The food was good but not amazing. The risotto with squash was disappointing; the squash needed another 1 minute of cooking to have a texture that blended well with the rice. Wine suggestion was excellent, best part of meal. A Honig cabernet. Yum.
Terrible experience. Would rate it less than a 1 star if I could. Service was awful. Very rude manager/bartender Food was not worth the price. There has to be better restaurants in Madison than this place. Would not come back here anytime soon or ever. Extremely disappointed. And that is an understatement.
Never disappointed when I eat at Harvest!
Food and service could not have been better! We loved that we could actually converse.
Another Visit - Another Great Experience at Harvest
My wife and I enjoyed another great dinner at Harvest. We have never had an unsatisfactory meal or experience at Harvest. The service is great and the chef uses local and organic ingredients to deliver quality great tasting food, with a menu reflecting the current available greens, etc. My wife had the scallop "small plate" (again!) and was very impressed ... and she knows scallops ... having them often when we dine out. We both enjoyed very tasty salads - hers was the roasted & pickled beet salad and I had the mixed greens. My main course was the Grilled Beef Hanger Steak with sun choke puree and seared kale. The entree protein is often paired with a sauce or puree that may sound a little odd together, but it has always been good ... so be bold and have a new experience! I have tried a few of them myself at home - without the same success! There is also a very nice wine list. Matt's service was top notch. We will be back, and hope the weather remains warm enough soon so we can eat outside. The people watching is a special plus!
Good - entrees, risotto and carrot ginger soup.
Not good - bare bones fresh greens salad
Bad - desert. The trifle and lemon cake were dry, tasted like a cornbread muffin
Amazing!!! So glad we found this gem for a special celebration dinner ...honestly we are still talking about the perfect food and service. Not a bad choice on the menu, fresh sourced and made with love, you can just tell. Great ambiance too. Highly recommend!!!!
Oor server was knowledgeable. His menu suggestions pointed us to the tastiest dishes.
Always the best in Madison. Consistently delicious. Great atmosphere best drinks in town.
Another great meal. Exceptional service this time.
Food was decent but small portions and service was very slow.
My wife and I dined at Harvest after not having been there for a year or so and we found it to be just as good as we remembered. My wife had the Potato Cavatelli which she enjoyed very much. I decided to have the Pan Roasted Lake Superior Whitefish which was a great choice as well. We found a nice bottle of French White Burgundy on the wine list that complimented the meals very nicely. Our server was very knowledgeable and provided great service. We enjoyed our meals and evening very much and will definitely return.
We always have a great meal at Harvest. The blends of flavors and textures is well done. Wish the would bring back the market board. It was always a treat and a little different each time
Harvest is a restaurant I like to go to when I’m in Madison. The fish was really terrific and the condiments really make the food flavorable. And the service was exceptional. It’s also a quiet atmosphere so we could have a really good conversation.
Everything was fantastic. Excellent quality and creative cuisine.
Food and service was great. However, pretty pricey for small dishes.
Excellent and knowledgeable service, a wonderful experience!
Short and simple, this place is absolutely amazing. The service was top-notch, the ambience was exactly what you would like in an upscale restaurant downtown. The food… Oh my goodness the food was so incredible. The risotto literally melted in your mouth. The scallops were like none we had ever had before and we’re perfectly cooked. Our main courses were such an eclectic mix of amazing flavors that we just did not want the meal to end. You have got to go to this restaurant if you want to have an amazing foodie experience.
Harvest has fantastic food and superb service. It is quiet enough that one can actually have a conversation without yelling. Good view of the Capitol.
The maître d’ was short with me and rude regarding my reservation. It was early evening and we wouldn’t have needed reservations through OpenTable but I used it anyway.
Our server was thoughtful and did a good job accommodating my friend who is allergic to garlic. I have dined at Harvest several times before and it was exceptional. Today seem to be an off day and also we were dining early, around 6 PM. Maybe it was an off day for them. I had the whitefish and it was good. My friend’s salmon was overcooked.
The seasonal menu always has great, local ingredients. Highly tasty - and highly recommended.
The service, food, and wine were great. Would definitely go back!
Excellent find in the heart of the Capitol (Madison)! Quite the gem-- food is delicious and well-presented. Although this was for dinner while away on business-- I would gladly spend my own money here. Focused menu but enough variety for all tastes. Excellent for vegetarians as well (2 of our party of 4) which is kinda hard to accommodate sometimes! We had quite the assortment at the table to try a lot of things so it's quite easy: just go here. Both craft cocktails and the classics are extremely reasonable-- and they have Grey Goose Citron and many other top shelf brands (I hate when restaurants cave to Absolute). Only negative is that the bottles of wine are pricey for what they are-- most of the decent stuff starts at $66 (and with entrees in the 20's/low 30's its a bit out of whack). I suggest they get a few Cremant d'Alsace selections on the menu to get the mark-up they need but fit better in a bit of a budget.
Since our last dining experience at Harvest we were looking forward to dining here again. We were quickly greeted and seated. I had a queasy stomach from all day travel and when I asked for a ginger ale to calm my stomach the bartender that greeted us said that he would get me something to help. He poured a small glass of an aperitif for me to sip. It was like a miracle because within a few minutes I felt great. Mu husband ordered the chicken and ate every bite. I was a bit leery to eat anything so I had the appetizer risotto with squash. Delicious but the risotto could have cooked just a bit longer. The wine list is extensive and offers half bottles which is great. Overall the experience was delightful.
Everything was great.
The food was great but the portions were tiny, you have to at least order three items to feel satisfied. The duck confit special was so small with maybe one ounce of duck and the rest cornbread pancakes and for $30 that was a ripoff.
Awesome experience. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and dishes. We asked for suggestions, took him up on several and were not disappointed. Menu items were very good and the Duck special was extremely good for those that ordered. For farm to table and the high degree of preparation I found it to be very reasonable especially when comparing to other restaurants which claim the same space. Harvest is right on the capital square giving a nice view of the capital building and all the activity. Great place, not as loud as other places around the square. Will go again.
Harvest’s reputation is based on presenting farm fresh ingredients in creative ways. On this visit we found the menu to be pretty standard—nothing out of the ordinary or pushing the culinary envelope. The food was fresh and well-prepared but nothing out of the ordinary for this level of restaurant. Overall we had OK food served professionally in a pleasant setting.
WE had a great meal. We were with a larger group, and the staff was able to accommodate our last minute request to add two more to our group.
I am so glad I got to visit this restaurant. Great wines, delicious food and friendly staff. I will go back every time I am in Madison.
My wife said it was the best meal of her life. Our waiter was awesome and we can’t wait to return.
Our server was fantastic. Food was excellent. Even our kids liked their food. Highly recommend
Food is rather bland. Atmosphere is nice. Wait staff if great.
The place was busy and we had reservation. We were sat within a minute of when we got there. Everyone was friendly and service was awesome. Food was awesome. The sizes we a little small but overall amazing restaurant.
First Valentine's Day dinner together!
Everything was perfect!
One word. Fabulous! From Max our knowledgeable and efficient waiter, to the creative and perfectly cooked food, Harvest is a great dining experience. This was our third time there and all aspects of the restaurant have been consistently excellent. Be prepared to pay more than many others but it is worth it.
The food here is incredible and her staff go the extra mile for their customers. I highly recommend this restaurant, and would especially suggest that you come in for one of their special multi-course dinners with wine pairings. So fun and good!
