Havana Ratings and Reviews
Our meal was excellent!! The ingredients were very fresh. The items were unique. The drinks were unique and very good. We loved every part of our meal at Havana. We were there on a date but there were families there as well. There were plenty of options on the menu for everyone. We visit Chicago about once a year and we will definitely dine at Havana again.
Had a great time and the Cuban food is excellent; had the traditional Cuban sandwich, plantains, Guava cheesecake, Ropa Vieja and the Mojito pitcher special. Everything was awesome. Only issue was it's a bit loud if you're trying to have a nice, quiet conversation with a date, for business, etc. It was a Friday night though. Other than that it was perfect.
I highly recommend Havana to anyone visiting Chicago. We have been there multiple times and it is always top notch. The food is spectacular, the service is great and the staff is super friendly. A must do! We enjoyed the Carne Asada and Paella this time as well as some tostones and ceviche for apps. Havana has the best ceviche ever!
Only problem was the disappearing waiter. He got out drinks. Didn’t see him for 30 mins. I mean did not see him anywhere. Happened several times during the night. Food was excellent, everything else was excellent. The small irritant of the waiter taking so long between visits did not in any way feminist the overall experience. If you want great Cuban good this is the place to go.
The food was SO delicious and the service was great!
My only 'negative' thought was that there should be some fabric (curtains, drapery, tablecloths, anything) to help absorb noise. It was so loud in there and it made talking to my sister (sitting across the table from me) a little difficult...and we're only in our 20s.
My wife and I were in Chicago for a few days and were looking for a unique dining experience. I would say we found it! Excellent food, excellent service, and excellent experience. The $20 pitcher of mojito certainly helped. But in all seriousness, we would go back. Antonio was an excellent server and we hope to return.
The Cuban and Latin food menu options were a refreshing option for downtown Chicago. Lively atmosphere and authentic wait staff added to the experience. Ambient noise and bad acoustics in building made it difficult to hold easy conversations across the table.
Food was good, but not great. Salsa and fresh guacamole were a good starter. Plantains were delicious. Sangria and mojitos were very good. Everything else we had sounded better than it tasted.
Would have loved to been able to hear the live Latin music, but it did not start until 11:00. It would have taken more than one pitcher of sangria to make it from 7:00 dinner. Should have just came for drinks and dancing, instead of dinner.
This was our second time here. Loved it the first time, but totally unimpressed this go-around. First appetizer was bland, other was overly salty. Entree decent but not mind-blowing. Tequila flight was just three shots of tequila on a napkin, which I guess is essentially what a flight is but I've never seen one served so shoddily. Won't be coming back.
Excellent food well done in Cuban traditions. Music through out including outside. Service was excellent. The only recommendations would is to have hostess dress as she works there I thought she walked off street to seat us. Overall I would come back again.
Haven't been here is a couple of years. Seems to have lost it's luster. The menu has become more Mexican, seems like fewer Cuban choices. The food we had was okay - the drinks were fine. No need to check this out with all of the newer choices in the neighborhood and along the river.
Food was delicious. Great guacamole and corn tortilla chips. Tostones were nicely lightly fried seviced with flavorful dipping sauces. The entree portions were a good size not skimpy or overwhelming. The ropa viejo was excellent. The steak Cubano was outstanding and accompanied by a mix of fried yucca and sweet plantains. Can't wait to go b
We have have been coming here for years, the food is great and daily drink specials are the best value in river north. It a bit noisy on the weekends and the music in the restaurant is quite loud so if you are looking for a quite romantic place to talk, maybe not here but we talk loud so that never bothers us.
Cuban music gave Havana a great vibe.
The menu has something for everyone - eat light? salad with grilled seafood, Cuban ? the pulled pork dinner, and much more. Loved the plantain crusted halibut with mildly spicy jalapeno cream sauce!
We arrived early and had the place to ourselves but not for long - an hour later the restaurant was full. Waiter was patient with our questions and knowledgeable as he shared the details of each dish.
Mojitos were refreshing on a hot summer day.
