If you follow Weston Price or Sally Fallon, then this is the place for you. Clean, healthy cooking. Good fats, local, slow cooking that just makes you feel good.

Entire meal was great except for the short ribs (off the bone) which were tough and fatty...not pleasant to eat.

We sat at the bar seats in the kitchen and our menu selection was chosen with help from Marco, the owner. The food was great, especially the rabbit and the mackerel. The only minor letdown was the gnocchi which was slightly over cooked. Overall a very enjoyable evening.

This wad recommended by our son Ann's daughter on law. Waiter was helpful in making selections. No rush and very relaxing. Food was excellent, taste and presentation. Staff very attentive.

New Year's Eve Dinner with a special tasting menu, and everything my wife and I had was exceptional! This was our special meal for our 20th Anniversary trip, and we could not have chosen a better restaurant. Service was incredible and attentive, yet never hovering. We had a 4 course meal with wine pairings as well as house specialty cocktails to begin the evening. A little over 3 hour event, and I would not change a thing about our night. Absolutely one of the best dinner experiences we have ever had!

We had a great meal and overall very enjoyable dinner at Hearth. In addition to serving great food they managed to keep an unpretentious, accessible atmosphere.

Very unfortunate3 meal. Except for the pate, the meal was unacceptable. The steak tartare was buried by vinegar and garlic and potato chips; we could barely find the meat and it was unidentifiable. My pasta had been reheated so some pieces were hot and come cool; and overall overcooked. My friend's short ribs were stringy. I had eaten at Hearth several times some time ago; this was nothing like my previous meals. Not recommended at all.

Came with my family including 14-48 year olds. Had the tasting menu which is usually just a small group foodie thing but worked great to make it a ‘family style’ meal but fine cuisine at the same time. They made the wine pairings ‘on the fly’ to suit the preferences (taste and consumption volume) of a diverse group including a cocktail pairing for the first course. Chef’s bonuses — Gnocchi and dark chocolate sampler — were the proverbial icing on the cake. Couldn’t have had a better evening for our group.

Hearth is one of my favorite NYC restaurants and one I have been to a number of times over the last 7-8 years. I have a great deal of respect for the chef and the manner in which the restaurant is run. Service is superb and the food is generally delicious. That said, my most recent visit, the first since the restaurant was revamped to be more conscientious of its ingredients, did not quite meet my expectations from earlier visits. The tasting menu, with 3-4 courses coming out at once, some of them quite tiny in size, was an experience greatly removed from the earlier tasting menu, which generally blew me away in terms of quality and value. This is not to say the food is not generally very good, only to say that while I want to support the changes that have been made, I do not feel the restaurant is on the same caliber as it was before. I wish that were not the case. Standouts from my meal included the pastas (the only portions which were perhaps too big) and some excellent beef tartare. Disappointments included the main entrees and their sides (overly salted greens, exceptionally small portions of meat and fish, perhaps a bite-and-a-half per person) and smoky japanese sweet potato that was a bit too... dry. Desserts are, as they always have been, obscenely good. In sum, recommended but I wish I could continue to say - as I used to - that this is the best "bang for the buck" serious restaurant in NYC. I don't know that it retains that title for me anymore. I do hope to come back again and reconsider.

Love this place. I appreciate the importance they put on not wasting food and thoughtfully sourcing ingredients -- and like that their portion sizes are perfect! Also, LOVE whoever is doing their floral arrangements/decor (at least what was up this holiday season).

Our server, Melanie, was the perfect guide through a truly memorable meal. She made exquisite wine recommendations and was able to effortlessly answer all of our questions about each of the sumptuous preparations that came out of the kitchen. The experience was impeccable. We can’t wait to come back!

My dining group included a vegetarian, and a gluten allergy, and those that eat everything. Hearth disappointed no one! Our waitress recommended the apple cider donuts for dessert which was not something we would have chosen and they are not to be missed.

I am not sure how this restaurant maintains a positive review and relationship with zagat. I was very disappointed with the quality of drinks, food, and service.

I ordered a double espresso and they sent a coffee. They still charged me for double espresso.

The over priced meatballs were no better than you'd get at a local Sbarros pizza.

Bone marrow was less than average.

The $28 Black Sea bass was actually very good. Wish there was more of it.

Gnocchi and steak tartare was pretty amateur. They basically tossed salted potato chips from a bag on top of the tartare.

Spent $235 total for two and feel like I was ripped off. I'd skip this place

We were a party of five - amazing Pate and Salads for 1st Course. The Rabbit and Spare Ribs were tasty. The meatballs and the replacement calamari were tasteless and rubbery which caused overall rating to drop a star. Excellent wine sommelier we appreciated her choice👍👍👍

Hearth has been on my radar for quite some time. Hostess was unimpressive. Waiter Jefferson was a professional! We ordered the Chef's Tasting Menu @ $78 per person and were very disappointed. The portions were small and unimpressive lacking substance/refinement to say the least. I think the portions at The French Laundry are bigger. I'm not kidding. But beyond that who's making the decisions in the kitchen? Add to that, a different unenthusiastic "runner" bringing out each of the 12 courses and you have the makings of an unimpressive first dining experience at HEARTH. I would suggest to anyone reading this that you do not order the tasting menu in order to steer clear of the sense of being ripped off when all is said and done. On a positive note, again our waiter was a pro and the atmosphere inside HEARTH has you believing that you are not sitting in a restaurant on 12 Street & 1 Ave! Rather nice. I will cautiously give it another go in the future.

Our server was wonderful, but when the restaurant got busy there were lapses in service -- although another person came over to help out.
The food was delicious and solid. Comfort food -- perfect for a cold evening.
The place was warm and welcoming. Noticed they had round tables which are always nice with a larger group.

Terrible service! Our server barely ever came by, after being seated, we waited about 15 minutes before someone from our party had to go find our server to ask to put our drink orders in.

On top of that, one of their servers had such an offensive body odor that every time he walked by, everyone in the vicinity had the look of pure disgust on their faces.

We had no plans for the evening, and desired something good and not-too-complicated. We'd just moved to the neighborhood from Chelsea and was eager to stay close. We'd been to Hearth with friends a while back, and took a chance to see if we could get reservations on Open Table. Success! Believe the hype -- this place is EVERY good thing you've heard or read. Honest, fresh and deliciously prepared food. Unfussy menu. Friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff. Extensive and interesting wine list.

Perfect date night after moving AND hosting family for Thanksgiving in the same week!
