was in food and service (on Valentine's Day, for which we had reservations). Restaurant wasn't crowded.
Initial service was great - we were brought water and had drink order taken fairly soon after seating. Appetizers were very good - smoked trout pate and pork belly, however what followed was poor. My wife ordered a hamburger and I 'Aunt Theo's Fried Chicken'. The chicken was SO salty it couldn't be eaten (I tried!). Getting attention of wait person was frustrating (she came to ask how dinner was immediately after our plates were set but didn't return). Finally, getting her attention, we advised of incredible amount of salt in batter, to which she replied there had been another complaint and asked if I would like to order something else. OK, that was fine and I ordered brisket ends. My wife finished her meal before mine arrived (there clearly was no consideration for having replacement dinner a priority in the kitchen). My dinner finally arrived, tasty, but more fat than meat.
No one returned to fill water glass or ask if we'd like more (we did), or would like something else from the bar (we had to track wait person down), and then it took another 15 minutes on a night not crowded to have that provided (as we watched the wait person chat with other servers at the bar).
It will be a VERY LONG TIME before we return for dinner at Helsinki.
Always a great experience. Loved the grilled fish. Tasty fries. Friendly service and a beautiful atmosphere. A Hudson favorite.
Food good/very good. The place is physically beautiful down to every last detail. Wish there were cabaret shows again. Went to some in the past and they were great.
I'm seventy and have frequented fine restaurants for several decades, and Helsinki was one of the most outstanding dining experiences I've ever had.
I enjoyed the food on Saturday night, I had a date and she also liked the place. We are planning to come back later.
Small plates/ bar apps were well prepared. Sprouts, pork belly both really delicious. Shrimp and grits were good but lacked Southern flavor.

I WAS very disappointed in the food, and I had been looking forward to it. I THOUGHT IT WAS OVERPRICED FOR WHAT YOU GOT. THE APPETIZERS WE HAD - PORK BELLY AND FIGS - WERE QUITE FEW AND VERY BORING IN FLAVOR. 26.95 FOR THE PULLED PORK WAS PRICEY AS THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OF ANYTHNING ONT HE PLATE AND IT ALSO LACKED FLAVOR. I HAD MUSSELS WHICH WERE AN INTERESTING IDEA COMBINED WITH BITS OF HAM, BUT I DIDN'T THINK IT WORKED.
THE AMBIENCE IS GREAT. IF I WERE A DRINKER, I"D BE HANGING AT THE BAR. LOVE THE ROOM.
Always a fun experience, great service, great food in a beautiful building with a cozy atmosphere.

In Hudson for a quick getaway, and this place was recommended by our host. The food was pretty good (though they need a lesson on how to properly prepare fried green tomatoes - hint they were sliced way too thick), but the portions were on the small side. Good thing we weren't starving. The well-intentioned waitstaff did their best. I had the sampler and my wife had the Alabama chicken. They managed to get her order wrong, so it had to go back, leaving us hanging for a bit. I'm glad it wasn't too crowded - as it was Tuesday - or it would have taken even longer. Nonetheless, we had a delightful evening. The space is lovely, and the vibe was friendly.
Food and service were both great. There was a wedding reception going on upstairs the night we attended, so things were (understandably) quite loud, which was the only drawback to an otherwise terrific experience.
Unlikely to return, as I live in Montreal, but would not hesitate to if ever I find myself in Hudson again.
The restaurant features an unusual combination of fish dishes and southern barbecue. Shared hushpuppy appetizer was tasty.
We were late because of an Amtrak delay. The front desk staff was helpful and accommodating. The table service was fabulous and the food was the usual good quality BBQ, comfort food we have come to expect.
My brother is getting married at Helsinki soon and I wanted to try the food. It was amazing, the brisket burnt ends and pulled pork were our favorite. The corn bread is amazing too. Honestly you can’t go wrong with anything you get. The wine and cocktails were awesome too. I’d highly recommend, the vibe is cozy and very hipster/cool.
The restaurant atmosphere was very exceptional. We had the opportunity to experience a large lightning storm while in the restaurant Which made the ambience even more pronounced in a positive manner. Food and staff were exceptional, and I highly recommend this restaurant.

I think the problem with many restaurants in the Hudson Valley is that they don’t expect visitors before Thursday. The restaurant was out of many of the menu items and was terribly understaffed on the Wednesday we were there. The food was okay, not terrible, but the drinks were made with a Local vodka that tasted like moonshine and that was quite terrible. I’m sure the music venue is nice, but I would not recommend the restaurant.
Another wonderful evening at Helsinki. We love the trout pate’, grilled fish, fries, catfish sandwich, ribs. It’s all great. And the service is friendly, the atmosphere is comfy and the bar offerings are great as well. They offer Nine Pin Ginger, my fav!!
The outside dining area was rustic and charming. We had good cocktails and we loved the food and the presentation. Scallops sauteed in a scallion butter sauce came in a small cast iron pan. The roast chicken with all of the barbecue sauces was well prepared and was tasty. All of the sides, including very good mashed potatoes and properly done vegetables came in 1-cup measuring cups - very cute. We will return on our next visit to Hudson.
Little known secret: Helsinki is one of the beat places in Hudson for fish. Out server was a first rate professional.
Our dining experience at Helsinki exceeded our expectations. Our server, Jessica, was genuinely friendly and went out of her way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. The presentation of the food was only upstaged by how delicious it was. The cocktails were inventive and delicious. Will be coming back as soon as we can.
We had an incredible experience! Excellent service the food was wonderful we were celebrating our daughter’s 30th birthday and the staff there made it very special.
We visited several recommended restaurants in Hudson and this was our favorite. Delicious southern cuisine with a relaxed vibe. Attentive and knowledgeable servers. Great indoor decor with lovely outdoor seating, too. We'll be back!
What a disappointment. The server was incompetent, ( although I suspect it was partially the kitchen’s fault, the food was inconsistent and the service was lousy.

Another great dinner at Helsinki Hudson. It’s a favorite spot for us when we are in town. Food is consistently excellent and the menu changes often. I had soft shell crab and hubby had the grilled fish. I love that they offer Nine Pin Ginger Cider & my husband loves their beer selection. Service is friendly and professional and the dining room is just so welcoming and comfortable.
we absolutely loved the vibe of this place, but the food was disappointing given the description. it was solid typical bbq food, but nothing special (where does the "Helsinki" part come in?). would go again with a big group, and share plates -- one dish is way too much for one person.

For what it is, basically a BBQ joint and a music venue, the food and service are both excellent. The ribs are worth a trip! If you care about the source of your food this place is for you (as it is for me). They leverage local farms as much as possible.

Such a loving and family arm aesthetic. Our waiter Jon was such a doll! The food was so fresh and comforting. Totally worth the trip and the time! Best ending to a great Saturday night!

I was so pleased with our meals at Helsinki Hudson. We went prior to a (amazing!) show at the Club. The service was friendly and efficient. The meals were flawless. Not one complaint.
Because our group of 7 trickled in, service was a little off (waiting for people, etc). However, the food and drinks were incredible as usual. i always find myself trying things way outside my comfort zone at Helsinki, and I don't think I've been disappointed. It was quite loud for the day after Christmas, but then again, so are we! Most of us got the burger and we devoured them. Come for the drinks, stay for the food! Everyone loved the collard greens, The smoked shrimp pate was to die for!
We had a wonderful quiet evening. The drinks were very good and my wife and I each had the steak entree. We both agreed that it was one of the best steaks we have had in a long time.
We went here for a getaway weekend for our one year anniversary. The food and atmosphere were romantic and special for the occasion!
