The best part about this restaurant was the service, which was personable and friendly. Our server was very attentive, and had good suggestions on what dishes were good. She suggested some delicious cheeses, which were appreciated by all.

Our party of 6 each ended up ordering pasta dishes. The pasta sauce was great, but some of the pasta was hard. We thought the dishes were just okay.

The caeser salad was good, with a tangy lemony dressing. You also have to pay to have bread at the table...eh.

Dessert was good...brown butter ice cream with snicker doodles. The liquor soaked pears were an odd match in what was otherwise a good dessert.

Besides one other party in the restaurant, we were the only ones there. There really wasn't much ambiance to the place, sadly enough.

I was excited when Hay Market popped up into Willow Glen, but now so disappointed. This place is expensive and the food lacks in flavor and originality. It needs to start trying to be more like the gems in SF and Oakland. The chef needs to start researching what is good and interesting in the culinary world. Maybe then I would return - - that is if it's still around which is unlikely.

Simply put, a really poor effort. I had a pickled fried fish that was small and odd, but my husband had an awful pasta that was recommended by our server. Undercooked in a salty broth, the pasta was inedible. Very disappointing.

Unique menu that changes frequently. One of the best spots on Lincoln Avenue in Willow Glen (San Jose).

The staff was especially friendly and warm. We were made to feel right at home and comfortable. Thank you for a happy experience. Our friends drove to Willow Glen from near San Francisco to join us for dinner. They were not disappointed. Food was memorable, wine selection very good, and two of us found a new favorite beer -- the locally brewed ale.

Really enjoyed the entire experience at Hay Market. Went there on a Wednesday, and the small restaurant was not packed so it was quiet which made for nice conversation. The waitstaff was attentive, but definitely relaxed and we never felt like they were trying to rush us through dinner.

The food is fantastic. Their food is locally sourced, so they only have limited options for entrees. However, there is plenty of variety that I don't think many would feel forced into choosing something they weren't excited to try. The preparation and presentation of the food was excellent.

I will definitely be returning to Hay Market.

We have been to the Hay Market many times and always had a great meal. The cheese, bread and charcuterie are outstanding. THe meat dishes are top notch. THe pasta dishes are good but on occasion were too salty. We love the relaxed fun atmosphere and service has been great. Make a reservation as there is not a lot of space.

First time at Hay. Four of us went on a Thursday night. It was quiet which was nice. Wait staff was attentive but not pushy. Drinks were. Great. The food was delicious. This isn't an inexpensive Resturant though.
And the decor is hip rustic but for the cost of the food it would be nice to have a the environment not so barn/ hole in the wall bar like

Overall , the food was good, but I didn't think worth the price. My wife liked the chicken dish, my steak dish was just ok. We both felt the menu selections were too limited. Four entree choices and a few pasta choices.

Our party of seven dined at Haymarket on a busy Friday evening and, although the kitchen seemed a little overwhelmed, it was more than worth the wait. From the steamed mussles, to the creamed Jerusalem artichokes accompanying the (grilled? pan-fried?) sturgeon that was cooked to perfection, to the expertly prepared filet mignon, to the house-made salami and other sausages, our party to a person thoroughly enjoyed everything that was served. we also enjoyed the casual communal dining atmosphere, although it made it difficult for persons at the opposite ends of the table to easily converse.

We found this restaurant on Open Table for a last minute Valentines Day dinner. Pleasantly surprised with the location. The food was delicious. We had the prix fixe menu with the wine sampler- it was a winning combination. All dishes were served by a very friendly and funny server who was gratious enough to offer us a complimentary refill on the wine we most enjoyed. We will defineatly be back to continue sampling the wonderful food!

I liked the service and the food options on the menu. All the dishes were too salty for my taste buds, but my husband didn't mind it. Had the kale, brussel sprouts, the ear shaped pasta, scotch egg, mint and prickly pear desserts -- will come back for a second try

Small plates excellent!

Macaroni was too salty!

Disappointed menu had changed and some if my favorites were no longer available -- especially, the awesome dessert with espresso!

Last visit was excellent! This visit was good.

Hay Market is our go to restaurant. Its close to our home so its convenient, however, there are lots of other restaurants close also that we could go to as easily. Why Hay Market, because the food is great, drinks are yummy, and atmosphere is fun. Basically the Hay Market provides fine dining in a comfortable atmosphere without all the fuss. Another plus is the the restaurant continues to innovate and change on a regular basis keeping things interesting and regular diners on their toes.

from the warm sea salt focaccia and olives, to the Brussels sprouts, to our delicious entree of short ribs, to dessert -- small donuts sprinkled with sugar dipped in an espresso soaked cream -- this was an amazing experience for our palate! I highly recommend this restaurant!

This place had so many good reviews I just had try but was a bit disappointed. Food taste was ok but not great. Portions were so small that you would have to order multiple plates to be full. Count on spending $50+ per person

The cocktails and food that we got were delicious. All of the staff that we interacted with were great. They had the ball game playing for Giants fans, and then they started playing Sharktopus. My friend and I watched the entire thing, with no sound, and had a blast! A bunch of other patrons were into this "so bad it's good" movie, and really, it was such a fun time. I'd go back for the food any day, but now I want to go see what other awful movies they will be showing!

The menu is different and the food combining is creative. My husband got the mac and cheese which was homemade pasta with blue cheese and crisp onion rings. I had the brisket with whipped sweet potatoes and crushed pistachio. It was great blend of flavors but the brisket was really chewy. I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for a different cut of meat so they brought me the salmon, which was just OK. Our server was not friendly but was attentive. Would ultimately give it another shot.

We have eaten at The Haymarket several times, and the food is terrific. I had the Coconut Pork Butt, and it was unbelievable: fork tender, rich (but not heavy), and insanely flavorful. If you aren't comfortable with being seated at the long bar-style tables, you can request one of their tables for four. But, we love the communal feel of the long tables, the friendly and informed servers and lively atmosphere at this neighborhood gem where people come to eat, drink, and have a terrific time.

Just had dinner at Hay Market on labor day weekend. The food was outstanding. Their specialty cocktails are really fresh and different. The homemade bread was outstanding (we ordered dutch crunch rolls). My husband had the meatball and said it was the best he ever had. I had pork in a coconut sauce. This place is awesome.

We've been a fan of the Hay Market in Willow Glen for 2+ years and now they now have a full bar! Their menu continues to evolve with tantalizing entrees and exceed expectations. Our group ordered four different entrees; the meatball, pork belly, beef cutlet, and the vegetarian risotto. All were awesome not to mention the homemade bread! And the community tables are a great too!

Hay Market has the right idea when it comes to cuisine: local, whole, fresh food; It's just what a former San Franciscan Foodie like me wants. However, what's up with the 7 or so TVs in the small space?? Or the servers who don't introduce themselves or explain the menu (which is unique) or make suggestions?? I mentioned that we wanted wine with our dinner and out came the dinner before she had come by for our wine order. AND THE PLACE WAS PRETTY EMPTY.

First off, their cocktails are a recent addition and they definitely do not disappoint. Very creative choices and refreshing on a hot day. We tried several dishes and every single one of them was better than the next. We started with the house made naan with tomato curry and we couldn't get enough of it. Had a kick to it without being too overpowering. We tried the chilled coconut melon soup, spring vegan risotto and the angus flank steak bibimbop. I almost wish I had a bigger stomach so that I could have eaten every last morsel and then ordered more food. This is definitely a place to visit if you want great tasting, straight from-the-farm fresh food.

Had a lovely dinner at Hay Market. The potato, bacon, gorgonzola soup was really good - perhaps a bit saltier than necessary - but that didn't stop me from almost licking the bowl. Had the salad broccoli/baby greens salad and the burrata was lovely with a lemon dressing so good I really, really want to know how to make it! Shared the house-made nan with a dipping sauce that had just the right amount of heat. My son had the Bibimbop and the flank steak was cooked to perfection, the kimchi was surprisingly tasty - not an easy feat, since I've seen so many restaurants mess that up! Can't wait to go back again and try more things. I also highly recommend the "fashioned," a great cocktail to begin my meal!
