Harwigs Ratings and Reviews
We were called 45 minutes prior to the reservation and a message was left that reservations would be cancelled if not confirmed within the hour. If you are going to do that you should call the day before and ask for confirmation, not 45 minutes before when people are out on New Years Eve. Average all the way around. Disappointing for a 1000.00 tab.....
Always an amazing meal! Took the family (teens) for my birthday dinner. My picky eater found angus sliders on the happy hour menu, and we went with the filet, lamb chop, and cobia entrees. All were cooked perfectly and creatively plated. Servers were super attentive. Wine recommendations were spot on and I recommend the creme brûlée. All around, such a wonderful dining experience!
Service was great and presentation was inviting but that’s where the good feelings stopped. We ordered the Rabbit, Lamb and Duck. Frankly we were disappointed in the quality of the meal and the manner prepared. There was a general lack of flavor and the consistency was not acceptable. Lamb was tough and lacking flavor. The Brussel sprouts were difficult to cut with a knife. The rabbit was dry as the Sahara Dessert. Staff was great so the problem appears to be in the kitchen. I would avoid this place.
We had a wonderful meal at Harwigs. The steak was one of the best we have had, the service was exceptional, and everything we ate was delicious. We really enjoyed the hospitality and atmosphere. Harwigs really made my husband’s birthday special, we will definitely be back!
Had a great dinner. Noah, the waiter, took great care of us. The sommelier was very informative and helpful with finding a special bottle of wine to go with our dinner. We were thrilled to get a special tour of their wine cellar and special dining room in the wine cellar. Very special evening!
Appetizers were okay. Pate de foie had no foie gras that we could taste. The gnocchi app was one of the best food items we had all evening. My duck breast was very sinewy and chewy. The kimchi accompanying it was not a good pairing. Lamb entree was good, but there were only two chops. The corn risotto side with the lamb was THE best part of the meal...they should serve that with everything!
Pretentious. Salad was awesome, grilled farmers cheese, heirloom tomatoes, truly excellent. Huge, but very high priced wine list. We had an $84 Chablis that disappointed for the price. We would have been happier with a $40 Chardonnay if that had been available. Very friendly and helpful wait staff. Comfortable and quiet, but very high priced. We will try another restaurant next time we are in Steamboat.
Harwig's is always a delight. Attention to detail, excellent customer service, tasteful and eye-appealing presentations, and the ambiance create a lovely dining experience. As soon as I reserved my table online, a representative from the host staff called to confirm and let me know about options. Much appreciated. I would recommend as a solid local's favorite for any special dining-out evening as one of Steamboat Springs, Colorado's tried and true classics.
Pad Thai was lackluster, minimal sauce or protein, noodles large and too firm. The Jungle Curry was better. The dessert ( tequila cake with lemon " mousse"had a nice presentation, but the peach jalapeño jelly served with it was a firm gelatin cube and the amount served for price $10 was very small. There is much better Thai food elsewhere in town.
This was our 3rd time to Harwigs and we went for Thai Night. While the prices were reasonable, i thought the authenticity of the Thai food was mediocre at best. My Pad Thai noodles were well under cooked, and both chicken dishes were mediocre. The apps were better but very limited choices. I realize Harwigs is known for fine dining, but if you are going to have a Thai night you could have a fair amount more items in both the apps and mains to choose from as so much Thai food bases are prepared with similar sauces. We wont go back for Thai night but will for fine dining.
We moved away from Steamboat 2 years ago after 33 years there; Harwigs has always been a solid choice, consistently one of the best restaurants in SBS. Two of us had the lamb entrée and only negative comment was that the lamb had more fat on it and a ridge of gristle down its middle that made eating the chops a challenge. But a lovely experience oveall.
Our evening started off very well, waiter was friendly and attentive...we (2 couples) ordered cocktails, apps, and then dinner. Cocktails arrived promptly, then bread service, then our apps, which seemed a little odd. I think the bread should have come with the 1st course. Anyway, we ordered dinner after eating the apps; the 1st course (2 french onion soups and 1 salad) came out in a reasonable amount of time, but we waited, and waited, and waited for our entrees...which consisted of 2 Halibut dinners, 1 Heirloom Salad and a Lobster Torchon (an appetizer). Someone in our group spoke to our waiter, who was chatting at another table, but it was still another 10 minutes until our entrees arrived; I'd say we WAITED 30+ MINUTES FOR OUR ENTREES!! The restaurant was NOT CROWDED and we were not in a hurry, but WE DEFINITELY FELT IGNORED after we ordered dinner; no one stopped by our table, apologized for the wait or even acknowledged it. We are all locals and I recommended dining here since my husband and I have enjoyed Harwigs in the past. Our friends hadn't eaten here in years and were excited to try it again but, after this experience, I doubt any of us will be eating here again anytime soon.
We are not locals, but we are in town each year for my birthday and have friends from AK join us who also have a family member with a similar birthday. Harwigs is our restaurant of choice for this very special occasion. It is cozy; the service is phenomenal; the food spectacular. One of the top points is their wine list and sommelier. We tell him what we have ordered, give him a price range, and let him make the choice. He has NEVER steered us wrong. Be aware it is not an inexpensive meal, but well worth each and every penny!!!
