What Insiders Are Saying
Hearth has been one of the East Village’s best restaurants for over a decade, and it just got a whole lot lighter and leaner.
Recently heard about this restaurant on a Farmacy podcast - it did NOT disappoint. So lovely, and yummy, and well done - everything - service, food, atmosphere - will definitely go back!!
Love Hearth. Always have. And will continue to go back.
Hearth never disappoints. The brunch menu, while limited, is delicious. It’s not too crowded or noisy, which makes it a lovely place for a slow chatty brunch.
We have been here a couple of time, overall really nice place and good food, this time our choice of first course was not the best; the whole fish was dry outside and not perfectly cooked in the inside.
Lovely server, amazing food, inspiring chef and kitchen crew.
Good wine, great food, and amazing service. I will make it a point to come back everytime I’m in the city.
We absolutely LOVED our first meal here. We sat in the Main dining room and relished in the full dining experience from start to finish. We just went for a second time and while the service was still friendly and attentive, and the food was equally impeccable, we didn't enjoy the ambience as much by the kitchen. One of the details that we had appreciated so much about the main dining room was the boxes for cell phones to encourage not using phones during dinner, we were disappointed to see that those are not on every table, the couple next to us were on their phones the whole time and it lessened the overall impact. Still would recommend, but would suggest requesting the main dining room, especially if it is a special occasion!
We were there late-ish on Valentine’s Day and had a great meal and a great time. A warm atmosphere with very good food — although to tell you the truth, we would have been happy to have a bit more repose in order to enjoy it. The first course came in minutes before we’d had a chance to enjoy our aperitif. Delicious, but sudden. It was a busy night there, of course, and perhaps the kitchen was feeling as if it was in overdrive. A great meal (scallops , lamb chops, sensible wine pairing at reasonable cost).
Both myself and my partner were violently ill within an hour of finishing our meal, waiter was not at all friendly and seemed annoyed that we required more time to review the menu.
My wife is a foodie and I missed the cut off for Valentine's Day for the trendy restaurants I would usually try to get reservations at. I yelped my neighborhood and although I never heard of Hearth the menu looked right up her alley. She loved it and even though I can find foodie restaurants challenging I enjoyed every bite. Great wine selection and to my delight an excellent IPA I've never had before. From the fried clams to the cheese plate for desert we enjoyed the meal immensely.
Food was incredibly good, but gave me a stomach ache. I have a sensitive stomach, but it set me off. But it’s was so tasty.
And our waitress was pretentious and pretended to be French at a noveau Italian place. Both annoying and misplaced.
Barring those two annoyances, id 100% return.
Chef tasting menu w wine pairing is fantastic. Highly recommended.
Food was great as always. Love the menu with a balance of staples and seasonal options and the mix and match small’ish portions provide lots of opportunity for sharing. Our server. Jacqy D was AWESOME! LOokibg forward to our next visit!
Loved it! Food was delicious. Do yourself a favor and get the meatballs and gnocchi. The wine list is also fabulous.
I was a little disappointed with the food. My salad was soggy and over salted. Only the deserts were great
Wonderful place with a warm and cozy ambience. Bar area lighting is perfect for dates! Food was excellent, a true labor of love. Most of the staff were friendly and great!
A lil bit overpriced
We went with two friends for sunday brunch during restaurant week. Amazing and very friendly staff! Coffee was really good and I highly recommend the meatballs, French toast, the eggs and bacon!
Finally the atmosphere is very cozy.
Only - : the Bloody Mary was very strong.
Overall I highly recommend Hearth!
Service was very poor. We were left sitting for 1 hour with no food, no water refills and we were not asked if we would like another drink. So sat for 30mins with no other drinks!
Given we were left waiting for so long. We then had to get up to speak to a member of staff to explain the situation. They then explain our food got lost in the kitchen and it would be with us shortly. This was simply not good enough. So just cancelled the order.
She apologized and said she would email me to invite us back and hopefully be able to make it up to us with complimentary drinks and deserts. Of course I never received this email. Very disappointing service and will not be recommending this place to anyone!
I receive so many requests to review things and so little time available that I’ve pretty much stopped unless something is outstanding or terrible. Our recent dinner at Hearth was outstanding. Friendly service, excellent wine list, and in particular everything we were served family style as part of the tasting menu was delicious. Our Austrian friends, visiting NYC for the first time, were very impressed.
Great food, lovely folks. Can’t wait to go back.
Went for restaurant week to celebrate my birthday. Everything was amazing!!! Even though the portions looked small, I was so full after it. Everything was delicious and I loved the place! <3
Best service I’ve ever had
Hearth was a great choice for all of us. The menu had something that each of us wanted to order. Food was delicious and great wine selections.
Came for restaurant week but have been here a number of times. Kitchen and wait staff unfailingly excellent this and every time.
Very neat place with exceptional service. We were late to the appointment but they kept the kitchen open for us which was super nice of them.
We went in for restaurant week to try a new place. Prices for reataurant week were equal to regualr menu prices.
We asked our server for recommendations and she suggested the ricotta fritters. Amazing! We also go buckwheat pancakes and fell in love! Ginger spice latte and a version of hot chocolate set brunch off!
Great service and quality ingredients!
I recommend here for a brunch. It's good to enjoy having talks with friends, and the atmosphere is so cool. Service is also nice.
This is a wonderful Lower East Side spot for brunch. The staff are cheerful and knowledgeable, the brunch menu is inventive and the kitchen excels. A+++ all around.
Hearth was chosen for its sustainable farm to table menu to celebrate a significant birthday. A round table easily seated our party of five. First of all, winter does not offer as many tasty options as spring, summer, and fall. We chose the tasting menu and the staff accommodated our diet needs of: no meat, no shellfish, no nuts--bless their hearts! We received four courses with three choices each: appetizer, second, main, dessert. Everything was fresh, plated beautifully, and each dish had its own flavor and texture.
The service was well-timed and well-performed. The decor and place settings are appropriate for the philosophy of this restaurant. It's the cuisine that counts and matchy-matchy doesn't make the food less tasty-tasty.
The one true drawback (and it is a prevalent complaint these days) is that the noise level brought us to almost shouting level until the evening wound down and we could converse civilly.
Ending on a positive--we sampled foods of a global nature and enjoyed our time at Hearth. We would like to thank them for their ability to give us an evening of joy and good conscience.
Had a wonderful dinner at Hearth. I hadn’t been before and picked it from OpenTable because the menu looked good. The host was super nice accommodating my elderly dinnermate (93 yrs young) with a comfortable seat, and the food was excellent. He was eager to have fish and loved the Black Bass, and my Gnocchi were delish!
I was nervous about picking something at random from OT, but was very happy with the choice. And he is planning to go back.
The food, the ambiance, the service are all lovely. The kind of place that makes you happy and stirs your conversation into a happy place as well.
They gave us the best seat in the house, corner seat by the window with the booth sectional, the food, ambiance, everything was absolutely above par, will definitely come here again! Oh and the interior decoration is amazing
Both the food and wine was fantastic. Would definitely love to come back again.
The food is always delicious here. Lovely server.
Absolutely love the food at Hearth and I come for every Restaurant Week (luckily falls on my birthday!) Cannot recommend more highly. Especially the gnocchi (best I ever had) and omg those meatballs! Treat yourself to the wine pairing. It's worth it.
Wonderful overall experience. Delicious food. Accommodating to gluten and dairy free. Best chocolate tasting dessert.
Restaurant week menu
Excellent food and wine pairing
Lovely warm atmosphere on coldest evening of year (so far)!
Love this place! So pleased to know that there are still places like this in New York which thrive because of the quality of the food, the service and the overall ambience. Just as it should be! I will be a regular here and am only sorry that it's taken so long for me to try it. The menu has a lovely blend of salads and other appetizers as well as offering a delicious range of main courses, all constructed with seasonal, local ingredients in peak condition.
We had a delicious brunch. The selections were unique and we especially loved the duck liver pate.
