Hearth Ratings and Reviews
From start to finish, our experience at Hearth was perfect. We were sat before our reservation, our waitress (sadly can’t remember her name) was friendly and gave her recommendations based on my girlfriends and my food habits and allergies. All the food was delicious and even though they are technically small plates, the portions were bigger then expected. Worth the money every once and a while!! Cannot wait to go back again to try more.
Every item we ordered was delicious from appetizers to mains to desert. For a restaurant with lovely food and a nice wine list the spacing and service could be better. While the place is spacious they lump all the two tops next to and right on top of each other. My boyfriend and I were going for an early Valentines Day dinner. They sat us at a small banquet, so we were sitting side by side. Unfortunately there were two women at the table next to us which was only inches away. The way we were seated it was like we were observing them. I sat at the rounded part of the table so I wasn't looking directly at them, and at my boyfriend instead. When we ordered a bottle of wine, apparently there were two of the same. However we did not know that until we received the bill and discovered there was one much more expensive on a different page. It seems to us that the waitress should have clarified rather than assuming one that was much pricier.
Went here on a recommendation from iron chef Alex Guarnaschelli and was not disappointed! Can’t say enough good things about this amazing establishment. Good was incredible the wine was picked to PERFECTION from the somm their, Christina. One of the top 5 restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. Kevin was a wonderful waiter and I’ll definitely be back.
We were originally told that 8 ppl are too large for participating in restaurant week menu, so 2 of us made a reservation for 4 ppl each and showed up, then asked if we could sit next to each other...they said No Problem! Thank you for this kind arrangement, we know that not many restaurants would accept this. Foods were great, we all enjoyed restaurant week menu (pork belly was a big hit), my friend & I ordered the whole roasted black bass, awesome! We would love to go back!
This was my second time at HEARTH. I love the atmosphere, it's rustic, quiet, and not too "sceney" for East Village. The food is comforting, maybe slightly too savory. Definitely leave for dessert and Sunday brunch bacon, egg on an english muffin is a must!!
On top of the incredible ambiance and meal, the service was outstanding. Our waitress as well as the entire staff was friendly and welcoming. Food was beyond outstanding and they had a box on the table to put your phones for the entirety of the meal to unplug. Cannot say enough wonderful things about my experience here.
What's not to like about Hearth? It's all about the food. And what food! Delicious doesn't begin to do justice to it. It's special food. The fact that it's 'clean' and 'real' food just adds a halo of smugness to how you feel eating it. But it's delicious regardless. I don't think I've ever eaten a dish at Hearth that I didn't want more of, or didn't wish I could eat again tomorrow! Service is friendly and personable, but not cloying or over-attentive. Perfect balance. Both times we've been, the wine has been truly excellent. And always served at the ideal temperature - something many restaurants in NYC seem incapable of getting right (grrrr!). If I had one tiny little quibble, it would be that some of the tables (not ours, actually) were a little bit in darkness. But how's that for a non-complaint? This place is a brilliant gem. I'd say (and I mean it): my favorite restaurant in Manhattan. Go figure.
The 2018 Winter Restaurant Week menu represents the regular menu well. Order the pork belly and the fish. And the wine pairing was a bargain. However, the service was borderline incompetent. Since when do servers walk away and ignore your waves in order to place a cocktail order? Since when is it OK to barely engage your table when taking an order. The tables were slightly grubby and the glasses looked worn and faded from the dish washer. I love this place, but more attention to service and presentation would be a good idea. The check for two came to over $200 before tip. RW was hardly a good deal, but the meal was delicious.
We did the tasting menu which is actually twelve dishes brought out a few at a time. Most of the dishes we were served were the same ones that interested us on the menu anyway and all were great. Our server made sure we had time to enjoy our cocktails before food was served; a great gesture which we really appreciated! Nice pours with the wine pairing as well. All in all a great experience in a relaxed friendly environment.
