Hawker Fare- SF
HOLY MOUNTAIN is a craft cocktail bar and lounge above Hawker Fare.
6:30pm - 12am
At 8 on a Saturday night, this place was hopping, but we got an Open table reservation 30 minutes before.
Food serving sizes are plentiful, I recommend bringing 3-4 people so everyone can have some variety.
We got the BBQ chicken, Brussel Sprouts and Rice noodles with tofu. That was the upper limit 2 of us could manage. Think of the food as cross between Thai and Vietnamese. Everything was great.
The venue is pretty casual, mostly larger groups 4- and up. Crowd was on the younger side.
Bar service and drinks were great. Not very sweet. Plenty of EtOH.
Expensive for Lao “street” food. These dishes are supposed to be family style yet the portions are small. The server didn’t even know what I meant when I asked for jaew mak lenn dipping sauce. Please train your staff on the food and culture. It was poorly represented and just catered to entitled white people who think they are “cultured”
Great place for a casual get together/dinner with friends. Shared a scorpion bowl among 4 people, and shared the chicken & rice, fried chicken, and BBQ pork ribs. Great value & good quality!!
The food was good, but it was so noisy that we couldn't not talk to each other and the waitress couldn't hear our order. We also couldn't flag her down to order rice.
The food was great, the drinks were delicious, and the vibe/music was fun! The service was just okay.
Food was amazing I enjoyed my night .
The ambiance and service are great at Hawker Fare but the food is decidedly "meh." Overly sweet, and too bland, it's very Americanized Thai/Lao food.
Had an early dinner last Saturday with a total of 9 people, and we thoroughly enjoyed the casual environment, great food, fine and friendly service, and the ability to share conversation. Since it was on the early side the restaurant was not completely full, so I can't speak to how the noise level would be if we were there at a different time. We were seated close to a wall and it was great and not noisy. We all agree we would be more than happy to dine again at Hawker Fare. Loved the blistered green beans, the rice ball salad, and my dining companions all seemed to enjoy their dishes too. Drinks were great. Hawker Fare is a fine choice for a casual meal with friends or family.
Our group of four shared four dishes: papaya salad, fried chicken, green beans, and beef shortribs. The food was great!
Waaaaaaay toooooo salty
Great food, pretty busy place so sometimes need to track down your server... but overall good ambiance and food.
The food was generally good, except for the mango sticky rice, which was awful - the mango wasn’t ripe and the sticky rice was dry and flavorless.
i have the book and love it but the food was not very good. Overly salted and I love salt
The food here is so authentic. An absolute treat every time I have the opportunity to dine at Hawker Fare.
The food is fantastic and the always have an availability for groups! This is one of our go-tos
Sensational food, brilliant staff, overall a fabulous evening
Wonderful Interesting Food, Fun Ambiance setting. The staff is friendly and prompt. Great cocktail menu.
Great for groups ...we loved the steamed fish & the virgin Sacrifice up
Every dish was absolutely delicious. Long beans and brussel sprouts outstanding, spicy, tangy great textures. Short Ribs with Tamarind sauce wonderful. Egg drop noodle soup yummy. Salads very good.
Delicious & very loud. Diners hosting a white elephant party were literally screaming, trying to get the whole restaurant involved in their comic gift opening. Fun for them, but not what we were there for. This location is way less chill than the intimate Oakland one. The food was still excellent.
The male host was incredibly rude, didn’t say a single word to me when I walked in and said hello to him (and he wasn’t busy, just standing there). He wordlessly showed me my table and then skulked away. So weird.
The green beans are outstanding!
An amazingly good experience. The drinks were well priced, and they had a pretty good range of cocktails. The appetizers and food were also very good. Our server was very good, and very accommodating to us, considering we had a large group of 10, and 1 or 2 more persons showed up and it was not an issue. Everyone enjoyed the evening very much. I especially appreciated the fact that our server responded affirmatively to my request for separate checks, since everyone was ordering different quantities of drinks and food, and I did not think it would be fair for everyone to split the bill.
I have to say that when restaurants and their employees go out of their way to accommodate their guests, then that is great customer service, and one that I make sure I fully acknowledge.
they had a reservation available at 10pm but the restaurant closes at 9pm, it was confusing and we had to move our plans to be able to get here
Great food and great service!
The food is hit or miss. Service is fine, staff is very friendly though.
Fun place, especially the drinks. Would be great for groups. Maybe a girls night out? But didn't work well for dinner with a friend, where we wanted to be able to hear each other without shouting.
Good for groups if you have a reservation. I enjoyed my salmon, though my father thought his BBQ chicken was dry.
I would only return here for drinks, maybe a light dinner. The energy, ambiance, and drinks were really great. However, we waited more than 45 minutes for our table (reservation made), and the server seemed extremely uninterested in serving us. The food was average Thai food at best. Really great place to go for a bite to eat and drinks before going out, but don't make this the main event.
Great for a big group!
Second visit to Hawker Fare, again food was excellent, service was a bit slow as help was working several tables at once. Nice choices for drinks and wine.
Excellent food! The folding chairs are cute and on-theme, but uncomfortably hard after a while. Otherwise, an excellent experience.
Awesome food. Subpar service.
The food is so good!! All very flavorful especially the curry, wow!
Fun place with great food. So flavorful.
Did not disappoint. Food is as delicious as always and drinks were tasty too!
Food was way too salty, small portions for the price.
We had the blistered string beans to start; these were the best things we ordered. We also had the FRANGRANT “CHICKEN & RICE” (sic), ISAAN BBQ CHICKEN, and the RED CURRY RICE VERMICELLI NOODLES. The first two dishes were disappointingly similar and disappointingly bland. The curry dish was tasty but somewhat difficult to eat. They were out of the Lao beer and did not have the whole fish dish. Maybe going on a Monday didn't give them a chance to restock from the weekend. One of us ordered a fancy drink that came in a Moai-shaped glass. It was pretty strong but good. We might go to this place again to try some different dishes, but because it's so loud, it won't be a regular stop for us.
We loved the red curry tofu (ordered rice on the side) and the chicken and rice! Having lived in Asia for about a decade, i can say this food was authentic and delicious! We were there on a Sunday evening and service wasn’t that attentive, but it may be better during a busier time. Would recommend!
Unique food and awesome cocktails.
