Hearthside Dining - Elmhirst's Resort
Lovely varied menu showcasing locally sourced ingredients with options for anyone with dietary restrictions. We sat overlooking Rice Lake, staff were attentive and we weren't rushed. We were there for a business lunch but I wouldn't hesitate to go for a special occasion, brunch or just for a meal when you don't feel like cooking.
We really enjoyed our Easter Sunday with you. All staff was super attentive and the variety of food and abundance of food was great! Thank you
will be back for sure
Service was excellent
Some of the food could have been a little hotter but tasted great
Once the ice is out and the grass green the view from the dining room should be fantastic
Food was amazing, and they brought us out a complimentary dessert to celebrate our getting married!
We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch. The food was amazing and everyone had a fabulous time. Will be back for sure!
Always an enjoyable pleasure to be at the Elmhirst Resort, for dining or staying in a cottage.
We come to Elmhirst every year for my son's birthday and it was a very good experience. The food was presented beautifully and although there were many full tables the line for the waffles and omelettes moved smoothly. The food was delicious and the service was great.
Portions were a bit on the small side, and the salad that I ordered was not actually the salad that I received, but the food was good, the server was friendly, and the food arrived in a timely manner. The view from the restaurant was amazing, and our lunch was a very pleasant experience.
A wonderful New Years evening! The dinner and wine tasting were delicious and the hosts were very informative and fun.
Definitely recommend Elmhirst resort for a special occasion
First time Bruncher and non-baker, so I was completed amazed and entralled by the 20+ perfect desserts on this buffet.
Lovely meal and bonus of a free dessert for my birthday. Really enjoyed it.
We have been going to Elmhirst for many years. Its Sunday brunch and Monday lunch buffet are excellent value, great selection and wonderful food. We especially enjoy their special occasion meals as in Mother’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day and Thanksgiving to name a few. The food is always amazingly delicious and well presented. The staff are attentive without being “in your face”! We have recommended Elmhirst to all our friends and family...many of them joining us for an awesome visit.
Lovely, romantic evening...with excellent service..we will be back..great strong coffee too!
Enjoyed ourselves immensely! The Elmhirst family are very gracious.
Love Elmhirst’s ,very friendly ,good food , excellent scenery . Enjoyed the horse drawn carriage ride.
This was a lovely place to have a fancy meal. The staff were very friendly and accomodating when our reservation had been booked incorrectly online. They were still able to seat six of us with a very minimal wait. The food is superb, I recommend the chicken!
Birthday celebration dinner for elderly parents was disappointing. We have eaten at Elmhirst's 2x before; once it was very good and once just average. This visit was poor. We were seated promptly at a great table with a great view. Then we waited. Eventually a server dropped 3 menus on the table and left. No greeting, no drink order. The restaurant was only about half full, but there weren't enough menus to go around. We got our 4th menu when another table had finished ordering.
There was no wine list provided, so I got up to ask for one.
The server came to get our dinner order - I asked if we could get some drinks first. We ordered a bottle of wine and some beer. After a few minutes the server returned to tell me the wine was out of stock, and that I should go look in the cabinet myself to see what was available. The wine cabinet had many empty spots so we ordered wine by the glass.
Dinner was inconsistent. Pickerel dishes were good. Steak dish was fine. Locally-grown veggies were very nice. Soup wasn't hot, salads were gritty with dirt, roast lamb was very undercooked and had to go back to the kitchen. I learned later when I saw the bill that the server had erroneously sent in an order of medium rare instead of the medium I had asked for. The kitchen ignored her incorrect request even, and provided rare. Still cold in the centre.
Coffees were cold. Server asked how the coffee was and one of our guests answered it was cold; the server replied "good, glad you're enjoying everything." A group SMH followed.
We learned there was a large group event downstairs - this may have had an impact on our service... don't know, don't care.
I know these are all small things, but they add up to make the dinner less than appealing. For reference, approx $250 with 15% gratuity. I know the servers were working hard, but one must not confuse effort with success; I just couldn't leave my normal 25% for this service and meal.
Very nice place , however wedding going on at same time so started a little strange trying to figure where to go .
Our meal was simply delicious and without doubt well worth the 1 1/2hr drive for our special occasion! One slight problem with one dish was corrected immediately and without any question. The view of Rice Lake was lovely and we could have watched the clouds all day.
My filet mignon was one of the best I've ever had and my wife's pickerel was terrific.
So, if you have a special occasion, a romantic date or even just a night out - go and treat yourself to the Elmhirst Resort restaurant...you won't be disappointed.
Thanks to the chef and staff for making the evening delightful.
I've had Sunday brunch here several times, and I think the selection has gone down over the years while the price has gone up. The food itself wasn't bad, although I will avoid the hot table in the future: everything had been sitting too long and was lukewarm. The desserts are amazing, and the seafood was different and tasty. Service wasn't as attentive as it could have been despite it being very quiet.
We enjoyed a great meal and the service was excellent.
We were at Elmhirst to celebrate two birthdays. The dining room was beautiful, decorated for Xmas, and a roaring fire in the hearth. The server was attentive, friendly, and well-trained at her job which makes the dining experience more pleasurable. Three of us thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers, meals and desserts, and the amuse bouche and the palate cleanser were pleasant surprises. We were also pleased by the dessert assortment that arrived with candles without even ordering it for the birthday girls. Overall a delightful experience- the only drawbacks were the rather loud large Xmas party gathering in the adjoining room with their own live music. It wasn't possible to dampen the sound so the only option was to turn off the softer music in our space and listen to the loud Xmas carols from the other space (in November).
Excellent food and service. The only down point was how this "date night" was marketed to me through OpenTable. This date night was supposed to be a special price/offer. However, after arriving at our table the waiter stated that there was no special offer and we would have to order off of the menu at the regular price. We would not have booked this restaurant had we known that it wasn't a special price.
We shared the lobster gnocci appetizer and had the duck and the lamb entrees. The duck and lobster were fantastic, while the lamb special was a little bit busy. All in all, the food was excellent. Andrew was an expert server and host.
There are few settings as beautiful as the grounds and the Elmhirst Inn. The fod however was very disappointing. The vegetables were under-cooked and quite tasteless, and such a shame given the bounty in Nothumberland Hills. I was quite disappointed given the price of the meal. A new approach by the Chef would be welcomd.
Was a lovely evening to celebrate ny friends and my birthday's, was really special
Nicely prepared small portions. Very nice presentation. Good service. Overall, very nice and definitely recommended.
It was okay over all and price 35 each for brunch was reasonable.
Amy the hostess was kind a rude for saying we arrived 5mins earlier than suppose to be 6pm. Not expecting to hear that as a welcome on our first visit reservation on Mothers day. Not impress at all for a welcome greetings.
Very nice restaurant. We went for a dinner, warm welcomed, very quiet, sweet music.
Loved the extra special Birthday cake (for 3). Amazing food!
We had a very nice evening out with friends to celebrate Valentine's Day, in spite of the food being very mediocre. All 4 of us had the beef Wellington for the main course...the beef was not very tender, and the pastry very mushy. Also, the presentation was a poor attempt to fancy the plate up. The service however was excellent.
We should add that we have been to Elmhirst several times before, for Sunday Brunch, and the food has always been excellent, so we assume this experience was a blip, and we will come back.
Sadly this was the worst meal we have ever had in a restaurant. It was our 20th anniversary and we had been looking forward to the meal and it was so bad neither of us could eat it despite being hungry. It was so disappointing. Your location is so lovely, but the food was gross, completely un-edible. Sauce like wall paper paste, watery fish, bland veggies, under cooked potatoes with no flavour. Your server tried to make it up to us but ther was nothing she could do. the food left us green and we were there for dinner.
Big Thumbs UP for Natasha, our waitress. She was wonderful, gave us 110% service.
Great Thanksgiving meal. Only issue is that we tried to add 2 people to our reservation of 2 that afternoon. Told us they could not accommodate but we asked them to call us if they received a last minute cancellation. No call but we had open seating for 14 surrounding us the whole time we are. Disappointed
Beautiful lake view, food was ok, not great for elegant restaurant
We had been to Elmhurst many times in the past. Always enjoyed the experience and felt it was something to reserve for special occasions. My parents had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 15 yrs ago renting several cottages for my 5 siblings and myself and all our children. It was such a wonderful weekend we wanted to replicate the experience.
Unfortunately, Friday when we arrived at the time we had reserved, the table was not ready but we sat down anyway. There were at least a dozen flies swarming the food, the window and of course ourselves. This was really distracting and annoying, let alone unhygienic!
So although the waitress was apologetic and it is in a farming area, it really was not pleasant.
The food was fine. The dessert served on a tray noting the 65th wedding anniversary and 90th birthday that we were celebrating, was really thoughtful and special for my parents.
They both said however, that they would never go back, so that saddened me. We live in Ottawa and Guelph and the Toronto area so likely will not go back again either.
Was there for my mothers 80th, with 9 family and friends. There was a wddding on at the same time and while they were in another room it was still loud. To start the water on the table was salty because their water system had been worked on that day. There was only one other table (of 2) in the restaurant and yet they only had enough of the "special" for 2 orders. The "cesar salad" was definitely not a cesar, it had an oil dressing not a cream based one. The rest of the food order was average. When we ordered coffee it came with cream that was curdled. All in all quite disappointing.
We have been to the Sunday brunch and enjoyed our visit each time but the Monday brunch is quite different.
We had very poor seating with bench seating that was stained and the bench was deep requiring us to sit forward to reach our plates..
They ran out of food quickly and what was offered looked like a dogs dinner. The dessert table was messy and meager and not refreshed.
I would never go on a Monday again.
Celebrated a birthday. The food was excellent. Kenn our server was excellent. All round great experience.
