Small Husband and wife restaurant where the service can be really slow during busy times (they warn you ahead of time) but really authentic and tasty Japanese food. One of the best in the SouthBay. The specials are always great and everything I have tried there is very tasty. If you have the patience give it a try

Family owned restaurant. Great authentic Japanese food. Expect some wait and potential service hiccups, but you will soon forget with the quality of the food.

WORST SERVICE EVER! Arrived at 7:45pm on a Saturday, nobody at reception. Restaurant wasn’t even half full. Eventually got checked in - they don’t have a computer or iPad upfront like most restaurants, so they took note of name and OpenTable reservation. We were brought to our table and given the menu by 7:50pm, then a few minutes later offered something to drink. The server came back with our drinks (tea and water) quickly. We waited for her to come back to take our food order, but she was just delivering food & drinks not taking orders. Eventually got her attention again to try to order food, but she said she doesn’t take orders and she “told the lady” we were ready to order. We waited, and waited and waited for “the lady” to come take our order. We gave up waiting for anyone to take our order at 8:30pm, got up, left and went somewhere else. I have NEVER left a restaurant for bad service before - at least most places will take your order but the kitchen is the backlog. I don’t know what is going on at Hatcho, but this was the WORST SERVICE EVER.

Hatcho was again a great choice. Linda our host was all smiles and took really good care of us. We both took the hatcho dinner selection with this amazing cod and sashimi assortment. Lucky enough the New Years sake was still available and we could enjoy it!

I always enjoy its heart warming Japanese food here.
Hatcho is casual and it is like eating at home.
Not too expensive and food is good.

When I like to have a Japanese food, I come here.

Really good food but the long duration of the dining experience caused it not to be completely worth it. Linda seats the customers, takes the orders and prepares the sushi. In addition to her, there is one other person in the front. Curious business practices.

Hatcho offers the best Japanese cuisine in the South Bay Area. Tucked away in a small mall and without pretense, the focus is 100% on the very best authentic Japanese cuisine experience. We frequently have business guests from Japan and when I take them to Hatcho, there never is any disappointment. Obviously, not cheap, but top quality comes at a price. Good value if you appreciate top-quality sushi and sashimi.

Hatcho is a great place if you want real Japanese food! All the selections are excellent and well prepared by the host/owners. A nice variety of food that you don't find in the standard Japanese restaurants in the south bay. Because the host/owners are also the chefs service can be kind of slow and a meal may run you some time and money but if you are patient it is worth it.

The uni looked and tasted a bit off, but was assured that it was naturally slightly bitter since it was from Monterey. Other than that, the food was good, everyone was friendly and accommodating. Had a great experience otherwise!

My wife and I like Hatcho a lot, it is an authentic Japanese restaurant, very cozy and Linda is very nice and welcoming. I enjoyed Yaki udon, Agedashi Tofu, and many other dishes, I also like the tatami room. It is a great place for dinner near Santa Clara University!

We brought my son and a few friends from SCU and it was embarrassing how bad it was. Food was just OK. It took 30+ minutes to get our bill. The waitress and hostess yelling at each other about the bill and we didn't get the bill until we got up to leave.

Hatcho is ultimately one of better Japanese food experiences in the Bay Area with its authentic Japanese cuisine. The owners are a beautifully spirited couple. The husband is the chef de cuisine and his wife the welcoming committee. Her one person waiting staff of over 25 years completes the Hatcho experience. Expect to wait to be seated and the serving of the food. But it's worth the wait believe me. Go to Hatcho !!!

I was very disappointed after a great start to our meal which had a friendly welcome by the host and our order of sake and 3 appetizers. The food came out rather quick, within less than 15 minutes which was great. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived but was filling up quickly. We gave our waitress a sushi order which we filled in at the table and ended up waiting for almost an hour to get it. By then you could see many customer trying to get their checks, get seated and place orders. I was ready to just forget the sushi but decided to wait. It was obvious they were short staffed but it was disappointing to also see some mistakes on the bill and real trouble with them processing chip based newer credit cards. I loved the food but it was a painful dining experience.

This is basically a Mom and Pop shop. That said, it took quite some time (30-40 min.) for our food to arrive (our party of 5 ordered different combinations dishes).
HOWEVER it was really well-worth the wait when it came! So, if you plan on going, prepare to sit back and relax if the food arrival takes a little bit longer than usual. You'll be glad you did!
I will definitely return.

I've been here twice now. On both occasions we took the approach of ordering numerous appetizers from the sizable app portion of the menu and going at it family style. The dishes are all very tasty and appropriately priced. The only negative I can give is that on both nights the service started out as what you'd expect but quickly slowed and never improved. I like the food but when we're left waiting so long for food or to get any attention at all, it still leaves an impression. Go with extra time, and order a pitcher of beer so you can socialize for a while.

It was fun to watch the food come out to our table and other tables. Each dish was beautifully presented. The fish (we are sushi and sashimi fans) was delicious and fresh. I think the service was having a bit of a challenging night. It took a long time to get someone to take our order, and food for our table of three didn't all come together. I had the impression from things we were told that this was not a typical evening.

We made reservations for 8 and had our own private room, which was nice. My daughters loved the food and the service was great, and the girls are hard to please. This is more authentic Japanese than just a sushi place, so do a little research before you get there so you're not just studying the menu

Sushi rolls were tasty but much smaller than what we usually receive. So, we ordered more. As we were leaving, a lady behind the sushi counter complained because my son, an 18 year old cross country runner, ate so much. You would think she would have been happy because we spent more money.
