It’s Permanently closed, which I discovered when I got to New York.
The restaurant was out of business from several weeks :(
OpenTable didn't realize that before the reservation.
And evidently not even after (my Customer Service complain included).
Have a nice day,
I booked and the restaurant was closed and shut! Had a party of 6 people and had to go elsewhere as the reservation was confirmed but restaurant shut.
I arrived for my booking and the restaurant was closed. When I tried to call, I couldn’t get any answer - and then couldn’t use opentable to book something else as it said I was late for my reservation- at a closed restaurant:
As always, amazing food. The mole sauce was incredible and the duck, a very difficult meat, was excellent.
WOW. we arrived earlier than the reservation time we had slotted. Several 4 seat tables were available & only one 2 seat table at the entrance of the restaurant by the host desk. I wasn't thrilled about the seating choice, but i understood that the reserved 4 seat table would be filled eventually. A server brings us the menus, & to my dismay its a reduced version of the typical menu, "special" for 5 de mayo celebrations. I complained to the server about this & was dismissed: i called for the manager who corroborated that the menus was smaller sized items meant for quick turn out from the kitchen & he seemed unconcerned over the fact the there was no notice outside of the restaurant nor in the website about this change. The couple by our table had the same complaint, & we commiserated over this fact. from here on, the service was slow & tedious for us & we were being served by the manager: not so much for the elderly couple beside us, who after they were brought their drinks, had to resort to drinking the ice from the cocktail as no one brought them water until after they paid their check. This was only one of several indignities they suffered, as they continued to struggle to get the attention from a revolving door of servers who kept rotating every time they logged a complaint. The worst offense, though, was a server removing the unfinished entree of the gentleman as he was still working on it, actively eating from the plate. Back to the table complaint: as we sat & waited for the server to bring us our appetizer & drinks, 25 mins went by during which time several groups of 4-6 people walked in without reservation & asked if there was room for them: thanks to the extreme proximity to the host, we had the delight of hearing him turn them away, due to lack of space, as the same tables available at our arrival remained empty. As we are paying, we voice our concerns re: the elderly couple to be told: "what was their problem, right?"
WILL NOT BE COMING BACK.
Went here for my birthday and it was the most ideal place! Not too many tables, so we practically had the whole place to ourselves for most of our meal! Our waiter was amazing and patient and even helped my friends decorate before I arrived! Food is insanely good if you are looking for tacos and tequila!
Amazing food and excellent service. A friend recommended that when traveling through NYC we must try.....so we did and it didn’t disappoint. Will be sure to return on our next visit.
Very good service. Excellent food reasonably priced. But noise level after about 730 -45 was deafening.
Good experience! The service is always kinda weird!
We didn't understand the concept of the all-you-can eat food at first but once we did we realized we had stumbled upon a gem in the LES. Will definitely be back!
Excellent truly authentic Mexican food. Great creative cocktails. Service was friendly and efficient. We have been dining here for years and have never been disappointed.
Very disappointing! Missing items and poor service !
Good food and service. But so loud that we had to yell at each other and still could barely communicate. I like lively dining rooms, but a little sound absorption would go a long way here.
Hecho is one of my locals. They came out with a bang but kinda got lazy. We were surprised to see they have upped their game again. Food has definitely gotten better since last time we were there. Particularly liked the mushroom quesadilla and the yellowfin tuna tacos.
The short rib tacos that I ordered were horrible. It was a bone, two flat tortillas, and a bunch of undercooked pieces of steak. Far from appetizing. Was there for Valentine’s Day and it was awful.
Very limited menu for vegetarians and non red meat eaters. No chicken on the menu
No need to go here just awful... they won’t last long
Hecho en Dumbo is one of our regular restaurants when in the area of The Public Theater or Cooper Union. Great Mexico City cuisine and friendly service (albeit sometimes a bit slow).
We usually start with the guacamole and the queso fundido with roasted poblano peppers (very flavorful but not spicy although they can adjust that.) Both delicious.
This time we split two other dishes: Flautas de Res (Braised shredded beef rolled into crisp corn tortillas with house-made sour cream, crumbled cheese, lettuce, salsa verde) and a plate of three tacos (we got Tacos de Costilla [Grilled steak short rib with chopped onion & cilantro] and Tacos de Chorizo Verde [Vegan seitan green chorizo, potato, cactus salad.]) Yum!
For dessert we always get the tres leches cake, which is very good although admittedly not the absolute best we've ever had.
They have a good selection of beer - both on tap and bottled. And a modest wine list and full bar.
TIP: Happy Hour starts at 5:00. A selection of regular appetizers are available at very low prices if ordered during happy hour. We get there at 5, order the apps, and then order the rest of dinner when the full kitchen opens at 5:30!
About 1/4 mile from The Public Theater; just about a four-minute walk.
They also do chef's dinners for groups at a section in the back of the restaurant.
Overpriced, but very good relatively authentic Mexican food in NOHO... Happy hour specials are its saving grace.
I went to Hecho en Dumbo for dinner. They have a good selection of drinks, but the food was really average. I recommend it for a drink at the bar and appetizers, but not as a dinner option. The noise level was really high - not a quiet place.
The food is delicious and the margaritas the best I have had
The brunch option, where they bring a bunch of different dishes and you can have as much as you want, is a great option. We had a wonderful time and were very full afterwards. Not crowded, and they let us hang out.
As a mexican living in NYC it’s the most delicious mexican restaurant you can find in NYC by far.
Great value- we ordered a $20 per person tasting menu and had more food than we could handle. Overall, food was good.
The service was inattentive and slow, the food was presented in an unappetizing manner and the flavors were cloyingly sweet. The steak was cubed in tiny pieces so you could not enjoy the flavor and the tuna was over cooked slathered in barbecue sauce. My friend did not know it was tuna. The salad was iceberg lettuce with what tasted like bottled dressing. I will not go back!
Excellent food. Perfect cozy spot in the East village
Always a great time at Hecho. The food is incredible and the price is more than adequate. I can't recommend this place enough. It's my one constant go to place that I share with friends for brunch.
Guac was good. Everything else was pretty horrible
Server was without affect and didn't smile at best, bordering on having an attitude. When leaving, I said thanks and he just walked right by me. Maybe not happy with the tip but you get what you give.
The best food and cocktails.
Happy hour every evening.
Great meal before a show at the Public Theater.
Half of the entrees arrived and then…nothing. No more food came. No one came to the table. No explanation. Just nothing. So we waited. And waited. And waited. After ten minutes, we finally were able to get our waiter, who told us curtly that the food was coming. But nothing came. We waited. And waited. And then asked again, clearly to the annoyance of our waiter. We were told, again, that our food was coming. But, again, nothing came. The third time we asked, we were told that we had been given another table’s food, that it was all the bus boy’s fault, and that the kitchen was trying to straighten it all out. No apology. No freshening of drinks. Some twenty minutes after the first entrees arrived, the remaining ones finally got to the table.
The food was pretty good but expensive for the portion size. I really liked my salad. The cocktails were okay, a little overwhelming with the lime juice. Everyone was nice but the service was really slow, which was frustrating. Maybe they were short staffed for the day.
If you want good Mexican food (no burritos here nor chimiganga - that's not Mexican food), this is the place to go. Quality is excellent on every dish and well priced. Service is amazing, you'll feel welcomed and never rushed. Take it from a Mexican - avoid Cosme and go to Hecho en Mexico. As a reference Cosme's flavor = mediocre (chilaquiles were Tostitos with some sauce), service = you feel rushed, like servers took pity on you and fed you, price = too high for what it is.
Had a show in Astor Theater and tried HeD, what a great surprise. We ended up there during their unlimited dinning period, $20 person, everything on the menu! Ever dish was superb. I was actually on the last day of a special cleanse diet and did not expect to eat anything, but had to break the fast for this feast. Well worth it! The Mexican French toast was the hit at our table.
I ordered the bone marrow tacos, what a waste. All I got as far as the bone marrow goes was a little bone with no marrow at all inside???
Extremely disappointing. Last year, I took my boyfriend to Hecho en Dumbo's chef table and it was a remarkable experience that I still tell my friends about. Given we hadn't been back to HeD since, we made a game time decision to grab a reservation for Saturday night. The food was just as great as we remembered, the service was horrible in ways that left us perplexed. 1) Waiter brought my drink, forgot that my bf ordered a drink too; 2) Food took easily 45 mins to show up - we just ordered tacos and the resto was NOT busy; 3) we asked the waiter for the bill THREE times - after the second ask, he returned with a glass of wine for my bf (note: we did not ask for wine, we asked for the check) - finally received the bill 30 mins later after we begged another waiter to bring it over. So the inattentiveness of our server prolonged our dinner and made us late for an event that we were scheduled to attend following dinner. I would consider delivery from this place (GREAT FOOD!), but will not waste my time with going back to dine-in.
The food was amazing but unfortunately that was offset by the attitude of the waitress/ hostess . I don't know who would hire that girl in a restaurant business . The restaurant is extremely loud also and you cannot hold a conversation . As good as the food was I will never go back because of that hostess.
Great Mexican food but with a creative take. Primarily tapas style--perfect for sharing. Happy hour is a great value and includes their most popular dishes.
