Hau Tree Lanai Ratings and Reviews
We've loved the Hau Tree Lanai in the past, especially for the view and sunset. Our family had dinner at the restaurant over the weekend. Unfortunately, the public beach in front of the restaurant has become quite crowded with huge groups of people taking photos on the beach of the sunset and blocking the view of the sunset from the restaurant. Also, there is a group of "fire dancers" right in front of the restaurant on the beach who are extremely annoying (they should keep their dangerous fire dancing routine to Burning Man and not on a public beach!). We understand that it's a public beach, but the fire dancers need to stay away from the beautiful monk seal that has found the same beach as her home. Also, the Hau Tree needs to bring back their chicken dish. They only currently offer a skewered chicken dish that 's so tough it can't be removed from the skewer and it had to be sent back. All in all, we still love this restaurant and will return.
The Hau Tree Lanai is a very enjoyable dining experience. The food is excellent. The menu has something for everyone's appetite. The appetizers are outstanding. Great cocktails. Beautiful view of the ocean and of Honolulu. A top choice for people who love food!
I was disappointed with the service, we were seated by the host but did not get any wait help for a very long time - at least 20 minutes before a waiter came by and dropped off the menus. It appears there were short-handed that night which is really not my problem.
I ordered the shrimp pasta dish, the pasta was over done and mushy. The sauce on the pasta was overly heavy and lacked taste. I needed to add salt and pepper. I didn't finish the dish, took it home and tossed it. I didn't want my guest to know that I didn't like it at all or I had the waiter wrap it up
It was a perfect evening dinner preceding the concert at the Shell...the staff worked so hard making sure we were 'on time' to walk across Kapiolani Park to the shell...any yet relaxed. The Makaweli beef entree and the Lamb Chops were divine...so moist and tender. They also make a pretty good martini... Aloha.
We also had a late breakfast there...and I took this picture from my room before we went downstairs to dine. Great breakfasts too.
One of the best meals I have enjoyed in a very, very long time. The presentation, flavours and freshness of ingredients were without equal. We sat down late to dinner but at no point did the servers ever make us feel rushed. Our server made suggestions and he was wonderfully spot on with each. No food snobbishness from this establishment, our servers suggested several tweeks to our plates after a chatting to us about our preferences and once again he was spot on. Even thought it was a business meal everyone had to have a taste off each others plates because of the excellence of each plate. All the members in our party could not stop raving about their meal.
This great find was recommended and I would recommend Hau Tree Lanai again and again. A wonderful quiet setting on the ocean with unequaled food. Spoil yourself.
Appetizer took 45 minutes to be delivered; entree 15 minutes later. Before appetizer delivered waitress came by and said the appetizer would be delivered shortly, as this was normal time. I told her about the 45 minute time. I also gave her zero tip and wrote on the receipt about the 45 minute delay. I also told the receptionist about the 45 minute delay and my displeasure. This occurred while the next table had their drinks, appetizer , and entree before we had our appetizer. Not happy about the poor service.
As always a wonderful experience in the true kama'aina style. Relaxed and gracious in this day and age is no mean feat! Truly delicious food served with aloha. Mahalo for your continued service to all those who enjoy your beautiful restaurant. Simply the best.
We celebrated our friends' wedding vow renewals here with a party of eight and they were able to seat us overlooking the beach. The atmosphere at Hau Tree Lanai was truly filled with Aloha. The food was top notch and the employees were very attentive. Highly recommend Hau Tree Lanai to any visitor wanting to experience Hawaii dining.
We celebrated our 20yr anniversary here for dinner. We are from Australia, and i booked online before we even arrived in Hawaii, as i wanted something really special and on the beach where we could watch the sunset. From the moment we arrived (half an hour early) and went to the bar, we received exceptional service. We were given a beachfront table as we requested and then watched the stunning changing view as the sun went down. The wait staff very very attentive, but not intrusive. And the food was amazing! Especially the duck and the portugese bean soup. Every course was great! And even though we were very full, we were given a complimentary dessert for our special occasion which was also amazing! Highly recommended.
