What Insiders Are Saying
Hearth has been one of the East Village’s best restaurants for over a decade, and it just got a whole lot lighter and leaner.
Would give the food a 10/5 stars that’s how great the food was.
It was absolutely wonderful - service was fast, but we were not rushed. The food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was quiet and calm.
Fantastic! No longer offer the brunch prixe fix but still tasty and affordable. The box encouraging us to put our phones in and disconnect was a nice touch and welcomed. Would def go again!
A very limited breakfast/ brunch menu and small portions, the smallest ice coffee I ever had actually. Food was good and service was nice, but don’t see a reason to go again for breakfast. Dinner may be a different experience.
We had our of town friends visiting who has read about the chef. We loved the good which was simple and delicious. Even my vegan husband was very happy. The speciality drinks were
Scrumptious. Jefferson our server was outstanding.
Jarred, the sommelier, went out or his way to “get us out of our comfort zone” with wine selection!
Just a fabulous experience all round. Great food, great service and gentle atmosphere. I would dearly like to keep this place a secret!
Sat out side on a leisurely Sunday morning and had an amazing meal. Everything was EXCEPTIONAL! I'll definitely be going back to try more things...
A bit pricey for what you get, but great atmosphere.
Love Hearth, one of my favorite restaurants in NY. And the staff is always wonderful.
It's a cute space but the service wasn't up to par and slow. Barely checked on us and took a while to take our order. The food was moderate, not hating. But for the price, I wouldn't say it was worth it.
Hearth is officially a must do any time I'm in NYC. I've been twice and the food never disappoints. The wine list is also exceptional.
The service was unfriendly! We had the ten dishes tasting menu. One of the dishes was simply bread and butter! I was surprised that bread and butter is a dish! The wine pairing was poor and not worth the money!
The quality of the food was okay but the taste wasn't exciting! We expected more from a tasting menu! The food has little to do with Italian cooking! We had a nice table at the window! The noise from the other tables was extremely loud!
Also this was a reservation for a birthday celebration.
The evening was not worth 300$!
Nice place. Feels homey. Went with waitress recommendations from wine to food. None was good. I guess we didn’t tried the “good” food that everyone is raving about but judging from the food we had (radish, calamari and pork pasta) I probably wouldn’t enjoy the rest of the menu. We had 4 glasses of (mediocre) wine the 3 small dishes mentioned above and a small tasteless marshmallow desert. All for 150$ before tip. Really ? Definitely a no go for me or whoever I like and asks me about this place.
Interesting but limited Sunday brunch menus. Nevertheless, a nice selection of vegan, vegetarian and meat based.
Service was excellent. Ordered cook books written by the cheff which they arranged to have sent our home in DC.
Fantastic as always. I've been eating at Hearth for over 10 years and have never been disappointed.
Third time here..previous couple of times were so much better and were clearly of much better value. Tasting menu was disappointing and the amount of time in between courses was far too long.
Food is good tasty but expensive. Menu is confusing and the waiter offered zero help in picking food or wine.
We may have just caught them on a bad night, but I regretted bringing my guest here. Service varied from over- to under-attentive. The meal was unobjectionable but nothing worth lingering over or returning for. I had a much better experience here a year or so ago.
Love the freshness of the food!
One of our "go to" downtown, down to earth, seasonal menu places.
Fabulous, non-conventional comfort food. Delicious drinks. Superb service.
Absolutely love this place! Chef Joe is a rare talent and his artistry and professionalism trickles down to the entire kitchen staff. The flavors they get out of the simplest ingredients is amazing!
The staff of this s restaurant are really amazing. Everybody is kind, super happy and they make you feel at home.
I wonder how long it will take before people realize that the restaurant is a big letdown and a big disappointment. Came to Hearth on a Friday night during prime dinner hour. The restaurant was fairly full (which is usually a good sign), however the service was atrocious. The server paid more attention to the next table over (which was originally our table before they decided to "make room" for their party). We watched the server explain the menu to that table, and then proceed to come to our table and ask if we're ready to order.
Ordered the garlic bread, charred carrots, fusilli, and the sea bream en papillote. The food was decent, however it didn't justify the price point. It was good, but did not blow anybody away. And back to the non-existent server - who didn't even bother to circle back. The water person had to ask if we wanted another drink. Wow.
And when the check came, the server mixed up the tables and gave us the next table's check! It's a shame that the server ruined the entire experience. There are plenty of options in EV - I would just skip this restaurant all together. It's too bad - the restaurant had a good ambiance.
One of the best meals I've had in awhile. Service was amazing - everyone was wonderful! Professional, polite without any "airs". I have and will recommend highly.
Thank you for a wonderful evening!!!
One of the best restaurants in NYC providing the best in local, organic, sustainable food.
Unsuspecting exterior, then you walk in and it's bustling. The brick walls and warm wood are complimented by exquisite painting of beets & tomatoes the size of murals.
The best part an employee who is an artists did all of the works. I thought it was great they had a relationship to the work and their worker.
I came by myself walked a half hour, and it was well worth it.
The hostess was a matriarch - warm, inviting, commanded a presence but exuded a genuine care. I felt as if I could have been the only one there, but it was packed.
She walked calmly, slowly - ensuring everything was perfect and each person was attended too. Not asking but carefully watching.
My waitress was equally lovely. My favorite part was the garlic bread. Perfect texture, both soft & crunchy. Parsley, real garlic, and acidic lemon.
My daughter and I were celebrating a special anniversary of her being 1.5years cancer free. The staff at Hearth was attentive and gracious. They helped us start our meal with a lovely champagne toast. We had the tasting menu which was a delicious assortment of items from the menu. We had a wonderful time.
Service excellent/she was very attentive and pleasant
Anchovy appetizer very tasty
My wife had the hamburger and fries
They were excellent
I had the kebab/the portion size was very small/I was starving and had some of wife's potatoes and hamburger
Nice place/just amp up the portion of the kebab
I hate to leave hungry!
Food was awesome. We had the pasta and roasted carrots. Truly one of the best meals I've ecerbhad. Service a bit slower. But this is part of the Italian experience. Pulled a star for mouse level. The service was leisurely but it was hard to relax with noise.
Hearth is not pretentious, well maintained, has impeccable service and is wildly consistent. The chef is brilliant as are the dishes. Simple but completely fabulous. I’ve been back to Hearth over and over again and have never experienced anything out of place or off putting. The food is refined comfort food that suits so many palates. I can bring family, friends, colleagues and dates here without having to worry that they won’t find something they like. EVERYTHING is delicious. I’m obsessed with Hearth, obviously, and will remain to be for the foreseeable future.
Great service, our waiter(Jefferson) was entertaining as well as helpful and attentive, made the evening even more enjoyable....
Overpriced and menu was too “precious”. Food was not good.
I've been here several times, but the service we received on this visit was very subpar. It took 20 minutes for us to flag down our waiter to place a drink order and then another 20 minutes to place our dinner order where he informed us they were out of two of the main dishes. The rest of the evening continued in the same fashion, I had to get his attention to order another beverage and another guest at the table didn't order a second drink because she couldn't get his attention. For a restaurant that I typically consider a go-to, this was a disappointment to say the least.
Went in with my wife for brunch Sunday afternoon. At first I wasn’t sure about the menu as a guy that likes meat heavy meals like a burger. But I’m so glad I ate here instead of the usual brunch burger! The seasonal menu is fresh and will not disappoint. Frittata and side of roasted potatoes, and avocado toast. All amazing and delightfully fulfilling. Let me tell you...if you like avocado toast, you must go to Hearth. If you don’t like avocado toast, go to Heath and they will make you change your mind about it.
Loved our server and the food! Amazing recommendations and experience!
Delicious as always
We did the tasting menu, and it was delicious! This place was a good find.
The entire experience was fabulous. We were greeted with a warm soup shot, perfect for a gloomy rainy New York day. Our server was awesome, super friendly and very helpful with the menu and her top picks. The food was amazing and one of my new favorite spots in the city.
