Awesome food. Service was rather slow.
Our overall experience was very good. The mussels were awesome! Very cool niche restaurant. The entree selections are limited relative to other restaurants. However, you all the bases are covered.
We went to Helen's for my girlfriend's birthday. We had never been before. Our table was in the back corner and very private, which we liked. It was romantic. We split a couple of small plates, pork belly and beets with plums, and one entree, shrimp and grits. Our meal was absolutely delicious. The pork belly is so flavorful and the beets were orange and wonderful. The shrimp came with grits made with gouda, I think, and a gravy type sauce that added flavor to a dish that is often bland. I am sincere when I say that the food is exquisite in preparation and taste. We will certainly be returning.
The chef here, Clay, understands food and how to concoct the perfect dish that hits the mark every time. If you are weary of uninteresting food and pretentious foam Helen’s will satisfy your craving for true gourmet fare. Every friend we have taken here has become a fan.
Helens is amazing everytime! Its my favorite resturant.
Helens has always been my favorite dinner service in Richmond, VA. Chef Clay is passionate about every dish he sends out, and it shows— in your tastebuds. The service is unparalleled and always fantastic. Who needs Olive Garden? Because when you’re at Helens, you’re family.
We went to Helen’s for Fall Restaurant Week and were pleased with the quality of our meal as well as the excellent service that we received.
Everything was excellent, from the food, to the atmosphere, and the service was amazing!
Helen’s is still a hidden jewel in the Richmond restaurant scene. Went for restaurant week and left completely satisfied. Service only matched by the food. Will return
Excellent atmosphere, outstanding service, exceptional food for Richmond Restaurant week - can't wait for spring/fall to go back again.
The cauliflower and mussels small plates were delicious along with the crusty bread for dipping in the excellent butter sauce from the mussels! Will be back!
Menu selections were limited, food was only fair...disappointed.
We had the small plates, but they are quite ample. Cauliflower was scrumptious; calamari tender; mussels in magical broth: truffle risotto incredible.
The Sumac-roasted carrots were absolutely outstanding! The entrees ( the vegetarian bucatini and the shrimp and grits) were good, just very filling. Lots of incredible flavors going on here. I will say that they definitely need to hire more front of the house staff - our waitress was also the busser, the hostess, and the bartender! Since it was a slower night I can understand that, but it did mean we had to wait about 15 minutes for our check when we were very clearly done. Will definitely be back though!
The server took so long every step of the way and the wait for the food was way too long. Huge flies all over the place also made the atmosphere seem dirty and gross.
Frankie did a nice job, food was great - we tried several dishes...to include the calamari, mussels and beets...nice evening - Thank You.
Three of us ordered the halibut and we all felt it was dry
Nice ambience and food was OK but seasonings and sauces were far too complex and overdone to appreciate the unique flavours. Simple is often better. Service was slow but attentive. Price was rather on the high side for quality of the food. Overall OK but far better choices in Richmond
We always try to get to Helens when we go to Richmond. They have great drinks, a varied menu and everything is delicious. We had the pasta special, a cheeseburger and the duck. Everyone enjoyed their meals.
The calamari app was
Helen’s was a pleasant experience. Casual dining in a neighborhood setting would be my best description. Food and service were good. Dessert menu was very limited.
Always great food at a very fair price
Helen's has great food and character. Service was great!
Took my best friend here for dinner and it was the first time here for the both of us. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. We each got a burger: she got the fries & I had a salad. Food was very good and we enjoyed cold cider with our meal. Atmosphere and staff were pleasant and we did not feel rushed to leave.
We treated our friends from out of state to one of RVA’s best culinary experiences - Helen’s ! It’s Richmond’s oldest too. Quaint, personable and friendly. The food is fabulous. What a great treat in the Fan.
High quality food. Excellent! Will definitely go back. .
Fabulous entrees great service Helen's is the best
Helen’s is usually our favorite, but this time was a disappointment. We did bring our children this time instead of a group of adults, so I’m wondering if that played a role. The service was fair. The appetizers were excellent, as usual. The burgers were not nearly as juicy as usual, and my daughter’s halibut was brought out over 30 min after the other entrees and we had all already finished our meals. Fortunately, they did take that off the hill, but I expected better, especially after having had so many great experiences there. .
Delicious dinner. Very attentive service. Maybe music a bit loud but not too much to be heard talking. Will definitely go back
We've been coming to Helen's for years and they never disappoint.
It's where we go for special occasions or just to have a drink and enjoy one of the best burgers in town.
Amazing food and gracious service in a delightful atmosphere.
We had a marvelous experience at Helen’s. The food, service and atmosphere were perfect. Helen’s never disappoints. Thanks Helen!
Every time we dine at Helen’s we have a wonderful experience. The cuisine is innovative and exceptionally well prepared. The service is warm and highly professional. The atmosphere is lovely. Most cities would be happy to have one restaurant has finals this. We enjoy Helen’s as an exceptional neighborhood spot.
great food - varied menu - outstanding service ----
Menu improved from our last visit several months ago and the food was excellent as always - recommended and will return soon
Great experience all around and the food was unbelievably tasty! We'll be back soon!
Burgers were not cooked as requested and were dry. Bibb salad was good, and soft shell crab sandwich was good.
Was told on the phone a couple of weeks before our reservation that they were handicap accessible. They are not. They didn't seem to care that we were given bad information. Service was slow on a light evening. Food was wonderful, but the disabled person in my party had a very hard time getting in and no one offered to help.
We waited for our appetizer for over 1 hour. No excuse. Our main course
My family were in town, and I wanted them to experience RVA dining... I had previously heard a lot of good reviews for Helen's, and it was a restaurant I had been intended to try for myself, being a nineteen-year Richmond resident... Overall, the food was good and our service was knowledgeable and friendly. However, we found the menu rather sparse and limited, which made it difficult to please the whole party.
Perhaps I will return to try for myself again...
Food and service are consistently good. It has a neighborly feel and is a popular spot. Easy place to know you will always get a good meal.
