Heirloom Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Nice to walk into Heirloom Cafe on a wet and cold Wednesday night and settle into our seats. Attentive waitstaff and interesting menu... my wife had the fettuccine with the pork sugo and I had the black cod. Wine list was excellent and our server’s recommendations for each of our meals was spot on... already looking forward to our next visit...
The Food & Service here are excellent, and the vibe is warm and kind, but there are some challenges. The lighting is extremely low, unless you get a table next the kitchen, so bring a flashlight. There is no acoustic treatment and the place gets very loud, so be prepared to shout or else come really early or really late. It's worth overcoming these small hurdles, it's an experience not to be missed.
While the food and the service were great, the noise was so out of control in the restaurant I will not be returning. I️ shouted at my friends for 2 hours at a table of 5. If you like yelling across a table and eating in the dark this is your go to restaurant, if not, don’t bother.
Heirloom Café has been my favorite restaurant in the city for the last four years. Anytime someone is visiting, I tell them they have to eat here. They take reservations and walk ins, so you can find a spot most nights of the week. The owner, Matt, is one of my favorite people in the world - thoughtful, funny and passionate about food. And all that carries over to the food. It's crazy to me how many spots in SF get rave reviews, when their food and ambiance pale in comparison to Heirloom's. If you like showy, tiny bites, topped with weird essence-of-foam, this is NOT the place for you. Heirloom doesn't care about fanfare. They do food simply and they do it right. Everything on the menu is fresh, delicious, and - most of all - comforting. The ingredients are seasonal and the wine list never disappoints. This is by far and away the best dining experience you can have in San Francisco.
Delicious food! Not a huge menu, but focus on seasonal ingredients with a real creative twist. Impressive wine list, as well. Only complaint is that I ate too much to order dessert!

I was definitely a card-carrying member of the 'clean plate club'.
We love Heirloom. Our return visit, and first since late Spring. All was amazing, just as our previous visit. Totally impressed with the freshness of the salads, the inventiveness of the main dishes--the gnocchi incredible--and the care in selection of the 'per glass' wines. The service is also first rate with the servers very knowledgeable about all the dishes and their ingredients. We'd award it a 6th star if one were available.
Amazing, delicious, cozy and relaxing. I had the apple cabbage salad and halibut , both were out of this world delicious . They were great about my gluten and dairy free restrictions. The wine was perfect. And the service was top notch. An absolute perfect night!!! Thank you heirloom cafe!!
Wow!!! Fabulous dinner while we are on vacation in San Francisco. I had heard this was a wonderful place, and the meal lived up to the hype. The service was warm and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding. The vibe is casual but elegant. We had a wonderful table at the back of the dinning room that allowed me to survey the whole scene. Diners looked happy. We saw lots of regulars which is always a good sign. We will be back.
While the food and wine are excellent. There is apparently a time limit on the tables. The hostess informed me that despite my having made a reservation a week prior, our table was needed at a certain time, so we skipped desert and went elsewhere for desert drinks. Although we made it out on time, this added an unnecessary stressor to what was supposed to be a relaxing date night.
Great food and service. Tables are well-placed, not lined up and tightly packed like at many places these days, but the room was still unusually noisy, for a small, seemingly intimate place. Still, the menu was interesting, the food tasty, and the service excellent.
