Hakone, housed within the Hawaii Prince Hotel, serves fresh Japanese cuisine in its bright and modern restaurant overlooking the beauty of Kahanamoku Lagoon. While Hakone has a menu from which you may make your selection from items like tempura shrimp and vegetables and Wafu New York strip steak with a spicy wasabi soy sauce glaze, most diners elect to go to the extensive buffet. With tables laden with fresh and well-prepared sushi rolls, sashimi, meats and desserts, it is little wonder why. For one set price you may get your fill of crab legs, miso soup, a tantalizing array of noodle dishes, steamed veggies, chicken katsu and fried oysters, to name a few. Diners also rave about the dessert table, which is filled with decadent choices such as bread pudding, chocolate mousse cake and fresh fruit.
Hakone's scrumptious buffet offerings perfect compliment the paradisiacal setting.
Wonderful, wonderful food!!! I went back to make reservations for next week and they're no longer on Open Table! I hope they will reconsider!.
The buffet has great variety of excellent quality and tasty food, but the hand-made sushi was the highlight! Service is friendly, courteous and very timely. We were seated in the main room and the noise level got quite loud because we were next to a table of about ten young men who were partying. As seniors, we especially enjoyed the senior discount!
This was our first trip to Hakone and we will definitely be back. It has just become our favorite restaurant. The sushi is just incredible. The view of the harbor is great. The ambience is terrific and very quiet. All in all a great dining experience.
Tasty Japanese food and service.
We've been to Hakone many times. Great sashimi and sushi from the sushi chef. We would recommend this place to anyone!!
Good overall experience. Friendly staff. Food was delicious. Just a bit pricey...
Food was so delicious. The quality of the seafood was so good. You could tell it was fresh. Ambiance was nice.
It was our first time there and I think we should have been given an introduction to the buffet. Didn't know how the Nabe (?) worked but saw others hold the meat in the hot broth to cook it. I was wondering where the sushi was and overheard the next table talking about the line. The line for that was long and they ran out of the uni. Had to wait many time for the tempura and sashimi and it was not that busy.
First time at Hakone. Celebrated our 9th anniversary. I was a little skeptical of dining there because of some of the reviews that I read. I am so glad that I decided to go. Food was very fantastic. Buffet line was kept full and cold items were cold and hot items kept hot. Quality of sushi was awesome. There was a nice assortment of sushi... Uni was delicious! Ambiance was great. Good lighting, nice Japanese music playing at a comfortable volume. Service was outstanding. Service with a smile! It was worth paying the $$ will definitely eat there again.
You got to just try it for yourself!
Top quality sashimi (hamachi, ahi, and salmon) and sushi. However, we went at 5:45 pm (early) on a Sunday because we have been there at later times in the past and they have run out of uni. To our disappointment, they did not have any uni when we went. That is one of the main reasons we go, since our son loves uni. It's not worth the wait in the sushi line if they don't have uni. We go there 4-5 times per year, but we will unlikely go back if they no longer serve uni. The other food is great, though.
Hakone has been around for a number of years and never disappoints. The buffet is beautifully arranged and the ingredients are first rate. There is quite a variety from made-to-order sushi to sukiyaki to broiled steak. We love the atmosphere.
The wait staff was very efficient and attended to our needs very quickly. The sashimi and nigiri were very delicious, some of the cuts were melt in your mouth good. That however was the best of the food that was available. The dessert was a little under what I expected the quality to be after tasting the fish. However, my family and boyfriend were quite happy and that's really what matters most to me.
Everything was great but I was sad to find that there was no uni that night.
I have wanted to try this for so long and expected a lot more for the price. Only 3 kinds of sashimi which were cut so tiny. It took them forever to refill the sashimi. Also I think there should have been more than one kind of roll. Additionally the dessert choices were bad and there were no signs to let me know what kind of dessert was even on there. However, the potato salad was awesome as was the egg tofu with mushroom and service was pretty good. I wouldn't do this again was too expensive for the food and the placement of the buffet made it crowded due to the closeness of the tables next to it. Nothing is better than Tokkuri Tei for Japanese in Hawaii.
Gracous hospitality combined with an amble variety of yumminess! The sashimi and sushi were melt-in-mouth fresh!
Hakone located in a hotel charges $56 for their tiny buffet that has low quality meats, fish and limited selection.
I would not recommend this to anyone.
This buffet should be around $25 per person not $56 for what they have and the low quality of food.
The food is great. It is buffet style and Japanese food. The sushi is made fresh right in front of you. Also the service is really good. This is a good place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.
Hawaii Prince Resorts' Hakone is hands-down the best Japanese buffet on island. All of the food is prepared well and seasoned to please most tastebuds. The star of this buffet line is their sushi bar where a sushi chef is at your call to create nigiri, gunkan, temaki and maki sushi with fresh seafood. Even the quality of nori that is used to roll these specialties is toasted and has a good texture to not fall apart when bit into. Servers are attentive to your dining requests and routinely replenish or rearrange the assorted hot and cold dishes.
Going to Hakone is like going to Japan without buying the plane ticket. The selection is limited but every item has quality.
The Japanese food buffet at Hakone is delicious and has a good variety of authentic dishes. Many favorite Japanese dishes like tempura, sashimi, sukiyaki, as well as a "made to order" sushi are presented in a beautiful Japanese style dining room. The wait staff is very attentive and courteous which make for an enjoyable dining experience.
Better than normal buffet food. If you want quality over quantity, this is not the place. If you want an excellent buffet (esp. if you like Japanese food) then this is the place.
Very good sushi bar but can only order 6 pieces at a time (appropriate ) but causes a line up. Food over all quie good with nice variety. Can get busy, reservations recommended.
Excelent service! Even sang happy birthday to my wife 😀
The Uni sushi was wonderful! All the dishes were delicious and tastefully displayed.
Server wasn't too attentive, (forget our drinks)but still friendly. Food was good and fresh. Overall a good find and may return on a special occasion in the future
Best Ahi and Hamachi sashimi at any restaurant buffet. They keep filling the tray and the fish is fresh. The sushi bar serves Uni that melts in the mouth and is so sweet.
Have been to Hakone a number of times. Could always count on good service & food. Will not go again. Service was good as always but food presentation & quality very poor. Usually the tables have an abundance and wide variety of choices. This time tables were sparse, selection small & food did not seem fresh altho raw fish was good when available. Not worth the price.
Nice Japanese buffet spread. I wish parking was not as costly. Already spending major bucks and even with validation, it costs a few more dollars. Hate to be nickel and dimed.
If you love fresh sushi and sashimi then Hakone is the restaurant for you!! Fresh good quality fish and sushi. Our server was very attentive and sweet. Our water glasses were refilled without asking and she even had a special dessert for us since we were celebrating our Anniversary. We will be sure to return again for some delicious sashimi and sushi. I'm still drooling over the Uni and Ikura sushi!!!
I was a little disappointed with the food, however the service was outstanding.
Hakone is so famous Japanese restaurant on the website, but food is not so special and delicious except the susi corner. Even the susi corner, there was not so many kinds. But I really appreaciate the the service from the staff is wonderful- kind, gentle.
I was looking for a good sushi place while staying in Waikiki. This restaurant is a Japanese food buffet with all you can eat sushi. It is also on the smaller side so make reservations first.
The sushi was amazing. It tasted fresh and had a buttery texture. Please note that they make hand rolls and nigiri style sushi. There is also a sashimi plate in the buffet with Tuna, Yellowtail and Salmon. The rest of the buffet was filled with items such as sukiyaki, shrimp tempura, miso soup with a crab base, and more. The food was delicious. Our server was very attentive during our restaurant experience.
the food tasted great and the service was top notch. Theselection for the price was not. We spent 129$ for two of us, for that price I would go to mortamers.
Really fresh on the sashimi, we have been there 2 times during my stay there, high quality buffet
Food was delicious and service was excellent - what more can you ask for?
Service was impeccable. Willene, our server, was very attentive and recommended dishes that most people enjoy, since it was our first time. We watched the beautiful sunset and the food was very tasty, top quality. Atmosphere was intimate. Superb service, outstanding meal.
Great place and the best Japanese buffet I have ever had.
Delicious selection of expertly prepared dishes in an elegant setting. There is something for everyone in this delightful buffet.Stan
Great selection of simple Japanese foods!
We went for the buffet which was very small and limited for $57 per person. The food trays were
always empty and the quality of some of the dishes were very disappointing. I really was
expecting better tasting and better quality but it tasted very low quality.
