Our focus is simply that. We are a full service restaurant and beer boutique with over 1,000 single bottles, 11 specialty growler fills, 11 rotating drafts and amazing weekend brunch, weekly breakfast, lunch and dinner. Located right in the Italian Market area of South Philadelphia gives us access to a variety of different ingredients allowing us to make anything our hearts desire. We make everything here from our chips to our oven roasted meats and do not limit ourselves to one cuisine. A true scratch kitchen!
What do we keep in mind when creating our dishes? YOU, THE BEER AND GREAT COMPANY!
Come in. Eat. Drink. And join us for a fireside chat! Salute!
Brunch: Saturday & Sunday: 9am-4pm
Good lunch or brunch spot. Sandwich and salad were fresh and well presented. Homemade chips tasted a little old. Service staff was friendly, could have been a bit more attentive especially since the restaurant was not crowded. Would revisit in the future.
Love the salmon entree with the farro The chicken broccoli rabe sandwich is outstanding. Great beer selection
Good beer bottle selection. Food was decent.
Server was very helpful with both the drink and the meal menu. Very many good choices. Nice visit.
Fabulous food, beer and sevice... will absolutely return!
This spot was really laidback on a rainy Thursday morning. We had reservations but really didn't need them. The spot was quiet, the staff was friendly, and the cinnamon swirl pancake was yummy. The breakfast sandwiches "sammies" were also impressive.
While the good was incredible, the service is what really made Hawthorne's stand apart! I wish I had caught his name, but our server really went above and beyond. We ended up getting stood up by the rest of party and then we had some ordering issues and he took it all in stride and never made us feel bad about it at all! He's the epitome of what great service should be! Thank you!!!
Great place. Very helpful staff. Food is consistently delicious. Huge beer selection
Had an enjoyable supper, good fried pickles, frittes and steak.
Grumpy unaccommodating service. Food was decent and space was a little tight.
Great meal, rude waiter.
Horrible food and service. There is absolutely no consistency with this restaurant and the staff could care less.
We were a *little* disappointed the steak and frites were off the menu, but with SO many other delicious items (brined pork chop!), it was easier to get over it... Not to mention the great tap selections and bottle 'fridge!
Everything was amazing.
The food at Hawthorne’s was very tasty and accommodating to a gluten allergy in the party. The service however was lacking. Meals arrived at the table at very disjointed times, we ordered additional drinks during the meal and unfortunately never received them. The ambiance and overall vibe of the place was fantastic in contrast to the service!
Neighborhood, cozy, comfy feel with great food. The staff could not be more lovely and accommodating. I wish I lived closer to frequent more often. The real wood burning fireplaces added that extra bit of hominess on the very cold day we were there. Everything our group of 3 had was exceptional!!
We had the most fun waiter ever.
I've been here before and tonight I was quite dissatisfied. One server for the entire restaurant, food quality wasn't up to par at all and just lack of care from a service stand point. From the mac & cheese, mussels, pork chop & the salmon no good! We couldn't even finish our meal. There was food left over from each & every dish. We were still hungry but we're too disappointed to order anything else(not worth the carbs or money). We did enjoy the beer, Christmas decor & the ambience but not enough to return.
Nice spot for a Saturday get together. Cool waiters, very tasty dishes, and reasonably priced bottles of wine.
Food-sub par, cider was flat, waitress for very slow and inattentive... however, I have heard good things so would try again for brunch
Hawthorne's boasts an interesting 'self-service' beer/wine/cider option, that offers customers a wide variety of alcoholic choices to stay or to go. This supplements an interesting selection of on-tap beer and cocktails. The risotto was delicious, though the Asian salad was just ok and a bit bland. Happy hour options looked great, but sadly, we arrived after happy hour ended. Cute outdoor dining space is perfect for a fall evening--and right near Philadelphia Magic Gardens, too.
We had wonderful service & food - with a great ambiance.
My boyfriend and I love going for brunch!! The Crabby Dick is out of this world. Great spot!
Good at Hawthorne's was great as usual. Our server was very unfriendly and seemed completely uninterested in us, despite the fact that the restaurant was empty on a Tuesday night and we were a party of 8. He could have gotten a much better tip from a table full of service industry customers!
I love the food and atmosphere at this great neighborhood gem called Hawthornes. But what makes it even more special is when we have the opportunity to see Susan. The rare times she is there to welcome us always make our evening even better with her wit, humor and lovely energy. I have dined here often and hope to return many times. <3 u Hawthornes
One of our go-to places in our neighborhood. Great ambience. Casual comfort that still takes great pride in their food. I ordered a dinner salad and the only complaint was that the dressing was applied quite heavily. Overall a great meal and great place to catch up with friends.
Very good service and friendly great food reasonable price and a great value.
What an incredible casual but upscale neighborhood gem Hawthorne's has become.
The tuna steak sweet potato frites is my favorite entree these days. It's AMAZING.
LOVE to sit outside.
Comfortable beautiful and sturdy outdoor chairs, a little light landscaping & being just far away enough from South street for quite conversation have made this a a real treat for outdoor dining.
We will continue to come back often and everyone should try this place!
We took our granddaughter and it was perfect. Excellent beer choices also. It was very quiet on a Saturday evening.
We were at a convention in Philadelphia and we used OpenTable to find good restaurants. This is how we found Hawthornes.
It had great on-line reviews. We were a little taken back when we walked in because of its overly-relaxed atmosphere. We were hungry and decided to be open minded about the restaurant. We are glad we did.
The service was very good. The menu choices had some unique items and combinations.
All of our food choices were fantastic.
The restaurant has a reputation of being a good place for beer, which I am sure it is, but we did not have any beer.
The wine choices were weak and were "OK".
Next time we are in Philadelphia, we will definitely be going back.
Excellent service, great food, terrific beer selection, nice ambience, fairly easy parking. Will be back!!
Shrimp pil pil was fantastic. Mushroom risotto was delicious. Looking forward to returning soon
My son suggested Hawthorne's for my birthday dinner. It has a great menu; not too big; interesting choices. Three of my family members had burgers and fries; everyone was happy with their choice. I went for the short rib on a potato latke; it was delicious. I am not a beer drinker but my husband and sons were thrilled with all the choices. Great little neighborhood place; young crowd, nice atmosphere. Leave time for parking your car, though. Tough to get a spot.
Hawthornes' food never disappoints and the service is always impeccable.
We went for a nice casual Easter brunch with our son, cousin, and mother in law. Delicious and fast!!! We can't wait to go again!
Great service. Fun to pick own beers! Very accommodating for groups
As always: reliable, delicious and great service! I've been here dozens of times and hope to be back often. The tuna steak entree was particularly delicious. Also I'm really happy about the new wine options A+
As always, excellent service!!! Their brunch menu is fantastic.
I've been to Hawthorne's several times and was excited for my reservation, but ended up being very disappointed. We waited about 20 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. The service was slow, even towards the end of our meal when the crowd had thinned drastically. The food itself was overpriced for what we received. The falafel plate was pretty good, but for $17, I was expecting something outstanding - I can get a similar quality and better tasting dish for $10 or less somewhere else. The seared haloumi was $12 for 3 pieces and was very salty. Zahav's version of the dish is much tastier, a bit larger and less expensive(!!). I wish my experience had been more similar to my past visits.
