Heirloom Restaurant is the product of Chef Clark Barlowe's North Carolina farm community upbringing and years of global travel. All ingredients that are brought in to Heirloom come from NC farms or producers, prompting a style best described as: Locally Sourced, Globally Inspired. This style of farm to table dining at Heirloom extends far beyond simply the food. From the Cocktail list focused strictly on NC distilleries, the wine list made up completely of NC vintages, the beer list sourcing only local craft breweries from Charlotte and the surrounding area, to the house music supplied from NC artists, Heirloom is North Carolina's restaurant.

Heirloom Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I had a Groupon to use so we booked a table at Heirloom on a Friday night. There was a large group having it seemed like a Christmas party in the main area but we were seated in a smaller room off to the side which kept the noise level down. Our servers were very prompt and attentive. We split the tasting menu and had it paired with wine. In addition, we started off with a special cocktail each and shared the lightning cakes, delicious mushroom based nibbles. The wine paired with the tasting menu was excellent and each course was so tasty! By the end, I was so full and very happy that we shared the tasting menu. I would recommend Heirloom in a heartbeat to anyone who has a special occasion because they do make it very special!
We made a reservation for Friday night for anniversary (drove from wingate to experience NC’s finest local cuisine) and they neglected to mention 1/2 of the restaurant was reserved for a Christmas party. We spent most of our meal paying attention to the loud fun they were having instead of enjoying our anniversary dinner. We also waited about ten minutes to be greeted by our server which was frustrating. Ordering the tasting menu was probably a mistake, while it was good, it wasn’t very exciting and seemed like the most basic items from their menue.
This place is truly a hidden gem. Tonight was our first time dining here and we were very pleased. The service was outstanding, the food was delectable, and the ambiance was very nice; it was such a welcome change from the majority of restaurants in the area, where table conversation competes with loud music, where service is lacking, and where the menu offerings are unimaginative and, oftentimes, unpalatable. Heirloom is more than a cut above the rest; it's an experience, not a trough. Looking forward to our next visit!
We have been to this restaurant several times over the last few years.
The food has always been spectacular and the service was top notch.
They went through some reshuffling apparently in January 2017. The food is still pretty good but not quite on par with what it was previous. The service wasn't quite as good. There use to be a bread cart and you could select what you liked. Now they bring you each one piece of bread and that is it.
For the $100 per person it isn't really worth it anymore.

My wife and I absolutely love this place. We had our wedding reception here and just celebrated our first wedding anniversary there as well. The food is and excellent and the handcrafted cocktails from the bartender Dexter are on point. They also say that any dietary restrictions can be accommodated with enough of a heads up. This is a place that should definitely be in the rotation if you enjoy good food.
Fantastic. One of the better meals/experiences I have had in some time. 6 course meal was better than I expected. No idea what was coming, which made the experience even better....as it would usually be something I would not order off a menu on my own. I was experiencing new things. And they were great.
We used our Groupon to experience the tasting menu. Everything was delicious. We started with the root vegetable salad, then the butternut squash soup, on to the fried chicken, shrimp and grits, the cheese plate, and finally the yummy dessert. Go hungry and expect to be there a couple hours.
Everything about this place was amazing, the service was spectacular, the food was fresh and delicious. The history behind each dish helped close the deal . This place is a foodies utopia. My husband stated this food was like being at a 3D movie so bring your 3D appetite .....
I really wanted to like this place....
Biscuits to start were very dry & bland. No flavor at all.
"Lump" crab cake looked like it was commercially made like you would buy at the grocery store prepackaged. You know, too perfect for hand made at a restaurant kind of look. No lumps just some strands of meat. Maybe the worst I have ever had. Flavor not good & texture not right.
Slaw with the crab cake was not good either. Just bad flavor.
The bland rice under the cake & slaw was my favorite thing, only because it didn't taste bad.
I didn't eat much of the crab cake or slaw. The waiter never noticed until we were ready for the check. I tried to let it go, telling him it was fine & I just didn't like it. He kept pushing for more details even though I just wanted him to let it go. He took it off the bill in the end. I didn't ask, but he did. Then he apologized about 5 times. Once is enough, let it go. It is getting annoying.
My wife had the fish, not sure what kind, but it was pretty good. The rest of her dish was just OK she said.
A friend had some risotto, which she said was pretty good, but she could make at home. She said one oyster was good & the other wasn't as good.
Most things were either under or over salted. I know "fine dining" often means no salt & pepper on the table, but it was needed here. If you are not going to season correctly, you should provide it.
$85ish + tip for 2 entrees, 2 oysters, a salad & 3 drinks. Pricey for the quality we thought.
Our 2nd time here & neither has been very good. We decided it will be our last. Food is not that good for the price.
Although the service and ambience were exceptional, we were not impressed by the food. We had expected much higher quality, given the high ratings Heirloom gets as a "foodie" paradise. My spouse's crab cake was almost inedible--very bready and a little "old" tasting--and her salad came saturated in dressing. My meal--the red drum special--was better. The whole wheat biscuits seemed like a nice touch, but they were a bit dried out. We did really appreciate the lovely touches for our anniversary, however--a complimentary glass of champagne and some sweets at the end of the meal. And as a same-sex couple, we very much appreciated the welcome we received. Still, our overall impression was that, although the place was charming and welcoming, we have had much better meals elsewhere.
My wife and I have been there for the last 3 years for our anniversary and have had a great experience. This time was a bit less of the thrill we were expecting. We understand that everyone has a bad day from time to time so all is forgiven. We were compensated and were ok with it.. Overall we will most likely come back.
What a find, just a short drive from our airport hotel! The Pastry Chef’s breads & desserts outstanding, creative & unique. Menu creative & food delicious. If you love food adventure this is a must!!! Staff also friendly & accommodating!!! Top notch experience!
The food and service were great. This restaurant specializes in all NC products and has a rustic interior. I went with the 6 course tasting menu and wine pairing. The food was delicious but none of the items were actually on the menu. The salad and soup course were fantastic, the app of calamari had great flavor but was chewy. The duck entree was the best duck dish i have had. The deconstructed pumpkin cheesecake was fantastic. The cheese course of cheesy popcorn was a bit of a disappointment. The wine pairings were great and good size.
Wow, they did it again! Another wonderful experience at Heirloom. Service was fantastic and made my birthday special by bringing me milk and cookies. Food was amazing except I didn't care for the fish...very salty. It was the first thing I haven't liked there in 4 visits. We did the 6 course option. Salad great, soup amazing, liked 1 main course (Heirloom chicken and slaw) but not the fish, loved cheese and jam and dessert. Overall exquisite!
Our first trip to Heirloom so we were excited. Upon arrival, we were greeted immediately. We were the seated shortly thereafter. The service was attentive and professional. We both ordered appetizers followed by entrees. The food was fresh and prepared tastefully. Overall, a good value and would recommend to others.
The service was excellent and they made us feel extra special for our anniversary date. The food was great and we are very glad they source their food from local farms. My wife and I have dinned at most of the top rated restaurants in Charlotte, Asheville and Charleston. This restaurant ranks up there as one of the best. We will definitely return.
Our dinner was superb as usual. The menu at Heirloom is so creative. Our waiter was very attentive without being overbearing. The only glitch in our otherwise very enjoyable evening was our reservation. We made it on open table and I got a confirmation. Somehow that information was not forwarded to the restaurant. When I showed them my confirmation they couldn't have been more accommodating. At the end of our meal our waiter brought us a complimentary dessert and apologized for the mixup. My first bad experience with open table.
My only issue was that it took us over 2 hours to eat. We did order the 6 course tasting menu so I'm not sure if that plays into to amount of time. I felt the waiter kept forgetting about us, like when to get the next course started in the kitchen. I'm not sure if they didn't have enough staff or maybe he is a new waiter? Overall we will definitely be back, the food is amazing!
I had heard many good things and we finally decided to celebrate a birthday there. What an amazing experience.
We were the first to arrive that night, about 10 minutes ahead of our 6:00 reservation. As we knew from other review, the outside was nothing special, but the inside was perfect. The vibe was exactly what farm-to-table dictates... Rustic, home, comfortable.
Mark's service was impeccable, although he struggled with the the menu some as it was first night. The food was phenomenal, although we shied away from the tasting menu... We got much more for the same price a la carte.
We will definitely return.
