Tasty food with an interesting menu. Try the off menu cheeseburger if it's available. Everything was delicious.
We go for dinner quite often. The staff are friendly and helpful. They often give us a free taste of new wine or an extra bite of something the chef has cooked that evening. The food is always fresh made with seasonal ingredients. The only down side is that it can be crowded and hard to get a weekend reservation.
Wonderful people great food and outstanding wines.
Warm service, great food, great wine list.
Amazing food. Terrific service. Love this place!!! The menu is always fresh and creative, utilizing the best of the season.
This is my favorite place to dine in San Francisco. Amazing hospitality, delicious food and great wines.
Food and service are great! Nice wine list and a happening place!
I have been to Heirloom a few times and it never is disappointing. Chris, our waiter, could suggest the best wines to go with our meals and he was so friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone and I will now be a frequent visitor there.
My favorite restaurant in SF delivered again. Outstanding food, service, and atmosphere as always.
One of the top creative restaurants in SF. Foodie heaven. Extremely knowledgeable staff. Stunning wine cellar. As good as Cal cuisine gets. Only negative is the acoustics. If you’re there early or late, it’s great for a date. But during the main hours it’s like a bomb, you just can’t hear Anything. But whatever, the food and wine make up for that.
Is good food enough?
Why do restaurants have "those tables" where your view is nothing more than a bus station and cashier's area, or the table you're sat at is next to where diners gather while waiting for a table, swarming around your table and bumping into you while you're trying to have a date. God forbid you should complain, because you will be looked at with incredulity.
In other words, be careful where you're seated at Heirloom.
Really a nice restaurant. Great service. My wife and I like to share dishes and so the kitchen split everything into separate plates! Flavors were good and each dish was presented beautifully. Not sure this is allowed to mention another restaurant in a review but I dearly love Francis and I put this restaurant in the same class food wise. But I prefer Heirloom’s ambiance to the noisy sometimes hectic feeling of Francis.
One of the best meals I have had in a while! I always enjoy my meals there.
Heriloom was really a disappointment. the positive Chronicle 5/18 review was very positive. My husband ordered the fixed price meal of green salad, steak, & dessert w/wine pairing@ $80. I ordered the bacon onion tart @$12 & the main course duck salad @$31. the tart was v.small & flavorful with a flakey crust. My husband enjoyed his salad, but I noticed it had a pronounced flavor of licorice from chervil, an unusual inclusion in a salad.
Unforunately my salad also included a large quantity of chervil, which completely unbalanced the overall flavor. In addition, the duck tasted flat and unpleasant, & did not marry well with the other ingredients of cheese & fruit. Considering how small it was, I don't believe the salad was well priced. When I sent it back, the waiter offered to make another dish. My experience has been by the time the new dish arrives, my dinner partner has already finished his/her food, so we end up watching each other eat.
When I told the waiter the flavor of chervil was too strong, he indicated I should have noted this in advance. Since chervil is not generally used in salads, nor was it listed on the menu (although clearly put in Heirloom's salads as a matter of course) I didn't think the responsibility was on me to inquire about it. If rosemary or cilantro were used in a dish in which one didn't generally expect it, however, I think it would be listed on the menu.
Although my husband was generally satisfied with his dinner ("it was ok, not great") we both decided, based on the overall expense, particularly $31 for a small "main course" salad, not to return. BTW I was a chef & my husband was a waiter in the bay area, we eat out often, & live in SF. I understand about pricing&food cost margins. I felt blamed for failing to ask the waiter about an atypical ingredient I couldn't have known was included in a salad, and treated as picky because I sent it back. I truly wanted to like Heirloom, but was just unable to do so.
Incredible, intimate, romantic dinner! The menu of the day with three glasses of wine was perfect to share with an extra entre and app for my boyfriend and me. Definitely recommend for a special occasion!
Heirloom does not disappoint!!
Always delicious food, stellar service and the wine list is amazing!!
Although under the radar, without doubt one of SF’s best restaurants. Unfussy, delicious food, responsive service, and one of the best reasonably priced wine lists in the Bay Area. I’ve never had anything but a wonderful experience.
Incredible food and flavor combinations; great wine pairing; the perfect level of service and knowledge. All make for a really good comfortable meal.
One of the better meals I've ever had in San Francisco. Beautiful use of ingredients and fantastic wine menu. Highly recommend!
Fabulous fresh food and great service. Nice wine choices either separately or paired.
We enjoyed the prix fixe menu, food was delicious, well-prepared, served very well. The wine pairing is a great idea: although I was disappointed with the red (had been hoping for a French wine...), and also with the cloying dessert wine. Would like to come again with a few people, and have bottles of wine (to taste and savor some of those great bottles not served by the glass),
Wait staff kept a close eye on us, food was delivered as requested and not rushed, wine list is not large or particularly expensive but well considered with everything available by the glass. We both thought everything was delicious.
Food was ok, nothing fantastic. The portions were very small. Really liked the ambiance but got a bit of rude attitude (rolled eyes) from the server for splitting checks
Heirloom Cafe is a gem. We had a lovely evening spent sharing excellent food. The service was outstanding. We will recommend Heirloom Cafe to friends and plan to return soon.
Food was delectably as always, and the service was amazing... a bit loud but otherwise another great experience at Hierloom
Always a pleasure! Such a nice neighborhood gem. The food is fresh and the staff is professional and mature and always kind.
Going to Heirloom is like going home. It is one of our "go too" spots in San Francisco. Comfortable, great service, great food and wine, and so easy. It feels like a reward at
the end of the day.
Heirloom's dishes are delicious and creative without being over-the-top odd or expensive. The corn soup was sublime. The scallops were perfect. We want to come have the gnocci with braised lamb just about every day for the rest of our lives. Service is excellent -- efficient, friendly, knowledgeable -- and there are a number of excellent wines available by the glass at very reasonable prices.
I especially liked the seared scallops. And fantastic service and wines
Delicious secret mission spot. The food and service were both great. The noise level wasn’t bad- much better than most popular restaurants (though quieter would be ideal).
Everything at Heirloom Cafe was amazing. The staff was friendly and polite and the food was just so delicious. They focus on seasonal local ingredients and you can tell. We had the corn soup, the off-the-menu burger, an incredible light and seasonal fennel salad, the sea scallops, and the gnocchi with a braised lamb shoulder which was so rich and decadent. We finished it all off with a strawberry shortcake. This place is a gem and I can't wait to revisit to try other items off the menu. It felt comfortable and cozy. These types of restaurants in SF are sadly becoming rare.
I’ve come here many times while in town for work and the food is consistently great—fresh and excellent. Service can be hit and miss and on most recent visit was pretty indifferent. Waiters were notably nicer to customers they knew, which made others feel kind of left out of a “club.” Noise levels are also really intense. But food is excellent, one of my favourites in SF.
Great food and atmosphere. Bacon and onion tart - delish!
I have never had a bad bite in this restaurant
Had dinner with with wife, daughter and grand daughter. We had a fantastic time. The food was excellent, the service was perfect and the place is very charming, with high ceilings and good vibes all over.
Special place! Honest, energetic, and warm. Food was fresh and very comforting. Wine program is super cool, rich with back vintage offerings from owner's hard work building a cellar. Service was friendly and smooth, got to know our server well through the course of the meal and got to see and hear more layers of the restaurant experience. Thanks, everyone!
one of our go to restaurants. one of my favorites in sf!
Had the gnocchi. It was fantastic! This was my third time there (ordering something different every time) and it has never failed to impress.
