What Insiders Are Saying
Hearth has been one of the East Village’s best restaurants for over a decade, and it just got a whole lot lighter and leaner.
We loved the food however we were seated 45 minutes after our reservation and front desk very unorganized
Great spot and meal! Definitely will be coming back!
Food was wonderful and our server was fantastic.. knowledgeable, responsive... it was a great time!
Went here for my birthday and had a great time. I’m gluten free and pescatarian, my boyfriend is vegetarian, and my parents are meat eaters and everyone left full and happy
Four of us had an outstanding meal at this cozy neighborhood hideaway. The staff was excellent and knowledgeable about both the food and the wines and our one gluten-free diner had no trouble choosing a satisfying meal. Staff are up to speed on celiac disease and were able to advise on options. Most choices can be shared around and the broth is special. There's a positive vibe that goes with the fresh, well-prepared meals but the pace is quick, as the restaurant's popularity draws lots of fans. Highly recommended for a real New York dining experience.
Hearth has a very nice feel to it. They seem to hire nice people which makes a difference. Pastas, rabbit and whole fish were outstanding. Duck was good. Garlic bread is a sleeper and is GREAT!!
Food and service were excellent! We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings. Would absolutely return for a special occasion
For years I've said that Hearth is THE best restaurant in all of the East Village, and recently was speaking with a friend who owns a successful restaurant in the East Village and she corrected me, "Best in the east village? It's one of the best restaurants in ALL of Manhattan." She's right, I agree.
Date night with the hubby. Didn't want anything too fancy, but I do have requirements. Was not disappointed in Hearth! Ambiance was cozy but not too much. Had an Old Fashion that was reminiscent of times where alcohol didn't have too be sweet to be appreciated. Great vibes all around. Had a lovely bone broth soup that was perfect for the winter weather. Should have gone with the vegan option broth (mushrooms and seaweed) as I also had the GF burger. Excellent! We were both full, but opted for dessert -- pear crumble that was better than mom makes and a chocolate mousse. We both agreed we had to return in order to sample more of the awesome food.
We have always enjoyed Hearth - the food and service are excellent. However, we have decided to not go back as the noise level is intolerable- conversation is impossiblep
Loud, weirdly limited menu. Hard to find something for dinner. Pretentious
Great place for someone looking for delicious healthy options. Loved the box for the cell phones
Wonderful evening celebrating - the food was incredible.
This was a special occasion - but not ours... Hearth's! We have been to Hearth for anniversaries before - but this time it was the restaurant's 15th anniversary. To celebrate being in Little Ukraine for a decade and a half they put on a special Ukrainian evening, with Ukrainian food, Georgian wine and plenty of emotional atmosphere. Something special to be part of. If you go to Hearth on an average day you'll find a version of this - food with emotion, food that's cared about, food that matters, food that the people who make it want you to find special. Hearth is a special place and if you haven't experienced it - well, you should.
Great meal for a birthday celebration. The seasonal menu was perfect for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. We split a bunch of the vegetable small plates, and couldn't decide which was our favorite. Beef tartare was flavorful and unique. Will definitely be back to check out the seasonal offerings at the change of seasons!
The menu has become a bit difficult to decipher, but still features freshly sourced ingredients. The service was also very helpful in understanding the menu. Best of all, the apple cider donuts are still being served!
Accommodating service. Generally, the staff at Hearth will make every effort to accommodate dietary restrictions and treat you to little extras when you ask. Great place for difficult people to eat.
Nice restaurant very in but casual, tasting menu with wine pairing was delicious. Beef tartare was delicious, the pasta divine, steak and fish pas out less favorite. The deserts chocolate cream was tasty and addicitve. A good experience would go back anytime. Service was superb and our server treated us like we were his private VIP guests.
Food was incredible, service was outstanding, restaurant was very quaint but the portions were small for the price you paid.
Amazing totally Amazing, the best food I have ever had!!!! To me, THE BEST RESTAURANT IN NEW YORK CITY!!!!!
Brunch menu very limited and French toast flooded with syrup and jam on small pieces of bread. Egg bowls not tasty
We came to Hearth for lunch, but next time we will try dinner. The Rabbit Rillette was very good. My daughter chose the French toast, and it good. Nothing special, but still good. Neither of us were blown away with our lunch, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be back! Looking forward to try out dinner sometime.
Sat at chef’s bar. Excellent dining experience.
Would only recommend for dinner. Brunch was a complete disapointment
It’s worth a visit for the bone broth alone.
And - our very fun server made amazing recommendations. Gnocchi! Apple cider donuts! This place is wonderful!
Everything was so good... such an wonderful meal!
Sitting next to a table of ten noisy people can ruin any meal. And there were another ten at another table.
The good: the food! Everything we ate was amazing. The gnocchi were like little pillows! Every course was delicious. The s'mores dessert was the perfect combination of both quality (tons but not sugary milk chocolate sweet) and quantity (small so you weren't regretful that you ordered dessert). The service, however, was lacking. We were so excited by our every bite but when we shared that with our server, he could not have cared less. He was not at all engaged with or adding to our dining experience. The somm was wonderful but we chose a bottle that had to be chilled. Due to that, we ordered a round of cocktails to kill time and when we placed our food order, we specified waiting 20 minutes for the first course in order to chill and serve the wine. Our first course came out just minutes later before we'd even received our cocktails. Our server was clearly annoyed when we sent it back with a reminder we were waiting on our wine. There certainly was no apology. We would have expected more coordination between the team members. Thankfully the kitchen dominated our experience and we leave speaking well of Hearth.
Our new favorite place. Can’t wait to bring out-town guests to show off why we love NYC.
We had a special occasion birthday dinner for two. Three young hostesses ignored us while we were patiently waiting to be seated. Acknowledgment from them to a while and was cold.
Once we were finally seated, it took a while for our waiter to come to our table, and then to take our order.
We chose the tasting menu, which proved to be underwhelming for the cost. Many of the courses were "filler meals" , small portions that we had to share for two. Not to mention the dessert that was composed of two tiny donuts and some very sweet chocolate mouse in a shot glass. And although they put a candle of the mousse for the birthday, they just brought it to us without even saying "Happy Birthday".
And the noise level was very loud.
This is a wonderful place for a romantic date. The food is amazing and there are many options for people with all kinds of dietary preferences. It's a great menu for sharing plates as well. Excellent wine and cocktails. I will be going back!
Disappointing. Got the whole chicken. Way too salty and the legs/thighs under cooked. Luckily we can use it for chicken salad and soup. It has the feel of trying just too hard to be special. Odd combinations in most of the menu choices. Had the chance to study the menu for a couple of days as the restaurant was my daughter's choice . It's in her neighborhood and she had heard good things about it. The ideas seem good but the execution just doesn't cut it. It's a cool place, with cool people, nice wine list..... but if I were hungry I wouldn't go back here for a meal.
It’s very busy ( which is a good sign) and the menu is interesting and tempting, there’s plenty of variety without it being overloaded. We had some bone broth which was like mana from heaven and a bun less burger which was satisfyingly meaty and cheesy and don’t miss the Delicious Chocolate desserts. It was altogether a very successful evening.
Hearth is the prototypical blueprint of what every restaurant should be. Healthy, mindful, local, organic, wildly creative. Life would be different if we all had one in our backyard. Wish there was something, anything, like this in South Florida.
The food and atmosphere were fantastic and the dark chocolate board for dessert is a must-try!
Wonderful as always. A favorite in the East Vill. No matter the meal of occasion, this is the place to go!
Smaller but still delicious portions. I recommend getting several plates to share!
I have known this restuarant since its early days - it is as wonderful today as it was back then. The food is superb and the staff are very professional. Chef Marco is one of the most talented I have experienced and also a great host. Thank you for yet another wonderful meal and evening.
