What Insiders Are Saying
Hearth has been one of the East Village’s best restaurants for over a decade, and it just got a whole lot lighter and leaner.
The staff of this s restaurant are really amazing. Everybody is kind, super happy and they make you feel at home.
One of the best meals I've had in awhile. Service was amazing - everyone was wonderful! Professional, polite without any "airs". I have and will recommend highly.
Thank you for a wonderful evening!!!
One of the best restaurants in NYC providing the best in local, organic, sustainable food.
Unsuspecting exterior, then you walk in and it's bustling. The brick walls and warm wood are complimented by exquisite painting of beets & tomatoes the size of murals.
The best part an employee who is an artists did all of the works. I thought it was great they had a relationship to the work and their worker.
I came by myself walked a half hour, and it was well worth it.
The hostess was a matriarch - warm, inviting, commanded a presence but exuded a genuine care. I felt as if I could have been the only one there, but it was packed.
She walked calmly, slowly - ensuring everything was perfect and each person was attended too. Not asking but carefully watching.
My waitress was equally lovely. My favorite part was the garlic bread. Perfect texture, both soft & crunchy. Parsley, real garlic, and acidic lemon.
My daughter and I were celebrating a special anniversary of her being 1.5years cancer free. The staff at Hearth was attentive and gracious. They helped us start our meal with a lovely champagne toast. We had the tasting menu which was a delicious assortment of items from the menu. We had a wonderful time.
Service excellent/she was very attentive and pleasant
Anchovy appetizer very tasty
My wife had the hamburger and fries
They were excellent
I had the kebab/the portion size was very small/I was starving and had some of wife's potatoes and hamburger
Nice place/just amp up the portion of the kebab
I hate to leave hungry!
Food was awesome. We had the pasta and roasted carrots. Truly one of the best meals I've ecerbhad. Service a bit slower. But this is part of the Italian experience. Pulled a star for mouse level. The service was leisurely but it was hard to relax with noise.
Hearth is not pretentious, well maintained, has impeccable service and is wildly consistent. The chef is brilliant as are the dishes. Simple but completely fabulous. I’ve been back to Hearth over and over again and have never experienced anything out of place or off putting. The food is refined comfort food that suits so many palates. I can bring family, friends, colleagues and dates here without having to worry that they won’t find something they like. EVERYTHING is delicious. I’m obsessed with Hearth, obviously, and will remain to be for the foreseeable future.
Great service, our waiter(Jefferson) was entertaining as well as helpful and attentive, made the evening even more enjoyable....
I've been here several times, but the service we received on this visit was very subpar. It took 20 minutes for us to flag down our waiter to place a drink order and then another 20 minutes to place our dinner order where he informed us they were out of two of the main dishes. The rest of the evening continued in the same fashion, I had to get his attention to order another beverage and another guest at the table didn't order a second drink because she couldn't get his attention. For a restaurant that I typically consider a go-to, this was a disappointment to say the least.
Went in with my wife for brunch Sunday afternoon. At first I wasn’t sure about the menu as a guy that likes meat heavy meals like a burger. But I’m so glad I ate here instead of the usual brunch burger! The seasonal menu is fresh and will not disappoint. Frittata and side of roasted potatoes, and avocado toast. All amazing and delightfully fulfilling. Let me tell you...if you like avocado toast, you must go to Hearth. If you don’t like avocado toast, go to Heath and they will make you change your mind about it.
Loved our server and the food! Amazing recommendations and experience!
Delicious as always
We did the tasting menu, and it was delicious! This place was a good find.
The entire experience was fabulous. We were greeted with a warm soup shot, perfect for a gloomy rainy New York day. Our server was awesome, super friendly and very helpful with the menu and her top picks. The food was amazing and one of my new favorite spots in the city.
We sat at the kitchen bar and Chef Tom and the rest of his crew, particularly Chef Ian, were terrific. Personable, informative, friendly and welcoming. The food and service were spectacular. A truly fine dining experience!
Fantastic food and attentive service. The crowd can get loud and it can get cold with the A/C. We were sat between a very obnoxious trio arguing and yelling at each other and a very rambunctious large group celebrating a birthday. But the food far over shadowed the inconveniences. The spatchcock chicken and roasted mushrooms were fantastic. Love their food ethics too.
Unusual but not bizarre combinations of the freshest ingredients.
Food was interesting and delicious. Server was very helpful in guiding the amount of food our table ordered. Everything was good, ambiance was lovely, would recommend to anyone!
Delicious, delicious food. Our server was attentive and made good recommendations for dishes, wine, and dessert. The space is chic but warm and inviting. The price is somewhat out of my usual range, so I would only come here on special occasions or when hosting guests from out of town, but I would recommend to a friend.
Everything about Hearth was outstanding. I’m still thinking about it days later! The wait staff was kind, attentive, and helpful. Ambiance was exactly what we were looking for - classy but no upturned noses. Lastly, every dish was absolutely delicious and surprising. I can’t wait to come back!
We went for the tasting and it was absolutely amazing.
The charred carrots were outstanding. So was the hummus and the gnocchi. My group was eclectic included a gluten and dairy free person. We all enjoyed the food, the place and the whole evening. Highly recommend
Great Food! Great Wine! Amazing atmosphere! Good Service.
Hearth joins the list of amazing gems in NYC for me. Our server was extremely pleasant and so knowledgable about everything on every menu. The food was outstanding, we has the braised lamb for two which was so good I think I may have gotten a little teary eyed from its awesomeness. The lamb was like butter and the cacio e pepe polenta was also outstanding. Timing was perfect for our courses. Cant say enough good about this place, cant wait to try some more of their menu!
Briefly: the service was excellent- not patronizing, solicitous about the noise level, no pressure to hurry up and get out, professional team. The greens were tasty, the meatballs delicious though a little salty, the gnocchi surprisingly tender and subtle. It felt like a kind of tapas bar, which is fine, though tiny portions meant I ended up getting a dessert (good but not great), something I normally don't do. We had a very expensive and undistinguished bottle of wine, Rosso 2006 do not remember the name- the biggest disappointment of the night. Felt like a place that was serious about delicate, fresh, interesting food. Would love to go there at lunch as I suspect it would be quieter and less clamorous.
Hearth lived up to the reviews I had perused prior to traveling to NYC. I gathered some adventurous dining friends and we had a wonderful set of 10 plates to share. The mushrooms which were sautéed in some yummy oil to crispyness helped change my perception of mushrooms overall (as squishy and rubbery). I also was also pleasantly surprised that I was able to align most of the meal with a recent lectin-free focus of mine. Looking forward to going back next time I'm in the Big Apple.
Really excellent food and service and the dishes were perfect for sharing. I highly recommend.
Ribs is especially good.
Excellent and focused menu, attentive service. High quality ingredients and preparation, with savory qualities. Rightly proportioned. Somewhat expensive but not out of line for the type of food and neighborhood, and in case the food quality supports the price point. Smart crowd and understated yet modern decor.
It was a little loud, but I he food and service were great!!
I was a little disappointed in a few things. You have to buy bread for $7, which was strange. The bread was OK, but nothing to write home about. The fusilli pasta was advertised as having spring vegetables, but they were only peas, some small bits of asparagus, and canned artichokes. Not great, particularly for the money. We didn't have desert, and the server was nice and friendly. The atmosphere was very nice. I might go back and try again.
A little off with the timing of the service. Our party of 4 (the 5th person was ill) arrived on time for our 7:00 dinner May 1st, but took 35 minutes before wait staff took our order, with a polite excuse that there was a big party going on.
I had called in advance to provide information about my 2 bottles of wines (a white and a red) that I will byo, corkage charged at $40 per bottle, and when I presented bottles to the wait staff, to my surprise he quickly took off with them saying they need to be opened at at he back. I was quite confused as to why he couldn't have opened the bottles in our vicinity. About 15 minutes later, he came back with the bottles, both uncorked, one of them apparently poured into a decanter. I mentioned to the lady who was helping serve that I wished the waiter who took bottle had asked me first if I wanted any of my bottles to be decanted beforehand.
Great food arrived at good pacing, and the gnocchi, mushrooms, lamb cutlet, meat balls and desserts were their usual terrific deliciousness that everybody enjoyed.
Great food. Fun atmosphere. Service was painful at times.
Outstanding all around!! Loved it- food, service & ambiance!
I always enjoy visits to Hearth, especially for sharing with friends. I find the food delicious, fresh and creative. Servers are gracoous, knowledgeable and go out of their way to find out answers also, or reccommend a bottle wine for a particular meal. I get a chance to try a new wine from your vast list. Tables are spaced well, not crowded in, so I can see friends, relax and hear our conversations. The vibe is upbeat and friendly, yet serious about good flavor. There’s a happy hum in the restaurant, you feel it when you walk in, that makes me smile.
It was our first time eating at Hearth and I had made a reservation for 6 people on a Thursday night. We were ushered to a table in the back of restaurant next to the kitchen which was loud, smoky and brightly lit. Right away we were not happy as the front of restaurant was dimly lit and ambiance much softer. Service was good but the only fish on menu was already sold out. And with limited menu, that was a little upsetting. We shared apps, gnocchi, meatballs and chicken which was all fine. Overall, I was not impressed enough to return and frankly had to apologize to my guests for my choice of restaurants.. My Advice to manager would be to let your customers know if you’re really busy and back room is only option as I would have gone elsewhere had I known where we would have been seated.
Always love going to hearth when in town.
Great experience and ambiance. Chef and wait staff were very accommodating with dietary restrictions. Food was healthy, delicious and flavorful.
Fantastic.. read up on this wonderful, thoughtful restaurant before you visit and you’ll be even more impressed :)
