About Hawaii Prince - Hakone
Hakone, housed within the Hawaii Prince Hotel, serves fresh Japanese cuisine in its bright and modern restaurant overlooking the beauty of Kahanamoku Lagoon. While Hakone has a menu from which you may make your selection from items like tempura shrimp and vegetables and Wafu New York strip steak with a spicy wasabi soy sauce glaze, most diners elect to go to the extensive buffet. With tables laden with fresh and well-prepared sushi rolls, sashimi, meats and desserts, it is little wonder why. For one set price you may get your fill of crab legs, miso soup, a tantalizing array of noodle dishes, steamed veggies, chicken katsu and fried oysters, to name a few. Diners also rave about the dessert table, which is filled with decadent choices such as bread pudding, chocolate mousse cake and fresh fruit.
Hakone's scrumptious buffet offerings perfect compliment the paradisiacal setting.

Hawaii Prince - Hakone Ratings and Reviews
The buffet has great variety of excellent quality and tasty food, but the hand-made sushi was the highlight! Service is friendly, courteous and very timely. We were seated in the main room and the noise level got quite loud because we were next to a table of about ten young men who were partying. As seniors, we especially enjoyed the senior discount!
It was our first time there and I think we should have been given an introduction to the buffet. Didn't know how the Nabe (?) worked but saw others hold the meat in the hot broth to cook it. I was wondering where the sushi was and overheard the next table talking about the line. The line for that was long and they ran out of the uni. Had to wait many time for the tempura and sashimi and it was not that busy.
First time at Hakone. Celebrated our 9th anniversary. I was a little skeptical of dining there because of some of the reviews that I read. I am so glad that I decided to go. Food was very fantastic. Buffet line was kept full and cold items were cold and hot items kept hot. Quality of sushi was awesome. There was a nice assortment of sushi... Uni was delicious! Ambiance was great. Good lighting, nice Japanese music playing at a comfortable volume. Service was outstanding. Service with a smile! It was worth paying the $$$ will definitely eat there again.
You got to just try it for yourself!
Top quality sashimi (hamachi, ahi, and salmon) and sushi. However, we went at 5:45 pm (early) on a Sunday because we have been there at later times in the past and they have run out of uni. To our disappointment, they did not have any uni when we went. That is one of the main reasons we go, since our son loves uni. It's not worth the wait in the sushi line if they don't have uni. We go there 4-5 times per year, but we will unlikely go back if they no longer serve uni. The other food is great, though.
The wait staff was very efficient and attended to our needs very quickly. The sashimi and nigiri were very delicious, some of the cuts were melt in your mouth good. That however was the best of the food that was available. The dessert was a little under what I expected the quality to be after tasting the fish. However, my family and boyfriend were quite happy and that's really what matters most to me.
I have wanted to try this for so long and expected a lot more for the price. Only 3 kinds of sashimi which were cut so tiny. It took them forever to refill the sashimi. Also I think there should have been more than one kind of roll. Additionally the dessert choices were bad and there were no signs to let me know what kind of dessert was even on there. However, the potato salad was awesome as was the egg tofu with mushroom and service was pretty good. I wouldn't do this again was too expensive for the food and the placement of the buffet made it crowded due to the closeness of the tables next to it. Nothing is better than Tokkuri Tei for Japanese in Hawaii.
Hawaii Prince Resorts' Hakone is hands-down the best Japanese buffet on island. All of the food is prepared well and seasoned to please most tastebuds. The star of this buffet line is their sushi bar where a sushi chef is at your call to create nigiri, gunkan, temaki and maki sushi with fresh seafood. Even the quality of nori that is used to roll these specialties is toasted and has a good texture to not fall apart when bit into. Servers are attentive to your dining requests and routinely replenish or rearrange the assorted hot and cold dishes.
The Japanese food buffet at Hakone is delicious and has a good variety of authentic dishes. Many favorite Japanese dishes like tempura, sashimi, sukiyaki, as well as a "made to order" sushi are presented in a beautiful Japanese style dining room. The wait staff is very attentive and courteous which make for an enjoyable dining experience.
Have been to Hakone a number of times. Could always count on good service & food. Will not go again. Service was good as always but food presentation & quality very poor. Usually the tables have an abundance and wide variety of choices. This time tables were sparse, selection small & food did not seem fresh altho raw fish was good when available. Not worth the price.
If you love fresh sushi and sashimi then Hakone is the restaurant for you!! Fresh good quality fish and sushi. Our server was very attentive and sweet. Our water glasses were refilled without asking and she even had a special dessert for us since we were celebrating our Anniversary. We will be sure to return again for some delicious sashimi and sushi. I'm still drooling over the Uni and Ikura sushi!!!
I was looking for a good sushi place while staying in Waikiki. This restaurant is a Japanese food buffet with all you can eat sushi. It is also on the smaller side so make reservations first.
The sushi was amazing. It tasted fresh and had a buttery texture. Please note that they make hand rolls and nigiri style sushi. There is also a sashimi plate in the buffet with Tuna, Yellowtail and Salmon. The rest of the buffet was filled with items such as sukiyaki, shrimp tempura, miso soup with a crab base, and more. The food was delicious. Our server was very attentive during our restaurant experience.
Service was impeccable. Willene, our server, was very attentive and recommended dishes that most people enjoy, since it was our first time. We watched the beautiful sunset and the food was very tasty, top quality. Atmosphere was intimate. Superb service, outstanding meal.
We went for the buffet which was very small and limited for $57 per person. The food trays were
always empty and the quality of some of the dishes were very disappointing. I really was
expecting better tasting and better quality but it tasted very low quality.
