Hawksmoor Air Street Ratings and Reviews
We visited Hawksmoor based on various reviews. We found the service to be excellent & the atmosphere buzzy, but unfortunately our food was very poor.
We started with the smoked salmon & crab toast - not bad, but not great.
We both ordered beef fillet cooked medium rarefir our mains - alas, both pieces of meat arrived dry, cold, overcooked & tough. We were extremely disappointed as we love our meat & were expecting melt-in-your-mouth quality based on Hawksmoor’s reputation. Thankfully, the béarnaise & peppercorn sauces were delicious & helped us to make our way through the cold cuts.
We finished up with the apple & cranberry pie & sticky toffee pudding - again, both were not bad but not amazing.
Thankfully, the service was exceptionally attentive, the interior beautifully appointed & the atmosphere buzzy, but we always place food as no 1 priority in any dining experience so our overall impression was very poor.
Yet again Hawksmoor doesn't disappoint. We'd not been to Air Street but the open table offer was too good to resist. We arrived at 9pm an the service was so prompt and friendly we'd had three courses by just after 10pm, and yes the steak is the best in London, probably the UK!
We were a family group of 7 for big family celebration- joint 'twins' birthdays!- Sunday lunch - great experience throughout, fantastic food and strong wine list - informal happy atmosphere and serving team/waitress+waiter were genuinely engaged with us throughout. We loved it and will definitely return. I've eaten at covent gdn Hawksmoor previously - this was way better atmosphere wise. Barman and our Waitress left real good memories of special families day - respect to you Hawksmoor and thank you!
Hawksmoor is a really good place for any occasion: from a romantic anniversary dinner to a loud friends get together. All meat cuts are tasty and the chefs really know how to cook it (even a well done steak doesn't look terrible). Mac 'n cheese is usually one of my favourites sides but it is apparently a bit of a hit and miss (last dinner I've had we did not manage to finish it because of it not being up to standards). Desserts are usually good but the choices for the set menu offer were all too similar (and too heavy).
A full dinner is usually pricey but always worth it.
We had high hopes for the Châteaubriand. We requested it was done medium, but it arrived well done (it was difficult to spot any red) and chewy in parts - more than a little disappointing.
The fries were only ok, and the bearnaise source was gloopy.
Overall a disappointing experience.
Whilst the starters and deserts were very tasty. The quality of the rump steaks that my wife and I both had was way below the standard we would expect from Hawksmoor, who are supposed to be famed for the quality of their meat. Both our steaks were tough to cut, way too chewy and lacked any sort of natural flavour. My wife sent her (supposed) rare steak back to the kitchen, only to have it replaced with what could be best described as a 'scrag end' cut, which was tougher and had less flavour than the first!
We have been to Hawksmoor a few times and have previously been very satisfied with the quality of the food.......we will not be rushing back!
We ordered the T-bone but the meat was very tough. Rest of the food was good but since this is a meat restaurant it was disappointing that the main dish was a let down. And this is not the first time the meat is not good in this place. Overall not great for the price tag
I've eaten at Hawksmoor Seven Dials previously, which was excellent, but not Air Street. A quick drink in the bar before an early dinner in the restaurant. I couldn't fault this dining experience. Staff were great - friendly, helpful and very efficient. The set meal of £35 for 3 courses plus drink was brilliant value. I thought that maybe the portions would be quite small, but that was certainly not the case. The rib eye was cooked to perfection, and the starter of potted beef and bacon with Yorkshires was very filling. I liked the buzzing atmosphere too. Great place for a sociable meal.
