Haven Ratings and Reviews
We had one of the best nights at Haven that we have had in a long time. We didn’t have dinner, we had an experience. LaMarl was outlet waiter and we could tell from the beginning that this isn’t a job for him but a career. His suggestions for the drinks were on point as well as the food. Everything That we had was cooked and prepared to perfection. We finished with the Sticky toffee pudding pared with a glass of Madeira wine. One of the best desserts I have had. Wonderful night with great friends. We will definitely be back!
Everything about Haven was incredible!! Lamar treated us incredibly well and gave amazing suggestions! We will definitely be back for many more dinners at Haven!
We tried a few vegetables and the cauliflower and spaghetti squash definitely changed our lives. This was an amazing dinner!
A delightful epicurean delight! New to the Tampa area from California and we were delighted to find Haven. The entire evening was outstanding! The food is as good as anywhere we have been to and we have been around...
you may find equal but not better... The food is exquisite... kudos to the Chef!
Lamarl was one of the best waiters we have come across... ask for him and your evening will be elevated to a new level and assured of a great dining experience. Greg will guide you through the wines with knowledge and passion... and the manager Hunter will be sure to see your experience is memorable.
Highly recommend Haven!!!
First visit to the restaurant and my husband and I doubled-dated with another couple. When we arrived they were able to seat us but we wanted to wait for a booth to open. The hostess was very sweet and kept us apprised status of a booth. While we waited, we started our first course at the bar. We noshed on the grilled octopus, raw oysters and mushroom dumplings. All very good except the oysters. If you are from up north these will be a disappointment.
For dinner we shared several dishes — all very good. The Brussels sprouts, Thai beef ribs and tempura fried snapper stand out. Great restaurant for a variety of occasions and I will definitely return.
Had reservations for a table at 9:00. Showed up early and checked in with hostess. Told us couldn’t seat us yet but we could wait at bar. Finally found space at bar. At around 9:25 went to hostess to ask about our table. Said there weren’t any available even though I counted at least three empty tables. Hostess said manger told her not to use those tables. What’s the point in making reservations. Left very disappointed.
Meh. It was allllright.
The cheese platter was impressive, but would have been more enjoyable with something other than breads that seemed both too toasted to be bread and not toasted enough to be toast. Also, some explanations or recommendations on the best way to approach that many cheeses would have been appreciated.
The cheesy bacon oysters were fine. The cheese and bacon tasted good. But made the oyster they were served atop uneccessary and superfluous.
The Malaysian beef ribs had great flavor cooked unevenly -some areas charred and inedible.
The service was attentive without being bothersome.
The wine and whiskey (reason for visit) lists are both impressive.
Atmosphere was open without being loud and the decor was fresh and inviting.
We loved our dinner of charcuterie and shared plates. Our server selected the cheeses and meats for us. Our small plates were halibut, steak au poivre, spaghetti squash, and chanterelle. Each dish was creative and delightfully delicious. Don't skip the bread because the butter is terrific. If you enjoy creative presentations and recipes, you should have a great dining experience. Bring along good friends to enhance your evening.
Comfortable, warm setting with acceptable noise level. Waiter was awesome. He actually asked questions when I ordered my wine and suggested an alternative based on my answers that was awesome! He was very knowledgeable about the ingredients in the dishes and the food was delicious. The selections were all small plates but serving sizes were definitely shareable and our favorites were the cauliflower and the spaghetti squash. I am looking forward to my next visit!
We are over the moon about Haven! It was our first anniversary and we were looking for a special place to go where neither of us had been before. A friend told us about it and we couldn’t have had a better experience. The ambiance was perfect, the food was divine, and I’m pretty sure that the only waiting service I’ve had that could compare to our waiter, David D, two nights ago was at Bern’s. David truly is a class-act and I can’t thank him enough for making our night that much better. He even made sure we were able to make it out on time for The Book of Mormon at The Straz. I will be recommending The Haven to everyone I can and I can’t wait to have another dining experience there! Bravo! -Tristan
P.S.- I hope David is working next time we come in.
We arranged for an early dinner, pre-concert. We enjoyed very reasonably priced happy hour drinks and received excellent recommendations from our waitress in selecting from the diverse cheese menu. We were afforded just the right amount of attention from our waitress and left with a wonderful memory for the birthday celebration of my wife, followed by Lady Gaga.
Grilled oysters had thick cheese on top that lifted off.. the worst. Tasted like they came out of frozen food section. Octopus tasted great but was cold when put in front of us. Had to send back to the kitchen to get it warmed. Steak tartare tasted like ground round. I never complain about food but this was sub standard and not cheap. Very disappointed.
Very interesting food combinations and complex flavors made every dish enjoyable. Friendly, informative service from our waitress was helpful. Menu format is for small plates, which allowed us to try many different items. Menu includes charcuterie options or a chef recommended plate. We dined on a Monday evening and our only regret is that when we left after our meal we saw a sign on the street promoting 50% off charcuterie on Mondays. Our waitress did not mention this special and the sign was facing the opposite direction from the parking lot, so we didn't see it on the way in.
Great fun place for a get together with friends- not a family dinner gathering kind of place. Food was ok, nothing to rave about. Had the fois gras tarchon, hog head cheese, pate grand mere, wild mushrooms dumplings, steak tartare, pomegranate lamb ribs. The waitress recommended the grilled octopus- not good. To soft, doughy-like taste. The only good thing was the lamb ribs. Didn't know it was small dishes (tappas-like). Not worth the money spent. Was looking for a family dinner-a little disappointed. My husband had some wine- literally 2 sips. We were looking at each other and was like "that's it?" the amount was like a tasting amount at other restaurants.
Haven was amazing! I was in Tampa for less than a week and went twice because it was so good. The chacuterie and cheese selection is out of this world. Definitely get the chicken liver pate and the house Hab's cheddar. The goat cheese fritter appetizer is also great. Awesome beer, wine, and drink menu as well. Can't recommend it highly enough.
What a great way to celebrate a birthday with a couple girlfriends. The ambiance and food selection was excellent and the customer service was beyond exceptional. I ordered an Aviation cocktail and it wasn't made correctly but still had a great taste. Before I even mentioned a word, the bartender already corrected the cocktail and took care of my drink order. The server was beyond informative and everyone was so attentive and courteous. Such a great gem to the South Howard area and I would recommend this venue to any couple or ladies night out! I will be returning without any hesitations.
Incredible service from Lamarl. Cheese selection was incredible but was, admittedly, underwhelmed with the food. The Mac and cheese is supposed to be a specialty and I thought it was OK at best. Nice flavor but lacked the hearty, rich cheesiness most like in a Mac and cheese. The pigeon was most disappointing....crazy small portion for the price. Flavor was good but the meat was tough. Had a great time and will be back....but with reservations (pun not intended).
We went specifically for the king crab dumpling, bone marrow and cold smoked ribeye. Haven had changed their menu but did not update their new menu on their website. It did not have any of the things we wanted to try. We spent over $200 on food and nothing was worth mentioning. Service was also bad. The waiter seemed like he did not want to wait on us. Would not recommend to any friends or family members.
