Haven Ratings and Reviews
We are over the moon about Haven! It was our first anniversary and we were looking for a special place to go where neither of us had been before. A friend told us about it and we couldn’t have had a better experience. The ambiance was perfect, the food was divine, and I’m pretty sure that the only waiting service I’ve had that could compare to our waiter, David D, two nights ago was at Bern’s. David truly is a class-act and I can’t thank him enough for making our night that much better. He even made sure we were able to make it out on time for The Book of Mormon at The Straz. I will be recommending The Haven to everyone I can and I can’t wait to have another dining experience there! Bravo! -Tristan
P.S.- I hope David is working next time we come in.
We arranged for an early dinner, pre-concert. We enjoyed very reasonably priced happy hour drinks and received excellent recommendations from our waitress in selecting from the diverse cheese menu. We were afforded just the right amount of attention from our waitress and left with a wonderful memory for the birthday celebration of my wife, followed by Lady Gaga.
Grilled oysters had thick cheese on top that lifted off.. the worst. Tasted like they came out of frozen food section. Octopus tasted great but was cold when put in front of us. Had to send back to the kitchen to get it warmed. Steak tartare tasted like ground round. I never complain about food but this was sub standard and not cheap. Very disappointed.
Very interesting food combinations and complex flavors made every dish enjoyable. Friendly, informative service from our waitress was helpful. Menu format is for small plates, which allowed us to try many different items. Menu includes charcuterie options or a chef recommended plate. We dined on a Monday evening and our only regret is that when we left after our meal we saw a sign on the street promoting 50% off charcuterie on Mondays. Our waitress did not mention this special and the sign was facing the opposite direction from the parking lot, so we didn't see it on the way in.
Great fun place for a get together with friends- not a family dinner gathering kind of place. Food was ok, nothing to rave about. Had the fois gras tarchon, hog head cheese, pate grand mere, wild mushrooms dumplings, steak tartare, pomegranate lamb ribs. The waitress recommended the grilled octopus- not good. To soft, doughy-like taste. The only good thing was the lamb ribs. Didn't know it was small dishes (tappas-like). Not worth the money spent. Was looking for a family dinner-a little disappointed. My husband had some wine- literally 2 sips. We were looking at each other and was like "that's it?" the amount was like a tasting amount at other restaurants.
Haven was amazing! I was in Tampa for less than a week and went twice because it was so good. The chacuterie and cheese selection is out of this world. Definitely get the chicken liver pate and the house Hab's cheddar. The goat cheese fritter appetizer is also great. Awesome beer, wine, and drink menu as well. Can't recommend it highly enough.
What a great way to celebrate a birthday with a couple girlfriends. The ambiance and food selection was excellent and the customer service was beyond exceptional. I ordered an Aviation cocktail and it wasn't made correctly but still had a great taste. Before I even mentioned a word, the bartender already corrected the cocktail and took care of my drink order. The server was beyond informative and everyone was so attentive and courteous. Such a great gem to the South Howard area and I would recommend this venue to any couple or ladies night out! I will be returning without any hesitations.
Incredible service from Lamarl. Cheese selection was incredible but was, admittedly, underwhelmed with the food. The Mac and cheese is supposed to be a specialty and I thought it was OK at best. Nice flavor but lacked the hearty, rich cheesiness most like in a Mac and cheese. The pigeon was most disappointing....crazy small portion for the price. Flavor was good but the meat was tough. Had a great time and will be back....but with reservations (pun not intended).
We went specifically for the king crab dumpling, bone marrow and cold smoked ribeye. Haven had changed their menu but did not update their new menu on their website. It did not have any of the things we wanted to try. We spent over $200 on food and nothing was worth mentioning. Service was also bad. The waiter seemed like he did not want to wait on us. Would not recommend to any friends or family members.
Went for the Legacy 4 beer promo (amazing beer) paired with their burger (delicious burger) and got some ceviche, mussels, and dirt pie to fill us up (all great/memorable). Our server, Lamar, made the meal special as well. Friendly, professional. Really good at what he does... Ask for him by name.
We had Lamar, he was absolutely incredible! I am a self appointed service snob, and he could not have been more perfect! His suggestions were spot on, we never had to look for him when wanting to order something else and was as charming as ever! And for that matter, EVERYONE that was working at Haven was wonderful! They were able to seat us 15 mins early, the food runner was friendly and the bartenders were even kind when we were headed out! I will absolutely be back and request Lamar again! Thank you for making our “best friends night,” amazing!!
We've beeen here now a handful of times for myriad reasons and it literally has NEVER disappointed. The only competition the food has is to outshine the other menu items you decide to indulge in.
I was a small but surprised my runs were slightly overcooked, but even there taste was phenomenal. My father a longtime wine maker and connoisseur raves of there deep wine menu.
We had a great time - again and we can only hope we'll be back soon!!!
Food is fantastic and lots of choices . Service was awesome! They have a lot of wine selection per country and prices range from $112-25. Expensive wines doesn't necessarily mean good wine for you, it depends on your taste. You can get a $35 wine and still be enjoyable. We got Germany white for $27. and we enjoyed it.:)
The Haven was recommended for a special birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. The wine list was fabulous and the small plate menu was perfect. We enjoyed cheeses and champagne upon arrival and made a 2 hour event of it. We rarely do desserts but chose to Saturday night with a perfect cappuccino. The restaurant was worth the $$$$ but only for special occasions for us.
My daughter chose Haven for her birthday dinner because she likes the small plates concept and the menu appealed to her. The bison sausage, served with dijon mustard, was delicious, but be warned it is three half-dollar sized slices for $8.00. My small plate of snap peas was delicious. The himachi ceviche was basically large cubes of fish in a hot and spicy sauce, with a few pieces of avocado tossed about. It was disappointing. My husband and daughter tasted the fried okra dish and could not take another bite. The waiter, who provided outstanding service throughout our visit, took the okra off our bill without being asked, which was greatly apptreciated. I recommend the "bread service" for $4.00. It was a long loaf of fressh, hot french bread served with
herbed butter and dipping oil. The other server definitely needs practice pouring the oil and including enough herbs and spices, however; it turned out to be flavorless. We were there on a Friday night and the bar was very busy. There were several empty tables but it was still quite loud in the restaurant. Another negative is that the tables are wide and increase the difficulty of hearing your tablemates. We did not order alcohol and our bill for 3 people was $80 including the tip. We did not think it was a good value and the food would not draw us back for a second visit.
