Havana 1957 - Espanola Way Ratings and Reviews
We came to Havana 1957 for a birthday dinner. Our server Romel was amazing. He came to our table often to make sure we did not need anything. Every time we thought of something we needed or wanted he was right there. The Havana Cosmo and cheesecake are my favorite. Will definaly stop here for dinner Every time I am in Miami.
Visited for lunch during a conference in a hotel nearby. My husband enjoyed his Vaca Frita, and I found the House special Pollo al Horno, classic Cuban garlic chicken. The accompaniment of rice and black beans were well made; we would have liked more sweet plantain. The guava lemonade was refreshing. Our only qualm was the very small table for two, and the music and noise level too loud. The service was friendly and prompt. We would go back.
I will make my one and only negative comment first, that way I can continue with all the positives. We had reservations for 7:30pm and arrived at 7:33. It had just started raining prior to our arrival and this place has outside seating. Plus, it was packed. Our table was not ready because they had moved some of the people that were seated outside due to the rain. When we inquired about our table, they told us that we would have to wait about 20 min or that we could walk to another location if we wanted to be seated right away. I’m not really sure if the hostess realized that she had just suggested that we walked under the rain to their other location. Needless to say, we decided to wait although I always expect that when I make a reservation 7 hrs in advance, my table should be ready. Eventually we were seated and everything to that point was quickly forgotten. The food was simply amazing!!! This place truly is a Cuban Gem. Their mojitos were outstanding!!! Our entrees were delicious, perfectly seasoned, and I have to admit that it was a lot of food for the money. They even gave us dessert on the house. The seating issue was a minor inconvenience that was quickly made up for with their excellent service and food. We will definitely be back again!
Main problem is an inaccurate menu, and not authentic Cuban.
I ordered the Pork chops (Chuleta de Puerco) and instead they bring me a ham steak.
I told the waiter I wanted the pork chop not ham and he said that was their Chuleta. Sux. Too bad.
If at least the menu would have said it was ham, I would have known not to order it.
My daughter ordered Vaca Frita - I have never seen a Vaca Frita like that before. Instead of shredded beef it was like a steak.
The best spot for Cuban food and live the real Cuba. Good music, good ambience. Service is excellent . The manager and our server were all the time checking around the table. I will comeback soon and will request Romel to be our server again, you can't go wrong with him. Very knowledgeable and attentive .
Overall awesome experience. Location was great had such an awesome atmosphere. Best part was the classic and coconut mojitos! They are to die for! So good! Food was excellent as well. We had the Cuban platter which consisted of chicken, beef and pork. So good!
I was told I HAD to visit this historic spot for the best Cuban in Miami. I was told wrong. The food was just okay, the service was awful and the tables were crammed in the restaurant like sardines. I've had better Cuban food in Atlanta.
I am Cuban and grew up with my mom's great cooking . If you want cuban home cooking this is the place to eat!!
I loved it! We were on vacation from New Jersey.
We discovered it too late . We only ate there 2 nights. If we would have discovered it before we would have dined there every night!
I've always loved the Versailles restaurant in Miami 's palomilla steak but this one is even better!!! I never thought I'd ever say this!!
If you like steak you'll love their palomilla steak' best it with fries!!!!
We really enjoyed this place as an example of traditional Cuban fare. We started with wonderful Cuban Libres at our outdoor table, right in the middle of all the action. It was a great locale for people-watching, and Miami offers unlimited people-watching. We have the best waiter ever and service was fast and fantastic. Food was delicioso! We would take friends back there in a heartbeat.
Well...the first thing I noticed were the prices. They were so high I lost my appetite. You can get the same quality food, better comfort, friendlier staff and More food from La Carreta.
I was disturbed by how much they were charging for their food, that I ate a sandwich. Which was still $11.
The Coconut Mojito wasn't any good.
The seats were so close together you kept bumping into other patrons.
Yes, I get it, I'm eating on the beach. But at least make it more comfortable. We chose to sit inside because it was "air conditioned" inside. But it wasn't working at all. It ended up being cooler outside.
I would not eat there again.
Eat somewhere else.
I had reservations about going here as it is a chain and has a rather kitschy-touristy vibe. However, the positive online reviews and zagat rating swayed me. I was disappointed. The service was slow and the food was exceedingly average. We were literally on the corner of an intersection so there were groups of pedestrians next to us the whole night. The cocktails were very good, but pricey. Overall, the experience was just not worth the price.
Food was great. Had the taster sampler everything was great tasting minus the tamale which was lacking flavor. Surprisingly a great restaurant off of a touristy spot. Expensive for Cuban food. Service is sub par. But makes you feel like you're in Havana if you sit inside
We have been to 1957 several times over the past few months. Each time the service has been attentive and decent. This time the waitress was distracted by chatting/flirting with the manager on duty and not taking care of her customers. We had to ask to place our drink order, ask to take our meal order, asked for more water and finally we had to ask for desert and our check.
We were dining outside, a large gust of wind came along and knocked over a glass of water on the table. She stopped by to drop off some napkins and went to clean off an empty table before assisting with water on our table and soaking through our clothes.
The good is good, but not excellent - we go for a casual bite and people watch in Miami Beach. The bill is always about $100 for two with one drink each - a little pricey but okay due to the location.
There is a lot of competition in Miami Beach for my dining dollars, we will go one more time, but if the service is not better - we will move along to another restaurant.
