Hau Tree Lanai Ratings and Reviews
It's always a challenge to find oceanfront dining on Oahu and we were very happy to discover this tucked-away location for Thanksgiving dinner. Cocktails were very good and food presentation was very nice. Service was top notch and everyone was very friendly. Since this was our first time at the Hau Tree Lanai, we can't comment too much on the different dining options. We plan to return for their famous eggs benedict!
Parking was convenient. Had to wait in “WithReservation” line versus “Walk in Line”. Walk-ins were seated first! Given poor seating against the wall with limited view and by service station. I had to request a better seat twice, then had to wait another 10 minutes for a better seat. Food service was slow although food server tried to be pleasant. Perhaps these people are over-worked. Menu was limited and choices were not fresh, not health-focused. Too much sauce on linguine. Sauce was plentiful but not good quality. I meet friends for lunch here on a regular basis. I knew the restaurant was not noted for its food, but rather for the Oceanside view and under the Hau tree ambiance. However both four and Service seemed diminished since My last visit. My guest was irritated by the poor service and food quality, but we made the best of it.
The view is amazing. The sweetest beach with tables facing the ocean. The service is great. If they see something wrong they will fix it right away. If you have a request they are on top of it. We love this place for breakfast and just absorb the Aloha feeling and you leave feeling great!
We've loved the Hau Tree Lanai in the past, especially for the view and sunset. Our family had dinner at the restaurant over the weekend. Unfortunately, the public beach in front of the restaurant has become quite crowded with huge groups of people taking photos on the beach of the sunset and blocking the view of the sunset from the restaurant. Also, there is a group of "fire dancers" right in front of the restaurant on the beach who are extremely annoying (they should keep their dangerous fire dancing routine to Burning Man and not on a public beach!). We understand that it's a public beach, but the fire dancers need to stay away from the beautiful monk seal that has found the same beach as her home. Also, the Hau Tree needs to bring back their chicken dish. They only currently offer a skewered chicken dish that 's so tough it can't be removed from the skewer and it had to be sent back. All in all, we still love this restaurant and will return.
