Heartland Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Heartland readily accommodated our table of 10 which included exuberant children and an infant. The food and service were excellent. We contributed significant noise to what is an already lively environment (open concept, hard surfaces) without feeling "shushed". This was an annual post-Christmas get-together which we thoroughly enjoyed, all made lovelier by Heartland's heart-warming welcome and service.
We'll be return customers and take more time to enjoy the art that decorates the walls. Many thanks!
Portions were very small and not good value for that reason. My entree was tasty. My husband’s was less so. I understand that ownership has changed in the last few years, which is a shame. It used to be very enjoyable. We probably will not be back. Although the interior is charming and was decorated nicely for Christmas and our sever was pleasant and attentive.
The server was exceptional! Two of our group of 4 had food sensitivities and/or allergies. She knew the foods on the menu and knew what to pay attention to. She knew what options were available that were gluten free and dairy free. She asked very relevant questions to best meet the special needs. Outstanding!
After booking a reservation two weeks in advance ; I called the restaurant and left several messages. My phone calls were never returned. I finally got through the day of ( my husbands bday) and was told I was not in their system. They were able to accommodate a table but the food was terrible. Dry over cooked chicken, mediocre, barley warm lamb shank. However; our server rocked and did her best.
Very very pricey for what you get.
My 10oz steak was paper thin, potato’s were not cooked. Other meals were mushy, and lacked flavour.
I am celiac and allergic to dairy. I made this very clear to the waitress and I left not feeling well.
We were all so disappointed as we’ve all been there in the past and had amazing food.
This is the first time I can honestly say I was extremely disappointed in the service. We sat for over 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged...not even getting water and/or coffee. The food was great as always, but the service was terrible. We even saw people get up and leave.
Very popular cafe in an eclectic space (a historic former church building), located in trendy, old town Okotoks near galleries and boutiques. Lunch hours seem to always be busy so service is, understandably, a bit slower. Go when you can relax rather than when you're in a rush and you'll be fine. Food choices focus on soup, salads, and sandwiches.
We love the local artwork presented for sale throughout the restaurant, some very lovely paintings and gift items, changed regularly to reflect seasonal themes.
Parking is limited so allow time to find on-street parking if their 4-5 spots are already occupied.
A favorite spot of ours for lunch, highly recommended.
very good certainly has improved but this due to the fact of the waitress ability to properly serve. we did not return for 1 1/2 yrs after the last experience . appetizer shrimp scallop sausage not so much something ground up and pressed together as a sausage, beet and feta salad very nice and lamb shanks was very good served hot
Absolutely delicious food and some terrific gluten free options. I had the duck confit ($27) and would have licked the plate if no one was looking. My friend had the gnocchi and a glass of wine ($27 together) and said the pasta was wonderful. The dining room is all wood - wide open with high ceilings, a renovated church I believe. As such, it is not a warm atmosphere but elegant with enough space that you are not overhearing the table next to you. Classy place.
Would highly recommend. We started with the roasted beet & feta salad. It was delicious.
For our main meal we ordered the arctic char & lamb shank. Both were cooked correctly and full of flavours. The waitress was very good and checked on us at appropriate times.
I have been to the Heartland Cafe several times before and have never been disappointed. We were greeted immediately with a smile and a friendly face and shown to our table which we had reserved ahead of time. The restaurant is small, so if you want to ensure that you have a table - book ahead. The menu is small but the food is awesome! Great homemade soups, awesome variety of foods. My favorite (and I have to admit I rarely stray) is the pecan chicken!
I would NOT recommend dinner, but we had really enjoyed lunch on the patio in July. The lunch dishes were delicious and great value - much better then the dinner offerings we had this visit. The roasted beets were just as good, but the entrees left a lot to be desired. The ribs were underdone, salmon and veal were overdone, and the cod was a very small serving. When we brought the underdone ribs (ie not coming off the bone, very chewy, and pink on the verge of red meat) to the server's attention, she came back with a message from the cook essentially saying we didn't understand the method of cooking, but if we insisted they could be cooked more. Made us feel like culinary dummies. I would go back for lunch or try the brunch, but not dinner.
We did reserve a reservation which was great ...but then received a notice that we did not show up? We were in fact there before the doors opened. Anyways we had the Chicken and waffles as recommended by a friend. The were just ok..maybe we just aren't fans of the 2 mixes. However had a bowl of the day soup and it was amazing. We had a great server her name was Sylvie...she was super friendly😃 Would return again.
Amazing service. All the servers were eager to help my group and served my table beautifully. The residents were in love with the place and loved our server, who did an outstanding job.
Side note: It is hard for those with walkers, or who are hard of walking to get around that place, especially downstairs. It did take a while to get everyone in, and the washrooms were hard to get to for them. Other than that, great experience.
Both my friend and I enjoyed the lunch we ordered. The selections were sufficient and we were pleased with the choices we made. The side salad which came with my sandwich selection had a little too much dressing but it was tasty. I did order the dressing on the side and the server asked if I wanted another salad and I declined. In the end the salad was okay...a bit overwhelmed with the dressing. but the brie and apple chicken sandwich was very good.
